Dear student,

Hope you are safe and doing well. This email is to update you on our plans for quizzes in the May term.

1. Quiz 1 and Quiz 2 were scheduled as in-person exams at centres for May 30, 2021 and June 20, 2021, respectively. Under the current
circumstances, we will not be able to conduct the quizzes at centres as planned.

2. To assess and ensure the learning of students safely, we will be conducting a remote-proctored quiz that students can take from their
own homes. Here are the main requirements for the remote-proctored quiz.

a) [Requirement 1] You need to have a laptop/desktop AND smartphone
(both with a stable Internet connection) AND a convenient space in your home (or some other place you can reach safely) for the exam.
Please make arrangements to the best of your ability to satisfy this requirement.
If you are able to satisfy this requirement, proceed to Requirement 2.
If it is not possible to do so, fill this form https://forms.gle/Hk2W3WKPWaJLY7Jf8 and provide more details, if not already done so.
If you are temporarily affected by the cyclone/floods, pls do not fill the above form. This is only for those who don't have the necessary requirements under normal conditions.

b) [Requirement 2] If you can satisfy Requirement 1, you need to participate in a system compatibility check on Thursday, May 27, to
check and sort out exam arrangements. For Instructions please check here.
Slots available can be found in the form, whose link is https://forms.gle/KcoUPfjvkCDzUgYP7 Request you all to book your slot and complete this test.
For those temporarily affected by the cyclone, we will open additional slots on Friday/Saturday.

c) [Requirement 3] Math I and Stats I students will be invited to a mock exam on Sunday, May 30.
If you are in Math I and Stats I, you will have to participate in the mock exam.

3) ONLY If you meet all applicable requirements above (Requirement 3 is only for those registered to Maths 1 and Statistics 1), you can appear for the remote-proctored quiz on June 5 or 6.
A detailed schedule regarding actual subjects and timings will be announced on June 1.

Please write to the support team for any questions or doubts about the above.

Dear student,

We have already extended the assignment 2 submission deadline to last Sunday and are now extending the Assignment 3 submission deadline to coming Sunday- May 30, 2021. This was possible only because quiz 1 is being postponed. If the quiz were to be held on May 30, 2021, we would not have been able to do so.

We would like to state that *THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER EXTENSIONS ON ANY OF THE ASSIGNMENTS HENCEFORTH* this term as the program timetable is quite tight. There are 10 days given for assignment submission under normal circumstances and we also count the best 6 out of first 9 assignments towards eligibility to write the final exam requiring average score in this to be >= 40/100.

This should give enough leeway for students to miss an assignment or two owing to maybe natural causes, college/work tasks, personal contingencies, etc.

Even if you miss submitting, hope you can always come back and practice those for the purpose of learning and preparing for the exams.
Warm regards

Dear Students,

As you are aware, we will be conducting the Quizzes for 5 subjects on Saturday and Sunday. To help you familiarize with the examination process and the features of the portal we will be providing two mock test slots (on Thursday and Friday from 7-9 PM). Please note that we will be using a customized app for these mock tests, the details for download and instructions to operate the app will be shared tomorrow afternoon.

The mock tests will be open only for those who have attempted the System Compatibility Test. You can choose to attempt a mock on any one day between these timings. Please do remember to work out the problems like you will do in the exam and upload scanned answer sheets in the portal for the mock too. We will not have proctor based verification in GMeet and hence you need to have only one device (the laptop/desktop) for attempting the mock test.

If you are facing any issues during the mock, please take a screenshot and alert us. We have put up a feedback form along with the tests for this purpose. Should there be any queries, please feel free to revert.

Dear student

We have created 2 applications:

*(Application will be available in the below mentioned drive soon)*

*1. Exam application -Electron app*
This removes all dependency on the browser - any other logins you may have,
non-chrome browsers you may be using causing access issues or some features
not working, etc.
Please download the application from the following location for today's
mock test. Make sure that you download the application corresponding to the
course that you are planning to take mock today.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gU_JPQFfYDF2xQ-bIArywIdQZrlwyezm?usp=sharing

*2. Snapshot tool - Seeya*
This application removes the need for gmeet for proctoring on the computer
which we did last time.
Launching this application before the exam start will enable us to get
snapshots of the desktop and you at regular intervals, the images are
directly uploaded to our server.
We need a webcamera in working condition with video permission given to it.
Please download the application from the following location for today's
mock test. Make sure that you download the application corresponding to the
course that you are planning to take mock today.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13__6vqlRk-WC8X-9ybZNu9BIjtZz6yZk?usp=sharing

*General instructions:*

Please read this document very carefully which gives precise instructions
on download and installation of the software. -
https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSdI7MujHd-LvbGqjxxKuTj8_AN_PCBC_1NcePYKF1G-6UMofjWC_PL7GKm_A_5NA/pub

The above 2 applications have been extensively tested and found to work on
Windows 10 - 64 bit
Mac Big Sur OS
Linux 20.04 version and above
(Pls upgrade to these versions if you can)
Other OS - live CD boot option is available, instructions given in document.

