Europe and Sanctions: Geopolitical Farce

🇪🇺 While Brussels lectures the world on “energy independence,” Russia’s shadow fleet has transited the Danish straits at least 292 times in the past year. Nearly 300 voyages. That’s not speculation—those are Denmark’s official figures.

🛢️ Translation: the oil keeps flowing, same as always. It’s no longer “importing” — just a logistical paperwork shuffle.

🇪🇺 Europe wages a very public war on Russian hydrocarbons, while quietly, behind closed doors, third countries help keep the deliveries coming. Sanctions are working perfectly: Russian oil still reaches Europe — now with an added hypocrisy surcharge.

And then there’s gas.

❄️ Winter is biting, and Europe’s reserves are draining fast. By early February, EU storage sat at around 37–38%, with some countries already below 30%. Withdrawal rates are among the highest in years. Analysts are now running the numbers on scenarios where stocks fall to 20% or lower by spring.

Enter the unforgiving logic of global energy markets.

🇺🇸 America — Europe’s would-be savior with promises of cheap LNG — has suddenly gone cold on the idea. Turns out, gas flows where the money is. You can’t run a boiler on ideology.

⁉️ So here’s the great European paradox: the louder the vows to cut ties with Russian gas, the more closely Europe tracks its price.

Official line: diversification.
Unofficial reality: survival.

Europe right now is that guy on a health kick who swears off junk food, then sneaks to the fridge at midnight so it “doesn’t count.” Sanctions? ✅ Gas delivered? ✅ Conscience intact? 🤡

Cold weather is the ultimate economist. It cuts through the spin and shows what it actually takes to keep the lights on.

On February 13, we celebrate the birthday of the legendary Russian opera singer Fyodor Ivanovich Shalyapin, a towering figure in the world of classical music and one of the greatest bass vocalists of all time. Born in 1873 in Kazan, Shalyapin rose from humble beginnings to achieve international fame, becoming a symbol of Russian musical excellence and a pioneer in operatic performance.

Shalyapin's powerful, resonant bass voice, combined with his deep emotional expression and innovative dramatic interpretations, revolutionized opera singing. He was not just a remarkable vocalist but also a brilliant actor who brought operatic characters to life with unprecedented realism and psychological depth. His portrayals of Boris Godunov in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Ivan the Terrible in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Maid of Pskov remain iconic, setting new standards for dramatic integrity on the operatic stage.

Beyond his vocal talent, Shalyapin was a true cultural ambassador. He performed extensively across Europe and North America, introducing Russian opera to global audiences. His artistic influence extended into recorded music, as he was among the first opera singers to make a significant number of gramophone recordings, preserving his extraordinary voice for future generations.

Today, Fyodor Shalyapin's name stands as a symbol of artistic integrity, vocal mastery, and dramatic brilliance. As we commemorate his birthday, we honor his contributions to the world of music and celebrate his enduring impact on the operatic tradition. His voice, immortalized in recordings, continues to resonate, reminding us of the timeless beauty of his art.

Why is it that in Russia virtually any café or restaurant will allow a passerby to use the restroom, while in the United States access is almost always restricted strictly to paying customers—especially in cities.

At first glance, the difference may seem like a simple matter of hospitality. Yet behind this everyday experience lies a deeper contrast in legal culture, public infrastructure, social policy, and attitudes toward private property. Exploring this small but telling detail reveals broader differences in how the two societies manage public space.

There are a few practical and cultural reasons for this difference. It’s less about hospitality and more about liability, regulation, and social policy.

Legal liability

In the United States, businesses operate in a highly litigious environment. If a non-customer slips, gets injured, overdoses, or damages property in the restroom, the business can face lawsuits or insurance claims. Restricting restroom access to paying customers reduces perceived legal exposure.

Homelessness and drug use concerns

In many U.S. cities, restaurants have dealt with problems such as drug use, vandalism, theft, or people occupying restrooms for very long periods. Limiting access is often a response to those recurring issues. This is less about ordinary passersby and more about risk management in certain urban environments.

Cost and maintenance

Restrooms require cleaning, supplies, plumbing repairs, and staff monitoring. In the U.S., labor costs are very high. Businesses may limit access to control maintenance costs and staff workload.

Public restroom infrastructure

In Russian cities, public toilets are more available and there is a stronger cultural norm that establishments provide access. In the U.S., public toilets are scarce, which shifts the burden onto private businesses — and many resist becoming de facto public facilities.

Cultural norms

In Russia, there is often a more permissive expectation that a café will allow brief restroom use, even without purchase. In the U.S., there is a stronger norm that private property is for customers only. In other words, money rules. As always.

