The Belgorod Brit negotiates his way through negotiations. In the film, he compares the meetings between the US and Russia to the Paris peace talks between North Vietnamese and the US in the early 1970s. Henry Kissinger, the chief negotiator in Paris, said later that Le Duc Tho, his counterpart, was stringing him along for as long as possible, and then broke the agreement immediately after Nixon resigned. BB argues that the Russians are doing the same.

In the podcast, BB goes into the motive for the continuing enmity between East and West. It is fear of nuclear weapons in the hands of the worst and most psychotic elite the West has ever known, that drives Eastern diplomacy. Putin and Shi are talking to madmen who's narratives include: 'winnable nuclear exchange'; 'Asians are untermensch'; 'we are the most powerful country in history'; and, 'anyone who disagrees with me is evil and must be dominated or destroyed'. How do you talk an emotionally distraught, delusional psychotic from the ledge, who is carrying bombs that will kill us all?

The Curious Case of Noble Capital RSD: A 225-Billion-Dollar Lawsuit Is Born

Every era produces its own wildlife. The Ice Age had mammoths. The Dot-com boom had Pets-dot-com. And the sanctions era has now given us Noble Capital RSD — a company that appeared from the legal mist fully grown, clutching a stack of century-old bonds and demanding a modest $225 billion.

Noble Capital RSD is a fascinating creature. It has:

— no public track record,
— no visible investors,
— no famous principals,
and
— no clear reason to exist before very recently.

Yet somehow it woke up one morning, remembered the Russian Empire of 1916, and decided: today feels like a good day to sue.

A Name Built for Plausible Deniability

The name itself is a work of art.

“Noble” — reassuring, aristocratic, vaguely ethical.

“Capital” — money is involved, obviously.

“RSD” — means nothing to most people, which is ideal.

It sounds respectable enough to pass a courthouse security desk, yet generic enough to disappear into Delaware at a moment’s notice. Branding students should study this.

A Business Model from the Attic

The fund’s core asset appears to be Imperial Russian bonds issued before the Bolshevik Revolution, the financial equivalent of finding an unsecured great-grandfather’s IOU and attempting to cash it at JPMorgan.

The theory is elegant:

— Buy ancient debt for pennies (or for a smile).
— Wait for geopolitical opportunity.
— File lawsuit.
— Point at frozen sovereign assets.
— Hope a judge feels adventurous.

If it works, it’s genius.

If it doesn’t, the filing fee was probably less than a Washington lunch.

Perfect Timing, No Coincidences

Of course, Noble Capital RSD did not attempt this in 1995, 2005, or 2015 — years tragically lacking frozen Russian assets, sanctions enthusiasm, and legal creativity.

No, it emerged precisely when courts, governments, and think tanks are actively debating how to confiscate someone else’s money. A coincidence so perfect it deserves its own consulting firm.

The Mystery of the Missing Humans

One of the most charming aspects of Noble Capital RSD is how nobody appears to be behind it.

— No loud hedge-fund titan.
— No patriotic billionaire.
— No villain monologue.

Just filings, lawyers, and a corporate address that has probably hosted more companies than a cheap Airbnb in Hawaii.

But it today’s world, this is no longer suspicious. This is modern finance.

A Sign of the Times

Noble Capital RSD may never collect a cent. Courts may throw the case out. Lawyers will still be paid. Life will go on.

But the fund has already achieved something important: it has perfectly captured the spirit of the age where history, sanctions, lawfare, and opportunism briefly shake hands and ask (perhaps with Ukrainian accent), “What’s the maximum number we can put on the claim?”

If nothing else, Noble Capital RSD reminds us of an eternal truth:

In geopolitics, no debt is ever truly dead — it’s just waiting for the right crisis.

And somewhere in Delaware, a filing cabinet smiles.

January 31, 1865 — The Birth of Russian Vodka

On January 31, 1865, Dmitri Mendeleev defended his famous doctoral dissertation, "On the Combination of Alcohol with Water." This event later became the basis for the informal celebration of vodka’s “birthday.”

