The settings are starting to update the switches.
Settings is starting to update the MD3 switches.
The switches we see now are essentially an early version of them. Google introduced the new Material Design 3 Switches in the alpha channel a year ago, which then became stable closer to mid-autumn. So far, Google hasn't been in as much of a hurry to implement them in its apps, but we're already seeing the first steps in the Android Settings app.
So far, the new toggles can be found on the permission request page, "App info" and 'App notifications' settings. Most likely it's all part of the refactoring of the settings app, codenamed 'SPA'.

Fast Pair settings are back.
This page first appeared in Android 13 Developer Preview 2, and then disappeared in beta 3. It hasn't undergone any changes since then.
For now Fast Pair is a part of Google Play Services, but a year ago Google started working on its implementation in AOSP by making this function a Mainline module (updatable via Google Play system updates).

What the predictive back gesture inside apps looks like.
Starting with Android 14, the predictive back gesture will be able to show a preview of the screen where you will go when you complete the gesture. This means you'll know if you'll get to the home screen, the previous page in the app, or even another app.
For now, this behavior is disabled by default and you won't be able to test it just by installing Developer Preview 1.

Changes in Battery Usage statistics and settings.
Battery Usage:
• Returned a separate indicator of screen time since the last full charge of the device.
• It is now possible to 'breakdown' the usage by apps and by system components. Earlier they were just sorted under each other.
Battery saver settings:
• You can now select the default power saving mode. That is, you no longer need to open the settings page to activate emergency power saving.
• Also, there is a 'Adaptive battery' switch, which was moved from the Adaptive Preferences page.
• The schedule item has been renamed "Schedule and reminder." The usage-based option is gone. The lower threshold for automatic turn on has been raised from 10 to 20%. There is a new "Battery Saver Reminders" switch.

Google plans to allow clone apps.
Right now, Android doesn't have built-in support for app cloning (OEMs don't count), but that could change with the release of Android 14. Google is testing a new "Cloned apps" feature that will allow you to "create a second instance of the app so you can use two accounts at the same time." This feature will be available under Settings > Apps > Cloned apps.
For now, the feature is not available by default. Moreover, it is not yet complete, as the system does not currently provide any distinctive icons to display in the launcher, so the original and the duplicate can easily be confused.
Also, the list of apps whose duplicates can be created is limited for some reason.

Health Connect is now built into the system.
The first developer build comes with a new APEX file, which has the package name com.[google].android.healthconnect. That is, it is now a module updated via Google Play system updates.
The name of the package is in brackets for a reason, as the system version coexists next to the version from Google Play. At one point, Google will simply move the data to the system version.
Right now, however, apps are checking for the Google Play version. That is, to use the system version, you have to make changes to the apps. Google will probably just update the Health Connect support library so that developers don't have to figure out what version of the app is installed.

Android 14 adds a new feature called "Advanced Memory Protection" in beta.
It "helps you protect your device from bugs that may put your security at risk". Under the hood, this feature includes the Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) on Arm v8.5+ compatible devices. MTE is a mandatory hardware feature on Arm v9 processors that protects against memory safety bugs by providing detailed information about memory violations.
It's worth noting the Tensor G2 chipset in the Google Pixel 7 uses Arm v8.2 processor cores, so it do not supports MTE. It looks like the Google Pixel 8 will use the new Arm v9 processor cores.

Quite interestingly, Google is working on adding gestures to navigate the system using the Touchpad. So, technically having a keyboard with a trackpad, the upcoming Pixel Tablet combined with a stylus could be a pretty good workstation.