*If none of the above works,* go through the exam URL to try out the mock
exam.

Maths 1, stats 1, CT:
https://seek.onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in/courses/ns_online_mock

Maths2, Stats 2: https://seek.onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in/courses/ns_mock_sem2

*On exam day, if not using the Seeya app, *you will have to do a local
recording of the screen throughout the exam duration and upload the same to
us through a form we provide. Please ensure you know the process to do this.

*********************
1. The exam course will be available from 6:30pm today - Please read the
Code of conduct and exam instructions carefully and submit the "I agree".
If this is not done, we will not evaluate your exam marks.
2. At 7pm, the actual subject mock test will open.
Ensure you work out neatly on a sheet of paper and enter the final answers
in the portal.
3. Calculator is on top right and should be used. It works in toggle mode,
click to show and click again to close.
4. There is a chat icon on bottom right - click and see if you can chat
with others.
5. The assignment to submit scanned copies of handwritten answer sheet will
be opened at 8pm.
6. A feedback form will also be made available - please fill the same - 8pm
--------let us know if you were able to install the Electron app and Seeya
app and everything worked on the exam portal.

Try today's mock test for system compatibility with applications as well as
going through the questions and practising it.

6:30pm to 9:30pm: You will be unable to access your regular courses during
this time duration.
9:30pm: You will be able to access your other courses.

Write to support if you have any questions.

Dear students

We had convened the class committee meeting yesterday and here is a brief
report on the deliberations and the decisions.

* Eligibility for the final exam:

A decision was made to remove the requirement of attendance in one quiz to
be eligible to write the final exam - for this May 2021 term alone.

The grading policy for students who miss all quizzes in a subject will be
decided in the next class committee meetings.

* Grading of online exams:

The entire process of evaluation of answer scripts and portal answers from
online quizzes was explained in detail.

- The histograms of partially evaluated scores of all students were seen
for each subject and discussed in detail.

- Given the novelty of the online quiz process, a decision was made that
for each student we will disregard 2 questions in which he/she got their
lowest scores.

- The scores of the online exams conducted on June 19/20 will be published
between July 5-7.

* July 11 exams:

The rationale behind organizing exams on July 11 was discussed in detail.
To help students prepare better, the following will be done:

- The topics of focus in the courses will be shared with the students and
it is highly recommended that the 2 mock tests be taken by the students so
as to prepare well for the quizzes.

- Once students know their scores from online quizzes, they will be able
to decide on the exact subjects that they will be preparing and writing on
July 11. From an initial view of the scores from online quizzes, it appears
that many students registered for 4 courses may write two subjects in the
AM and 4 in the afternoon on July 11.

- Additional solve-with-us sessions from the instructors for the quiz will
be done on the topics in which students have faced serious difficulties.

- All the activity questions, practice questions, and graded questions
will be grouped into one assessment and random selections of questions will
be available on refresh for solving and preparing.

* General:

- For math courses, a suggestion was made to include a motivational part
on why each topic needs to be learned, and where it will be applicable in
the upcoming courses.

- Currently, courses have 50-100 problems every week. More practice
questions and problems were said to be desirable.

Warm regards

Dear Learner,

Greetings from IITM BSc Degree Team! Hope you are preparing to appear for
the quizzes on July 11.

Apart from the additional revision sessions that we are planning from
tomorrow, here are some resources we feel might help you in your
preparation.

*1. Transcripts of Weeks 1-9 consolidated into a single document:*
- We have consolidated Week 1 to Week 9 Transcripts in to a
single file. This is available under Supplementary contents unit of the
respective course.

*2. Consolidated questions and solutions document:*
- We have consolidated the Practice assignment and Graded
assignment questions from Week 1 - 9 and their solutions in to a single
file. This is available under Supplementary contents unit of each course.

*3. Assessment for practice:*
- We are creating a single practice assignment that consists of
all Practice and Graded assignments from Weeks 1-9 . You will get 10
questions randomly pulled out from the question bank each time you refresh
and reload the assessment. Together with consolidated solutions document,
this will help you in timing yourself for the problem solving. This will be
available under Practice Test unit.

Regards,
IITM BSc team.

Dear All,

The end term exam of Python will have both theory
and programming components. The theory component will be an in-center
proctored exam along with other courses on Aug 8th, 2021.

For the programming component, we will be using the Online Proctored exam
(similar to the Quizzes on June 19/20) process with programming questions
configured in our portal. The tentative date for the Programming exam will
be tentatively on August 1. We kindly request the students who had issues
in procuring a computer/proper internet availability for the
June-19/20 quiz to start looking at the possibility of arranging the same
for August 1. To help students in preparing for the programming exam, mock
programming questions will be made available in the portal next week.

The following aspects related to the exam will be discussed in the Class
committee meeting (scheduled later this week) and decisions will be
subsequently informed to all students along with detailed SOP of the exam.

1. Weightage of Programming Exam
2. Alternatives for students who are not able to do Programming Exam due to technical issues on the day of the exam

Regards,