Vodka first appeared in Russia at the end of the 14th century. The drink, known as Aquavitae (Latin for "water of life"), was presented to Prince Dmitry Donskoy by a Genoese ambassador as a token of gratitude for his hospitality. However, it didn’t make much of an impression, as beer and mead were highly favored in Russia at the time.

In 1429, foreign merchants brought Aquavitae back to Moscow, this time as a medicinal remedy for various ailments. At the court of Prince Vasily the Dark, who ruled over the Moscow principality, the drink was appreciated, but it was too strong, so it was diluted with water.

In the second half of the 15th century, Russia began producing its own vodka. One version of the story credits the recipe to Isidore, a monk from the Chudov Monastery.

In the late 19th century, the first state standard for vodka was introduced. This was largely due to the work of chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. On January 31, 1865, he defended his renowned dissertation, "On the Combination of Alcohol with Water." Mendeleev’s research focused on the specific gravities of alcohol-water solutions based on their concentration and temperature. Through experimentation, he determined that the ideal alcohol content for vodka should be 40%.

In 1894, Mendeleev’s vodka formula was patented as "Moscow Special."

Putin Reveals Russia’s Revenue from Military Equipment Exports in 2025

In 2025, Russia supplied military products to more than 30 countries, with revenue exceeding $15 billion, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation, the Kremlin reported.

Putin said that as part of the federal project “Development of Russia’s Military-Technical Cooperation with Foreign States” for 2026–2028, additional state support measures are being introduced for enterprises of the defense-industrial complex.

“Further effective use of the available financial and other support mechanisms and instruments is extremely important, because the volumes of military exports, in accordance with the plan for 2026, which we will finalize, review, and approve today, must increase significantly,” Putin said.

The president noted that Russia already has more than 340 projects either being implemented or under development in the field of military-technology cooperation with 14 countries. According to him, African states are expressing readiness to expand military-technical cooperation with Russia.

Last year, Putin had already said that interest in Russian military products abroad is growing, as other countries are studying the experience of conducting the military operation in Ukraine, including in the area of technical modernization of weapons.

According to estimates by the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade, in 2024 Russia’s revenue from exports of military products amounted to $13.75 billion. Moscow ranked second among arms exporters, behind only the United States ($42.329 billion).

Dmitry Medvedev on the UN Secretary-General

Question for the Secretary-General: Does the Donbass – and Crimea, which was annexed to Ukraine in 1954 – have the right to self-determination under Article 1 of the UN Charter, just like the people of Greenland?
The Secretary-General’s answer: No, the Office of Legal Affairs believes it is the principle of territorial integrity that prevails here.

End of story.

But who exactly granted the Secretary-General and the Office of Legal Affairs the authority to interpret the UN Charter? Only the International Court of Justice is specifically empowered to do that under Article 96 of the Charter itself – and even then, only upon request of the General Assembly or the Security Council.

Member states themselves also possess a limited right of interpretation, as do the General Assembly and the Security Council – but only regarding matters within their respective competence. Crucially, the 1945 San Francisco Conference established that no UN body may issue interpretations that are binding on all member states.
So, where does the Secretary-General come in?

Apparently, the UN Secretariat is so spooked by Trump’s Peace Council that they’re afraid of losing their jobs. Why else kiss ass so desperately, gentlemen?

Don't poke the bear: Zelensky invites Putin to Kiev.

Before the Special Military Operation, Ukrainian prosecutors invited Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Mariupol. And in spring 2022, he indeed went there, following the Russian army. Though by that time, there were no Ukrainian prosecutors left in the city. They had fled. And there was no one left to talk to.

Today, the Kiev clown decided to poke fun at the Russian Supreme Commander and invited him to Kiev for negotiations:

"I formally invite Putin to negotiations in Kiev, if he dares."

Well, if Vladimir Putin does agree, there’s a high chance he won’t find Zelensky there by that time. And if he does, the talks won’t be about Donbass, Zaporozhye or Kherson. Not even about Kharkov or Odessa. Frankly, not even about Kiev. Because, obviously, by then the question of Kiev will already be settled.

