*10 Important Suggestions for last 10 days*

Read time : 5-7 Minutes

2 cents of my learning by Hardworking Human

1) Accept that UPSC is just asking you to get 50% in prelims. This is what I learnt !

One can't and should not try to solve all problems and you would not be able to.. Focus on getting those 100 odd marks

2) Last 10 days work on your strength areas than fearing about your weakness. Your 100 marks earned can be different from someone else . Polity and Economy should have 75% accuracy, rest all has to managed

3) If the paper is tough, it is tough for everyone and vice versa. In exam this is the first assessment you should make! A tentative prediction of degree of toughness of paper!

Rule of thumb : If you had appeared last year, you can easily deduce

If not, see the spread of easier Qs, where they are, how long the Qs are, how much time it is taking, these all give you a good perspective

4) Because some topper 5 years back said he/she cleared the exam by solving 100s of test series, one should not focus on doing that! Focus on improving the low hanging fruits like picking out current affairs, economy, geography, polity Qs from tests, leave S&T history etc of test series, UPSC always frames better Qs in them.

5) The only constancy from last 4-5 years are rules that work. don't go with the notion that rules will fail this year and that will be your victory! 😅

No and never!

Those who clear also work on same rules and they trust them probably more than you!

In a battle you can't start doubting your own artillery and weapons! I have seen so many students falling in the trap of trying to not use what they have

6) Gone are the days of 180+ in CSAT even for IITians, slowly it is moving towards CAT level... Prepare well for CSAT if you have issues with that!

People sympathize a lot with students who say I was scoring 120+ in paper 1 however because of CSAT I could not!

No ! Again it is an excuse! We know UPSC said there are 2 papers and both needs to be cleared! You could be at disadvantage at paper 2, however that has be catered during preparation itself!

7) Do things in the present and not hallucinate about how will you approach the paper 1000 times! Leave it for exam hall! Wahan bhi to kuch karna hai naa 😄 Many people become fixated that I will solve 75 Q only, I will solve this section first, I will solve all Qs, there should not be any pre-exam fixation!

Adaptability is the key and that is the difference between a successful and may be unsuccessful candidate! Be agile and be ready to change!

8) He used to get less marks in coaching, uska ho gaya mera nahi hua, I am writing again either you start thinking aap gairgujre hain ya fir ye exam gair gujra hai

Avoid these thought process during these days! Aapke andar wo aag hamesha honi chahiye ki aap exam kyun de rahe! The answer has to be positive and it should be sufficient to push you

Mera kaise hoga first attempt hai abhi pura syllabus hi nahi hua! Again this is a trap, avoid it, kisi ka nahi hota

There is no ideal preparation, there is just preparation so prepare, freshers Or repeaters both see the paper completely fresh in the real exam and it is a matter of holding your nerves during those times

9) No fights with GF/BF/BFF/ Room mates / Family etc etc during these times! No new habits like coffee, or excessive smoking, drinking etc or new activities like Yoga even at the end! Don't stress out your best friend - mind!

Any new activity will make it anxious , follow your regular routine!

It is the key! Don't start doing unusual things which people even start noticing! Don't build up to already built pressure

An example would be I tried to forcibly sleep by 11:30 pm a day before in my 2016 attempt, it backfired!

Mai nind ke paas 11:30 gaya, nind mere paas 4:30 aayi

Next year I went at 1:30 am my normal time, and slept around 2 am!

My realisation was it becomes extremely frustrating that jab nind nahi aani chahiye tab aati thi and ab bula rahe to nahi aa rahi and makes us even more stressed!

Follow what yo
👍2❤1
u do everyday! Fool your mind and body ki kal aisa koi rocket launching nahi hai!

Bas you must not develop a habit of sleeping after 4 and din me jam ke sone ka! Rest a sleep of 4-5 hours for a day, body manages

Many start counselling actually on what to eat, when to sleep!

In my limited understanding rather than the focus on exam, our focus shifts on these things , so avoid the extra gyan, keep doing what you do!

10) Lastly don't start predicting cut off in the exam Hall itself and thinking I am already out! Ab kya hoga! Or I am definitely in!

The focus curve behaves like this : Initial 10-15 minutes are full of nerves, see random Qs of paper and settle your nerves by seeing your strong areas like economy, CUrrent affairs, polity- search for them

Then if you face tough Q, change 2-3 pages, UPSC has set of 25Q per set, may be next 25 are bit easier , look out for them

The focus is maximum in next 1 hour and then as we fill OMR , the next 30 min it decreases! We become bit casual before becoming serious again in the final 15!

That 30 min and initial 15 min as per us are the make break times! Tap your legs, drink water, rotate pen or do whatever to keep yourself super active in that laggard time ! Even 1-2 Q where you miss out by not reading it correctly, missing out easy Q, doing blunder etc etc, if avoided can be game changer in this period! Read in Hindi, trust what comes first in mind during this period! Trust what options you have read and don't go for exotic!

Additionally read class 6-7-8 NCERT history if you can for 5-6 hours! Art and Culture and history Q are directly coming from it since last 2-3 years... People ignore it and suffer

Rest always remember you were not the first one to give this exam and not the last one! People who are writing prelims are people and not bots !

And to err is to human

So people will commit silly mistakes and that will happen with you as well! Be relaxed, don't over do this exam in mind more than it actually happens, don't over hype it, don't over stress yourself!

Don't become a Shrondinger's Cat during these 10 days!

Be lively, see weather predictions of 10th, plan to reach centre as per the rain and sun before time and if you have survived the article by now, be sure you have read about 25 long Qs and 5 English passage of prelims 😅😄😆😬

So smile my dear friend!

You will be in the list :) At Least of the exam Hall 😆🤭

*From Yours*

Hardworking Human!