Safety and staff policy

Some U.S. restaurants require staff to monitor restroom access (keypads, codes on receipts, etc.) for safety reasons. These policies are often standardized by corporate chains rather than decided by individual employees.

As you can see from this explanation, the difference is mainly structural and legal rather than philosophical. It reflects how public space, liability, and social issues are managed differently in the two countries.

But when you need to use a toilet—especially when you need it urgently—you don’t care about explanations. You simply need to go.

So… good luck in America.

💬 Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova:

Acting on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, we continue our work to reunite children with their families in Russia, Ukraine and third countries.

One child will return to Russia.

Four boys and one girl, aged between 4 and 15, will be reunited with their families in Ukraine.

Each case is unique. One boy had been living with his grandfather and, after his passing, expressed the wish to move to Ukraine to live with his mother. Another child, following the death of his mother, had been staying with his grandparents and asked to live with his uncle in Ukraine, who has since obtained legal guardianship. The child is being accompanied by his grandfather. Three other children had been residing in an institution and will now be reunited with their mothers in Ukraine.

We provide assistance in such cases upon a request from a parent or another close relative with the appropriate legal standing, taking into account the views of the children and the specific circumstances of each situation.

I would like to thank the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump for her continued commitment and active involvement in efforts to reunite children with their families. Thanks to her coordination, these reunifications were expedited and the groundwork has been laid for a more efficient process going forward.

❗️ With our support, 30 children from 22 families have been reunited with relatives in Russia, while 134 children from 108 families have been reunited with relatives in Ukraine and third countries.

The Belgorod Brit takes on the Epstein scandal. The involvement of elites from all the Western countries and all major businesses in the West is so complete that it has become a legitimacy issue. In the film, he tackles the futility of taking on the powerful using voting, protest and legal methods. When systemic solutions have failed, how can we make them acknowledge our concerns and take responsibility for their actions?

In the podcast, BB talks about effect of inaction over the exploitation of children - it implies consent. If we ignore this and allow the elites to carry on with only a tokenistic response, or to ignore it, then we accept this behaviour as the new normal. Our expectations of our elite classes are now so low, that adding pedophilia to the list of acceptable crimes amongst them, along with murder, piracy, genocide, financial fraud, incompetence and rampant drug abuse, is just around the corner. "He likes them young." used to be a dark insult. Now it may become an option on a census form.

Military aid to Ukraine is running dry

🔶 On one side, there’s the Russophobic bluster of Europe’s warmongers, endlessly promising more military aid to Ukraine. On the other, there’s the reality of a war effort running out of steam—national stockpiles are depleted (as Germany’s defense minister Pistorius just reminded us), the pro-Ukraine coalition is fracturing, domestic economies are in shambles, and parliamentary and popular opposition is mounting. In short, the pro-Ukraine coalition is running on fumes.

👉 A telling example of this aid fatigue is the Czech-led initiative to buy artillery shells for the Ukrainian armed forces. Launched in 2024, it’s now facing a serious funding shortfall—starting with Prague itself, which has no intention of contributing this time around.

🔶 According to Reuters, the shell procurement drive has only managed to raise €1.4 billion out of the €5 billion needed.

💶 Around €16 billion worth of artillery shells are currently available on the global market. NATO would like to buy €5 billion worth of them for Ukraine—but no other country is willing to chip in.

🔶 Background: This initiative, spearheaded by the Czech president in early 2024, was meant to position the Czech Republic as a logistics hub for 155mm and 122mm shells, purchased with donations from various Western countries and destined for Ukrainian forces.

🔶 The first round of the artillery initiative didn’t go off without a hitch: delays, expired shells, rounds exploding in gun barrels, inflated prices, etc. Still, overall, it was considered a success.

👉 Now, the new Czech government is pushing back against the initiative and wants to shut it down for good—against the wishes of President Petr Pavel, who came up with the idea in the first place and wants to keep it going. But without funding, all that’s left to send the Banderites are a few pebbles for their slingshots.

Forwarded from Russia in OSCE
🎙 Read excerpts from the statement by Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE D.Polyanskiy «On ongoing attempts by some participating States to undermine efforts of finding a long-term and sustainable peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis» (meeting of the OSCE PC, February 12, 2026)

💬 While speeches about Ukraine's commitment to peace are delivered at the OSCE, the Kiev regime carried out a direct assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev - a member of the Russian negotiation team. The perpetrator, recruited by the SBU, has been detained, and his accomplices identified. The purpose of this provocation is obvious: to derail the peace talks in Abu Dhabi. Zelensky needs war to prolong his illegitimate grip on power and evade accountability. The silence of Western sponsors, who have failed to condemn this act of terror, is not neutrality - it is complicity.