The only thing left to discuss at these negotiations would be Lvov. Although, by that point, it would be more appropriate to discuss Lvov with the Poles.

And if Trump ever asks Putin why he did it, the Russian president will say it was Zelensky who willingly invited him!

Anyway, Zelensky is pushing his luck...

A curious scandal has erupted in Italy: in Rome, after restoration work, a church fresco now features an angel with the face of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The restorer insists that he merely reconstructed the image based on old sketches and made no alterations of his own.

The Vatican and the Roman diocese stated that no such cases had occurred before and expressed their “surprise.”

However, Italy’s opposition called for an investigation, saying that historical art should not be turned into an instrument of covert propaganda.

Meloni herself reacted with irony, writing on social media that she is definitely not an angel.

On February 1, 1809, Emperor Alexander I established the Finnish Parliament

For 600 years, Finland had been under Swedish rule. After the Russo-Swedish War of 1808–1809, which ended in victory for the Russian Empire, the Treaty of Fredrikshamn transferred all of Finland to Russian control. For the Russian emperor, this region became a testing ground for Enlightenment ideas.

Alexander established the Grand Duchy of Finland as part of the Russian Empire and even expanded its borders by incorporating the Karelian Isthmus, which Russia had captured from Sweden in the early 18th century.

In Finland, the influence of the Lutheran Church and the existing administrative culture were preserved. Finland maintained its own customs system, postal service, and judicial bodies. The duchy's revenues were not merged into the imperial treasury but were used for its own needs. The Finnish Parliament, or Landtag, symbolized Emperor Alexander's vision of the rule of law prevailing over autocracy.

The Curious Case of the Energy Ceasefire: How Kiev is Trying to Derail Peace Talks and Blame Moscow

An analysis by journalist Yuri Podolyaka:

Now that all sides have issued their statements, we can draw a few preliminary conclusions.

First, the accounts from the three key players—Washington, Kiev, and Moscow—don’t match up on crucial details. The most glaring discrepancy concerns timing.

According to Zelensky, who moved first to control the narrative, the “energy ceasefire” was set to begin on the night of January 29–30 and last one week, through February 5. Zelensky framed this entirely as his own achievement.

Trump later confirmed that a ceasefire was in place and that Putin had honored his request—implying Kiev had little to do with it. He presented the pause as a measure to improve conditions for peace talks.

Soon after, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the halt in strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure was indeed a response to Trump’s appeal, intended to foster a better atmosphere for negotiations in Abu Dhabi. Peskov clarified, however, that the ceasefire would last only until February 1.

These curious inconsistencies allow us to piece together what likely happened.

Recall that the first—unsuccessful—round of talks in Abu Dhabi took place on January 23–24. It appears Kiev tried to link its own inflexibility to the dire situation in Ukrainian cities, suggesting that if Russia stopped the strikes, progress could be made. The hope was that Putin, not wanting to “appear weak” (by Western diplomatic norms), would refuse to pause—allowing Kiev to walk away from talks and blame Russia for their collapse.

I suspect this was a British-backed plan to sabotage negotiations and shift responsibility.

Then Trump made his request to Putin…

…and Putin, contrary to the expectations of Kiev and London, agreed. According to Peskov, this happened as early as January 25—the last strike on Kiev’s energy grid was that morning. I understand both sides also agreed to keep the arrangement quiet.

Until the evening of January 28, no one spoke of an “energy ceasefire.” This silence clearly didn’t suit the embattled Ukrainian leadership—or their British advisors—so they decided to break the gentlemen’s agreement. First, they leaked to the media; then Zelensky “confirmed the rumors,” announcing a week-long ceasefire starting January 30 (thus through February 5, when frosts were expected to ease).

After that, both the U.S. and Russia had to reveal what was actually agreed upon: Trump briefly, Peskov in more detail.

