Cloudflare acquires Deno
On October 10, the entire engineering team behind Deno moved to Cloudflare following a corporate acquisition 🤝. Cloudflare is absorbing the startup co-founded by Bert Belder and Node.js creator Ryan Dahl to integrate its runtime technology into the Workers platform.
The move comes shortly after Deno launched celld, an open-source project designed to replicate Cloudflare's own serverless infrastructure model.
Deno had previously raised $26 million in funding led by Sequoia 🛠️. The standalone runtime will receive monthly bug fixes for one year before development officially ends, while Deno Deploy winds down operations within six months. 📦
