Opossums do not consciously play dead. They enter a behavior called thanatosis when threatened. It is an involuntary response to extreme stress. During thanatosis, opossums become limp, slow their breathing, and remain motionless. Their eyes may stay open, and they can release a foul smell. This state can last from a few minutes to several hours. Opossums cannot end thanatosis at will. It is triggered automatically by fear or danger from predators. Scientists describe it as a defensive survival behavior. It is not fainting although it looks a bit similar.

Many lipsticks and cosmetics use โ€œpearl essence,โ€ a shiny ingredient made from fish scales. The shine comes from guanine crystals found in herring scales. Synthetic versions exist, but natural pearl essence is still commonly used in cosmetics.

The Little Albert experiment was a psychology study conducted in 1920 by John B. Watson and Rosalie Rayner at Johns Hopkins University. The study involved an infant known as โ€œLittle Albert,โ€ whose real identity has not been confirmed, although some guesses have been made. The research focused on conditioned fear responses, where a child was exposed to a white rat and a loud noise to study learned fear.

The video may be shocking to some viewers, but as it is factual history we added it. View at your own discretion.

The Southern Ocean surrounds Antarctica and is considered the fourth-largest ocean on Earth (out of five). It is defined by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, which flows around the continent. It has very cold waters and strong winds and supports wildlife such as krill, seals, penguins, and whales.

The Titanic Memorial in Washington, D.C., honors the men who gave up lifeboats for women and children during the 1912 sinking. Of the 531 women and children on board, 70% were rescued, compared to only 20% of the men. Women led the fundraising and design efforts. The memorial was unveiled in 1931 and moved in 1968 to its current location near Fort McNair.

Many people feel tired and miserable on Mondays because their sleep schedule often changes on the weekend.

This change is called social jet lag. It affects the bodyโ€™s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep and alertness. Hormones like cortisol and melatonin control when the body feels awake or sleepy. On weekends, sleep and wake times often differ from weekdays, which shifts these rhythms and affects how people feel at the start of the week.

Women's parking spaces were originally introduced in 1990 in Germany to improve women's safety and reduce the risk of sexual assault.
After Germany, places like South Korea and China also adopted this policy. It soon became a law in some regions of Germany that at least 30% of parking spots must be reserved for women.

Researchers have reported a phenomenon called the โ€œreturning soldier effect.โ€ Studies found that the ratio of boys born increased slightly during and after major wars in several countries. One proposed explanation suggests that soldiers who survived combat were, on average, taller than those who did not survive.

Some research has also suggested that taller parents may be slightly more likely to have sons. Based on these observations, researchers explored whether differences in the characteristics of returning soldiers could help explain changes in birth sex ratios.

However, while the effect has been observed, scientists have proposed multiple explanations, and the exact cause remains uncertain.
