A Protein Discovery Paving the Way for a Revolutionary Cancer Vaccine

A recently discovered protein, DdrC (DNA Damage Repair Protein C), is linked to the extraordinary bacterium *Deinococcus radiodurans*. This microorganism is nearly indestructible when it comes to DNA damage, withstanding radiation levels 5,000–10,000 times higher than those lethal to human cells.

DdrC acts as an unparalleled safeguard for genetic material, continuously scanning DNA for damage. Upon detecting a break, it clamps down on the affected site, much like a molecular bandage.

Researchers successfully integrated DdrC into *E. coli*, a common bacterial model in laboratories. Remarkably, the engineered *E. coli* became over 40 times more resistant to UV radiation. Theoretically, this protein could be introduced into various organisms—plants, animals, and even humans—enhancing DNA repair capabilities.

For example, DdrC could be utilized in cancer vaccines to bolster human cells' ability to prevent DNA damage. In agriculture, it might aid in developing crops resilient to extreme conditions caused by climate change.

🌟 This breakthrough holds transformative potential across medicine and biotechnology, offering innovative solutions to critical global challenges.

WHY shouldn't we use the phone before going to bed?

Experts suggest that the main reason why it's hard to fall asleep after using your phone is that you don't have time to settle down. Lots of people play right in bed, some read the news, others flip through their social media feeds. All of these activities can excite you both mentally and physically.

Curiously, many of these actions cause your body to produce cortisol, the stress hormone. Such as if you've read the disturbing news, or if an online game has a monster chasing you. Cortisol doesn't let you sleep, on the contrary, it wakes you up, since you can't sleep under conditions of "anxiety and danger"!

WHY is the intestines called the second brain?

The intestines and the brain exchange signals through the vagus nerve, running down the neck to the thoracic and abdominal cavity. Giulia Enders, bestselling author of "The Charming Gut. How the Most Powerful Authority Controls Us," compares the vagus nerve to the telephone wire linking the intestines to the individual centers of the brain.

The brain directs all the organs of the body, and many via the vagus nerve, but only the intestines have autonomy: if the nerve is cut, "disconnecting" the brain from the intestines, the latter will keep working.

It possesses its own nervous system, which scientists call the "second brain". It consists of a huge number of neurons and auxiliary cells, produces several dozens of neurotransmitters.

👁 You are completely blind for about 40 minutes a day. This happens when you move your eye from one object to another, then your brain purposefully blocks your vision so as not to show a blurred image.

🧠 Stroke :- A stroke is caused by a disruption in blood flow to the brain, which can be due to a blockage (ischemic stroke) or a bleed (hemorrhagic stroke). The main culprits are blood clots forming due to conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and atrial fibrillation, or blood vessels bursting, often from hypertension. Other causes include atherosclerosis (plaque buildup), aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations.

Types of Stroke:-

✏️Ischemic stroke (blockage)

Atherosclerosis: The buildup of fatty plaques in arteries narrows them, leading to blockages.
Blood clots: A clot can form elsewhere in the body (like from an irregular heartbeat, known as atrial fibrillation) and travel to the brain.
High cholesterol: Contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries, reducing blood flow.
Hypertension: High blood pressure can cause blood flow to slow and stagnate, leading to clots, and can also damage artery walls.
Other conditions: Chronic inflammation, sickle cell disease, and high homocysteine levels can all contribute.
✏️Hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding):-
Hypertension
: The high pressure can cause a weak blood vessel in the brain to rupture and bleed.

Aneurysms: A balloon-like bulge in an artery can stretch and burst.
Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs): These are tangles of poorly formed arteries and veins that can rupture.
Other causes and risk factors
Risk factors
: Many lifestyle choices and health conditions can increase your risk, including smoking, lack of physical activity, obesity, diabetes, and excessive alcohol use.
Other risk factors: Age, race, family history, and certain medications can also play a role.

✏️Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): This is a temporary blockage that causes stroke-like symptoms but results in no lasting damage. @Health

Who Do We Have to Thank for Muesli? 🥣🌾

We owe the creation of muesli to the Swiss mountain people and scientist Maximilian Bircher-Brenner, who was searching for the recipe for longevity among mountain communities. He discovered that their diet regularly included a mixture of ground wheat grains, berries, honey, and milk.

The oats in muesli bars, rich in vitamins B1 and polysaccharides, have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system ❤️ and help lower blood cholesterol levels. Interestingly, even calorie-rich nuts are a valuable source of fatty acids, contributing to metabolism and reducing the risk of diabetes. But of course, they should be consumed in moderate amounts and with no allergic reactions.

WHY might cold food or drinks cause a headache?

The reason is that cold irritates the upper palate, responsible for the nerve nodes transmitting sensations to the brain.

The blood vessels respond to cold by constricting or expanding, resulting in pain. When you feel cold, your body sends warm blood to the cold spot, which causes pain.

WHY does the cough intensify at night?

When a person remains in a horizontal position, mucus accumulates in the nasopharynx and the airways cannot be cleared.

With a runny nose, secretions from the nose and sinuses drain into the throat and cause a cough reflex, so the coughing is worse when we sleep, especially when turning over from side to side, and in the morning when getting out of bed.

Dust and dry air can make the cough worse. Dry and hot air irritates the mucous membranes and provokes coughing fits.