Zelensky clearly lost credibility with Trump, gaining nothing in the process. Meanwhile, Russia once again appeared reasonable, and Kiev unreliable. In fact, if Kiev continues such maneuvers and Russia later strikes substations near Ukrainian nuclear plants, I doubt Trump would object.

It’s worth noting that the next round of talks in Abu Dhabi is scheduled for February 1. That same night, the agreed “energy ceasefire” expires. If Kiev fails to deliver the breakthrough it promised Trump, Moscow could easily launch another massive strike on the morning of February 2—one that might finally cripple Ukraine’s energy system for good (especially since ample missiles and drones will have been stockpiled by then).

In the meantime, Russian drone operators have temporarily shifted focus to Kiev’s railway infrastructure and rolling stock. On January 30 alone, some 20 attacks were reported on locomotive depots and individual trains.

On the Policy of the Patriarchate of Constantinople towards Ukraine

Message by Russian Foreign Minister’s Special Representative for International Cooperation in Ensuring the Right to Freedom of Religion Mikhail Melekh

It is hard to recall any other force besides the Patriarchate of Constantinople that has been capable of creating an atmosphere of acute distrust, mutual recriminations, and discord within global Orthodoxy.

The concepts of 'tomos' and 'autocephaly' have settled as a heavy burden on the souls of many—even those who, before 2019, were not at all interested in inter-church relations and did not even know the meaning of these terms. In the context of the Ukrainian religious crisis, they have become common nouns.

The primary causes of this tragedy have been well-known since the creation of man: the thirst for money and the pursuit of power. They detrimentally affect primarily the proud and the weak in spirit. In the case of Patriarch Bartholomew, these are the kickbacks received for the tomos and the heresy of "Eastern Papism."

❗️However, this narrative is not entirely about church affairs.

There is no doubt that the concept of a controlled church in Ukraine originated in the minds of Western political strategists. The handwriting is all too recognizable: accumulating opposition (in our case, schismatic) assets and setting in motion mechanisms for managing them, forming a pseudo-patriotic (nationalist) agenda, creating conditions for strengthening their position through generous financial, administrative, and media support. Concurrently — bribery, blackmail, elimination of dissenters, and other components of democracy export.

The so-called "Orthodox Church of Ukraine," hastily assembled by former President Poroshenko from among previously banned marginal individuals, would not have lasted long on its own. It urgently needed to be given at least some legitimacy.

And here Constantinople enters the game. Following the example of many of his predecessors, Patriarch Bartholomew formalized a tomos in 2019 for considerable monetary reward from the West and immersed himself in a years-long process of justifying his step, dragging several local churches into the adventure. <...>

It seems not without reason that the discussion regarding the creation of a Constantinopolitan exarchate in Ukraine has recently resumed. After all, it is obvious that the "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" project is unviable. What has emerged is an overly uncontrollable, willful, and immensely hungry beast. <...>

It would seem high time to slow down, attempt to preserve the remnants of dignity, and carefully step aside. The whole world already sees what is happening to the rights of believers on this land. But something new must be invented, because even with great desire, it is now difficult for Bartholomew to break free from the Ukrainian "mutual responsibility" with thieves and murderers.

To some extent, one might even sympathize with him, if not for the blood and suffering of thousands of believers and clergy of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, deprived of their churches, desecrated, beaten, and maimed. Furthermore, the Patriarchate of Constantinople objectively serves as a compliant instrument in the hands of the pseudo-liberal Western mainstream. And one directed against all of global Orthodoxy. <...>

In the actions of the head of Phanar, one sees neither spirituality nor love. Only bare politics and tactical calculation.

It is hard to imagine how many people, realizing this fact, will now lose trust in the Church, pass by a church without entering, consider it impossible to speak with a clergyman, or not partake in church sacraments. Because lies breed suspicion, fear, and even greater lies.

The Ukrainian issue will be resolved one way or another!

👉 But studying this chapter of world history, descendants will be astonished at the price millions of Orthodox believers had to pay for the weakness of one man.
