🍿 Four hours on Musk. And yeah, it earns them.

Alex Gibney knows how to turn a complicated monster into a film. He did it with Scientology in 'Going Clear', and from what this teaser suggests, he's applying the same forensic patience here. Four hours sounds excessive until you remember the subject has his hands in rockets, social media, the U.S. government, and a dozen other fires simultaneously.

The poster looks like it crawled out of a 2003 thriller bin, and somehow that's exactly right. There's a genuine question of preaching to the choir, and Gibney knows it. That tension, between rigor and audience, is what makes his best work land.

🍿 Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen is the most unsettling casting of the year

Lance Oppenheim built his rep on docs that feel fiction-adjacent (Ren Faire, Spermworld), so flipping that lens onto To Catch a Predator is a genuinely smart move. Robert Pattinson doesn't do an impression; he plays the hunger behind the performance, that barely-contained thrill of a man who knows the cameras love him.

The ghillie-suit moment in the clip is peak TCAP absurdity. Oppenheim keeps it deadpan. That instinct is exactly why this works.

🎬 Mike McFarland is gone. The voice of an old man who never actually grew old.

Mike McFarland passed away at 56 from glioblastoma, leaving behind a run that shaped how an entire generation heard anime in English. He joined Funimation in the late '90s and never left, voicing Master Roshi across every corner of the Dragon Ball Z universe, plus Buggy the Clown in One Piece. 56 years old. He started playing a lecherous immortal hermit at around 30.

He did a lot with Roshi in Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power arc. A character who could've coasted on cheap comic relief ended up landing genuine weight. That was McFarland finding something real inside the joke. Voice acting that invisible is the hardest kind.

🎬 Taron Egerton is the most wanted man in London. Not by the police.

Director Jonathan Schey inverts the predatory-dating dynamic entirely, with the women stalking and Egerton's "nice guy" Adam as the target. Sharp satirical premise, backed by Film4, StudioCanal, and LuckyChap, and clearly self-aware about every inch of its title.

The title stays. Good. Egerton playing a murky, likeable-but-not charmer is smarter casting than it first appears, and this kind of dark British comedy with actual teeth is exactly what Film4 does best.

🍿 The Odyssey just became Universal's biggest film ever. And WB handed it to them.

Christopher Nolan's gamble on theaters paid off to the tune of $1.68 billion worldwide, dethroning Jurassic World as Universal's all-time record holder. Matt Damon as Odysseus, a 97% audience score, and the best reviews of Nolan's career.

WB let him walk over a streaming policy. During COVID, they couldn't commit to theatrical exclusivity, and Nolan walked. He then made Oppenheimer and now this. That's two of the biggest films of the decade, gone. For a policy they've since abandoned.

This is what happens when a studio misjudges its own asset. Nolan is one of the few directors whose name alone sells tickets. You don't fumble that.

🍿 Mr. Irrelevant: the last pick who made it count

David Corenswet carries this thing on pure screen presence. Classic jaw, Golden Age magnetism, the kind of face Paramount used to build careers around. Good fit for a story that needs you to believe in a guy nobody believed in.

John Tuggle was the very last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. Dead at 25 from cancer. That is not a feel-good arc; it is a gut punch with a jersey on. Michael Shannon in the supporting cast suggests Paramount isn't playing it safe.

The real question is whether the film earns the tragedy or soft-pedals it into sports-movie wallpaper. The trailer hints at both. Cautiously on board.

🎬 Sally Field wins the Emmy. At 79. Every bit earned.

Sally Field took home Outstanding Lead Actress for Netflix's Remarkably Bright Creatures, becoming the oldest winner in her category. It looks like cozy background streaming. It isn't. Director Olivia Newman built something genuinely warm and well-crafted, and Field carries it with a precision that makes you forget she's acting at all.

Two Oscars and a near-mythic ability to make good material feel true. Netflix handed her a solid script, and she handed Netflix a masterclass.

🎬 Universal is sitting on the Elon Musk doc it paid millions for

Alex Gibney, who took on Scientology in 'Going Clear', finished a four-hour Musk portrait. Bleecker Street releases it in the US on October 16. Universal bought international rights in 2023 and is now going cold. Let's call it what it is.

Catch-and-kill logic without the clean NDA paperwork. The film exists, it has Oscar buzz, and Universal just doesn't want the phone calls that come with releasing it abroad.

Gibney has always aimed at targets who push back hard. A studio hesitating to distribute his work tells you more about the subject than any trailer could.

🍿 Brad Bird drops a single image. Again. Netflix nods approvingly.

Brad Bird has been carrying Ray Gunn since before The Incredibles existed. Noir detective, retro-futurist city, aliens, Sam Rockwell on voice duty. The premise still earns the hype.

The honest caveat: passion projects age in two directions. After Ratatouille's perfection and the thinner returns since, Bird has ground to reclaim. A still image proves nothing.

