🌍 Blockchain for smart cities: How technology is changing urban structures
Blockchain technology, which serves as the foundation for creating smart cities, continues to actively develop and be implemented in modern megacities. The integration of blockchain into urban structures improves transportation systems, enhances the effectiveness of emergency services, promotes transparency in administrative and financial matters, and makes cities more eco-friendly. Today, let's take a look at how specific cities are implementing blockchain and how this technology is transforming the urban landscape.
🔍 What is a smart city?
A smart city is an ecosystem where various technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) devices interact, managing systems such as transportation, energy, healthcare, and even public safety. The integration of blockchain into this process creates a distributed ledger of data, which helps increase transparency and efficiency. For example, thanks to blockchain, traffic congestion can be reduced, infrastructure failures can be tracked, and responses to environmental changes can be quicker.
🌍 Where is blockchain already used in smart cities?
Despite the challenges of implementing the technology, several cities are actively using blockchain in their infrastructure.
🇦🇪 UAE — Smart Dubai
One of the most ambitious projects is the Smart Dubai initiative, aimed at creating a city that operates entirely on blockchain. It is expected that this system will help save around $1.5 billion annually. The project involves over 1,000 services, including land and utility management systems.
🇹🇼 Taiwan — smart passports TangleID
Since 2018, the city of Taipei, in collaboration with IOTA, has been developing smart passports that will contain medical data and protect information from theft. Additionally, the project includes the creation of sensors to monitor environmental parameters such as temperature and humidity.
🇨🇳 China — smart cities and blockchain
China plans to create 1,000 smart cities, with around 500 smart structures already in place. In the city of Yinchuan, blockchain technology has replaced traditional money and paper passes, and it also allows passengers to pay for public transport using facial recognition.
🇩🇪 Germany — blockchain for electric vehicle charging stations
Germany is developing a network of charging stations for electric vehicles using Ethereum blockchain, which allows users to monitor energy consumption and make payments via a distributed ledger.
💡 Predictions and the future of smart cities
According to forecasts, by 2030, more than 600 smart cities will emerge worldwide, and blockchain will play a key role in their development. These cities will use technology to improve quality of life, increase safety, and enhance the efficiency of urban structures. More and more countries and cities will implement technologies that ensure transparency and sustainability of infrastructure.

Ecology and Sustainable Development: The Latest Innovations
In a world where environmental challenges are becoming increasingly urgent, innovations in sustainable development play a crucial role. GrantiX supports projects that don’t just solve local problems but drive global change. Let’s explore the latest trends and real-world examples shaping our sustainable future. You have the power to make an impact—through your daily actions and by supporting concrete initiatives.
1. Green technologies in energy and industry
The oil and gas sector is now actively implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce emissions.
At the TESC 2025 conference in Turkmenistan, machine learning algorithms were discussed for monitoring methane and CO₂ emissions, including satellite data analysis of the Darvaza gas crater. Can you imagine a future with cleaner air? Reducing emissions is a critical step in mitigating climate change and decreasing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
2. Digitalization of environmental education
The first VR laboratories for teaching sustainable practices are emerging.
According to UNESCO, by 2030, over 50% of global curricula should include sustainability components to prepare youth for solving environmental crises.
In 2025, Russian schools and universities are actively adopting VR technologies, allowing students to simulate water purification or the effects of climate change.
3. Smart waste management
Biodegradable materials and recycled raw materials are gaining unprecedented traction. Awareness, cultivated through exposure and education, drives positive change for all living beings on our planet. May this trend continue!
Several successful technologies already exist for recycling plastic into construction materials, such as PlasticRoad’s modular pavement (Netherlands), and compostable packaging solutions.
4. Sustainable agriculture
Digital farms and organic farming are our near future—making both people and soil healthier.
At the AGRITECH-XI 2025 conference, IoT soil sensors and biotech methods to reduce pesticides were discussed. Digitalization here serves as a turning point in minimizing harmful agrochemicals.
5. Green transport and eco-construction
Hydrogen engines and passive houses will elevate sustainability and quality of life to new heights.
At ECOLOGY EXPO in Minsk, companies will showcase hydrogen-powered electric vehicles and construction technologies using recycled materials. Smart cities represent the next frontier of human development—where we invest in improvement rather than exploitation. This way, we preserve natural resources while creating jobs for those committed to sustainability.
Why this matters to GrantiX
We believe that innovation + ecology = a sustainable future. Our mission is to identify and support projects that are:
✔️ Effective (reducing business costs for eco-control);
✔️ Scalable (applicable across different countries);
✔️Socially impactful (improving quality of life).

UNICEF launches cryptocurrency fund
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced the creation of a dedicated Cryptocurrency Fund to receive, hold, and distribute donations in Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC). This landmark move marks the first time a United Nations organization will use digital assets in this way.
The first contribution of 100 ETH (equivalent to approximately $28,000 at the time of receipt) has already been received from the French-based Ethereum Foundation. These funds will be allocated to finance three grantees and the GIGA initiative, which aims to connect every school in the world to the internet.
This pioneering decision enables UNICEF not only to accept but also to distribute cryptocurrency directly without first converting it into fiat currency. This approach enhances transparency and increases the efficiency of fund utilization.
