The Denmark Strait is home to Earth’s largest waterfall, but it is completely underwater. It lies between Greenland and Iceland. Cold, dense water cascades roughly 3,500 metres down toward the ocean floor. This drop is more than three times the height of Niagara Falls. The flow happens because cold, salty water is denser than warmer water. As the dense water moves through the Denmark Strait, it sinks and flows downward along the ocean floor. Scientists describe this underwater feature as a cataract rather than a normal waterfall.