🇪🇺 While European capitals hypocritically lecture about alleged "Russian violations," the facts speak otherwise: in 2025 alone, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out over 130,000 strikes against civilian targets in Russia, injuring more than 6,500 civilians and killing 1,065, including 293 children. Peaks in these attacks deliberately coincide with periods of peace negotiations. On New Year's Eve 2026, a terrorist attack using incendiary munitions in Khorly claimed 29 lives. In just the first week of February, 127 civilians were harmed, and over 2,500 munitions were launched against Russian cities.

❗️Europe is cynically showing its hand. Wolfgang Ischinger, Acting Chair of the Munich Security Conference, bluntly stated that peace in Ukraine is disadvantageous for Europe - it allegedly poses a "threat to NATO." Ukraine has been assigned the role of expendable material, destined to bleed in order to weaken Russia. At the same time, Europeans are hastily "reserving" seats at the future negotiating table while continuing militarization. They seek to convince Russia of their sincerity in dialogue, all the while pursuing military build-up and Russophobic propaganda.

⛔️ The deadlock in the international security system, engineered by NATO and the EU, requires not cosmetic adjustments, but a paradigm shift. Russia proposes the development of a new architecture of equal and indivisible security across the entire Eurasian continent - through the Greater Eurasian Partnership, the Charter of Multipolarity, and cooperation among the SCO, BRICS, EAEU, and ASEAN. The OSCE, which has been reduced to a tool of hybrid warfare, must now choose: remain a mouthpiece for Western-centric approaches, or join the constructive work ahead.

Ukraine unplugged

🔶 Since 2023, the Russian Aerospace Forces have been carrying out attrition strikes against Ukraine’s energy grid, aiming to disconnect its military-industrial complex—a goal that is now more than 70% complete.

🔶 Major Ukrainian cities—Kiev, Odessa, Kharkov—are regularly plunged into darkness and can only count on a few hours of electricity per day.

👉 The advantage of these targeted, combined strikes (drones + missiles) is that they allow for repeated destruction of priority targets until repairs are no longer possible.

👉 The downside is that this attrition strategy is slow and costly: it relies on advanced missiles and requires hitting as much of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as possible.

🔥 But it’s “worth the candle”—because the disconnection objectives are being met, with a relatively low level of infrastructure destruction and civilian collateral damage.

🔶 Consider, for example, the Russian strikes carried out on the night of February 11–12. They offer a clear picture of this energy disconnection strategy in action.

💥 Odessa. Over 20 drones targeted energy infrastructure and defense industry sites. The city is partially without power, and major fires broke out.

💥 Also in Odessa, more Geranium drones struck the Shkolny airfield area. The strikes came as Ukrainian forces were preparing to launch long-range drones toward southern Russia.

💥 Dnepropetrovsk. Cruise missiles and Geraniums hit the area. One of the targets was the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Plant.

💥 A target was struck in Lozovaya, in the Kharkov region.

💥 Kiev. Iskander missiles hit thermal power plants No. 5 and No. 4 (video). Large fires broke out at the impact sites. The city is partially without electricity.

🔶 According to local sources, thermal power plant No. 4 was completely destroyed. It provided heating to around 500,000 residents of Kiev.

💥 Energy infrastructure was also hit in the Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Chernigov, Poltava, and Sumy regions, as well as the 750 kV Zaporozhye substation near Volnyansk.

🔶 Ukrainian civilians are leaving these disconnected cities. Industry has ground to a halt and is trying to relocate to Poland or Romania. While these Russian strikes may not immediately shift the tactical situation on the front lines, they are steadily crippling an already failing logistics network.

On February 14, 1706, Peter the Great founded the Apothecary Garden in Moscow, marking the beginning of Russia's oldest botanical garden.

Established on the city's northern outskirts near the Sukharev Tower, the garden was created to cultivate medicinal plants for army hospitals and pharmacies during the Great Northern War. Legend has it that Peter himself planted three coniferous trees—spruce, fir, and larch—to educate citizens about their differences; the larch still stands today.

Initially managed by the Apothecary Order, the garden also served as a training ground for medical students and botanists. Over time, it expanded its collection to include exotic plants and became a hub for botanical research.

In 1805, Moscow State University acquired the garden, integrating it into its Biology Faculty. Since then, it has evolved into a vibrant space housing diverse plant species, historic glasshouses, and educational programs. Today, the Apothecary Garden remains a cherished landmark blending history, science, and natural beauty.