WB shelved it as a tax write-off. A scrappy distributor rescued it. Now Dave Green's hybrid courtroom comedy is at $100M global. Wile E. Coyote, unlikely box office hero.

It's uneven, and the pacing wobbles. But you feel the people who made it genuinely cared. That counts. Will Forte as the billboard lawyer is exactly right, and the Looney Tunes universe earns it.

🎬 Tom Cruise's big swing with Inarritu could land with a thud

Digger is eyeing a $20-29M domestic opening against a $130M budget. For a Cruise vehicle directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, that's not just underwhelming. It's ugly.

The combo looked bold on paper: Inarritu doing comedy, Cruise playing a grotesque oil billionaire. But mixed reviews landed early and audiences seem genuinely unmoved. Star power can't paper over that.

🎬 Dark Matter season 2 finds the book's darkest beat, and plays it smarter

Episode 5 is where the show earns its second season. Rather than a straight lift of what Blake Crouch wrote, the adaptation re-contextualizes the source novel's most gut-punch moment for a story that has evolved well beyond its starting point.

That's the move good showrunners make. Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly get material that honors the emotional weight of the book without turning it into a museum piece. Subtle is harder than faithful, and here it actually lands.

🎬 The Dave Bautista horror movie Netflix can't stop watching

M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin is dominating Netflix charts three years after its release. A family on vacation, four armed strangers, one apocalyptic ultimatum. Shyamalan keeps it lean and suffocating for all 100 minutes.

Bautista plays Leonard, the soft-spoken ringleader. It's the best dramatic performance of his career, full stop. He makes you feel sorry for the man holding a weapon to your head.

Robert Eggers and the werewolf myth feel like a natural fit, and the trailer proves it. Aaron Taylor-Johnson brings raw physicality, and Willem Dafoe lurking at the edge seals it.

Same Focus Features pairing as Nosferatu, co-written with Sjón. SlashFilm calls it the perfect companion piece. I buy that.

🎬 Assayas and Stewart are back. "Spiritual World" looks like the film they were always going to make again.

Olivier Assayas described the project as being "in the vein" of Personal Shopper, which tells you everything. Kristen Stewart alongside Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough, Wagner Moura, and Barbara Sukowa. That's a serious ensemble.

The Fassbinder regular Sukowa in an Assayas ghost story signals something more European, more patient. Krieps fresh off Corsage adds another layer. This won't be mainstream comfort food, and that's exactly the point.

🍿 Reacher already has a Season 6, and Season 5 isn't even finished

Prime Video renewed the show while cameras are still rolling in Toronto on the "Make Me" season. That's not a streamer hedging its bets. I like it. 💪

Alan Ritchson turned a guy who punches people into a reliable global draw, and Season 4 reportedly pulled 66 million viewers in 28 days. That puts Reacher next to 'Bosch' as Prime's longest-running scripted staple. My only worry is formula fatigue, but the one-book-per-season setup keeps it honest.

🍿 'Digger' is messy, and Cruise is why it works

Alejandro G. Iñárritu returns to English-language filmmaking for the first time since 'The Revenant', with a "comedy of catastrophic proportions." SlashFilm's early review says his indulgences nearly sink it. That tracks. The 'Birdman' ego-trip energy is right there in the pitch. 🎬

What intrigues me is Tom Cruise as the lifeline. Since 'Tropic Thunder' we know he's game for gleeful self-parody, and an auteur with a big satirical swing needs exactly that anchor. I'm in, with one eyebrow raised.

🍿 Jackson Lamb meets Dobby, and it works

This season, Gary Oldman (Sirius Black in 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban') shares scenes with Lenny Rush, the 17-year-old cast as Dobby in the HBO 'Harry Potter'. Lamb ends up shielding a kid whose father was murdered. Cute coincidence, sure. 🧙

What I like is that nobody sells it as a stunt. Rush plays a frightened boy opposite the foulest spy in London, and that's a better pitch than any wand-waving. 'Slow Horses' keeps landing sharp casting without begging for attention. 🕵️

/Film flags that Paladin, a deep-cut comic mercenary played by Todd Stashwick, is hunting a bounty on Vision. A hired gun with no cape and no cosmic baggage is the right scale after 'WandaVision'.

Paul Bettany has carried this character through every mood Marvel could throw at him. Ojo to Terry Matalas at the helm, who knows how to land a messy legacy. I just hope Paladin gets more than one fight scene to matter 🤞

🍿 The Social Reckoning has a legs problem, and I'm not sure Sorkin cares

📆 Release: October 9, 2026

Tracking points to an $8 to $13 million opening, against the $22.4 million that 'The Social Network' pulled in back in 2010. Soft for something this splashy, and it means the film lives or dies on word of mouth. 📉

Aaron Sorkin directs it himself, and Jeremy Strong and Mikey Madison are a serious pair. The October slot is shaky for an adult drama with no Fincher. This one needs critics to carry it. 🎬
