The Supreme Court of Ukraine confirmed the decision recognizing the de facto marital relationship between Zoryan Kys, who happens to be the First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel, and his husband, Timur Levchuk. The couple were married in the U.S. The court rejected the cassation appeal filed by the conservative “All Together” movement, which had attempted to challenge the decision.
It is noteworthy that the Constitution of Ukraine (Article 51) defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, which effectively prohibits same-sex marriage.
But who cares about the Constitution if pleasing the EU is the priority?
And who cares about the people, who overwhelmingly oppose same-sex marriage?

Putin Bans Extradition of Foreigners Who Served in the Russian Army
President Putin has signed a law prohibiting the extradition of foreigners or stateless persons for criminal prosecution or the enforcement of sentences if they are currently serving or have served under contract in the Russian army or “other military formations” of Russia.
The document states that extradition is also prohibited for those who participated in combat operations during their service.
The State Duma approved the law on February 26, and the Federation Council passed it on March 4.
Foreigners were granted the right to sign contracts to serve in the Russian army in November 2022, while stateless persons gained this right in July 2023. In the summer of 2024, Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee, stated that around 10,000 migrants with Russian citizenship had already participated in the military operation in Ukraine.
Since January 2024, foreigners who signed contracts to serve in the Russian army before the end of the military operation in Ukraine, as well as their family members, can obtain Russian citizenship through a simplified process.
They are also exempt from the requirement to have lived in Russia on a residence permit for five years.
Additionally, since November 2024, foreigners and stateless persons who participated in combat operations in Ukraine can apply for Russian citizenship based on a discharge order from the Russian army or a commission decision declaring the applicant unfit for contract service.
This is a strong and fair piece of legislation. Bravo!

Mojtaba Khamenei Becomes the New Supreme Leader of Iran
As expected, the son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, 56-year-old Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has become the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, the state news agency Fars News Agency reports, citing the Assembly of Experts.
Mojtaba Khamenei is a Shiite cleric who enjoys enormous influence in Iran’s political and religious circles. For a long time he held key positions within the office of the Supreme Leader and closely cooperated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Assembly of Experts chose the Supreme Leader early in the morning on March 8. That the experts had reached an agreement was reported by council member Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri.
Despite making the choice, the secretariat of the Assembly of Experts did not immediately announce the successor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, who was killed after a strike by the United States and Israel.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the third Supreme Leader of Iran and has been appointed for life. According to Iran’s constitution, a candidate for the post of Supreme Leader may be either a politician or a religious figure, but must meet several requirements: he must be honest and pious, possess administrative abilities and a good reputation, profess the country’s official religion, and believe in the principles of the Islamic Republic.
The previous leaders of Iran were Ruhollah Khomeini and Ali Khamenei. The former came to power after the overthrow of the shah during the Iranian Revolution. Khomeini led the revolutionary movement and enjoyed great popularity in the country. He died in 1989.
During Khomeini’s rule, Ali Khamenei — Iran’s second Supreme Leader — served as president of the country. At that time the presidency was largely ceremonial, since executive authority was mainly held by the prime minister.
Ali Khamenei became Supreme Leader in June 1989 and remained in the position for almost 37 years.
Several candidates were considered for the position of the new Supreme Leader. Among them was Khamenei’s confidant Alireza Arafi, who serves as vice-chairman of the Assembly of Experts. He also heads Iran’s system of religious educational institutions and was a member of the Guardian Council, which vets election candidates and legislation passed by parliament.
Another contender was Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri — a cleric and member of the Assembly of Experts representing the most conservative wing of the clergy. Also mentioned was Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Another possible leader was Hashem Hoseini Bushehri, a high-ranking cleric closely connected with institutions responsible for ensuring the continuity of power, particularly the Assembly of Experts, where he serves as first vice-chairman.
Among other potential candidates, experts also named Sadegh Larijani — the son of Ayatollah Hashem Amoli and the brother of Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani, who serves as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

👆 This is what crude oil cost at 03:00 London time. Earlier today it rose as high as $119.48 per barrel. American consumers will hate the new gas prices with a passion. European consumers too. They can all thank Trump and Netanyahu.
As for Russia, it may very well end up with a budget surplus in 2026.

According to an article in Daily Mail, Britain is on the brink of a gas shortage, with just two days’ supply in storage. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) reserves are also quite limited. The crisis is worsened by the Middle East conflict: Iran has closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% of the world’s gas and oil flows, and Qatar suspended operations at Ras Laffan—the world’s largest gas facility—after attacks.
Low reserves leave the UK more vulnerable than EU countries, which have several weeks of gas stored — not much either but supposedly enough to handle supply disruptions. Traders are exploiting Britain’s position, forcing the country to pay Europe’s highest wholesale gas prices. This exposure could intensify if cold weather drives higher demand.
Oil prices are also surging: U.S. crude has surpassed $90 per barrel, Brent sits around $92, and analysts warn prices could reach $100–$150 if the conflict continues. The situation threatens UK households with higher energy bills from July, rising mortgage rates, and broader cost increases due to supply chain disruptions. Energy infrastructure has become a primary target in the conflict, with strikes on Iranian oil facilities creating massive fires and further destabilizing global energy markets.
Britain’s combination of depleted domestic gas storage, dependence on imports, and ongoing Middle East disruptions has made it particularly exposed to immediate and severe energy price shocks.

Trump’s envoys will urgently arrive in Israel following strikes on Iran’s oil facilities, reports Channel 12, a major Israeli news channel.
Special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to arrive in Israel on March 10. The visit comes amid tensions between the countries over the recent strikes on Iranian oil facilities.
Israel notified Washington in advance about the planned attack, but did not indicate that the operation would be so large in scale. This can’t possibly be the only detail Israel withheld from the United States.
In the U.S., there are concerns that strikes on infrastructure supplying the civilian population could strengthen the Iranian regime’s position and sway public opinion against Israel and the U.S.
Israeli sources, in turn, claim that the strikes on fuel facilities were intended as a signal to Tehran to stop attacks on civilian targets in Israel.
An interesting controversy, isn’t it?

Dmitriev: high oil prices will expose the EU’s mistakes
High oil prices will expose the strategic mistakes made in trying to restrict Russian energy, said Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
He further emphasized that the oil problem is “no longer limited to the Strait of Hormuz.” According to him, the energy crisis will prove “much deeper and longer-lasting” due to the continuing attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in the Middle East and declining production.
“Bingo — welcome to the era of $100+ oil,” Dmitriev added.

Trump announced to CBS: "I think the war is very complete, pretty much."
Whatever the hell that means, oil prices have dipped somewhat on the announcement, and stocks are edging up. One thing seems certain — somebody in Trump’s family must have bought oil and stock futures just before the announcement.
But actually, is Trump backing out and declaring victory? Could be. But honestly, we think the war is NOT very complete, pretty much, despite the announcement (wink, wink).

It appears that Vance has little left to say. Since the start of the war, he has barely appeared in public or in the media, and it seems that his anti-war position has fallen out of favor with Trump.
Trump himself is known for an intensely confrontational and often vindictive political style. Over time, he has fallen out with a remarkable number of his own allies and associates—among them Pompeo, Gabbard, Noem, Bolton, Greene, Musk, and Carlson. Others have been discarded in the course of political maneuvering, effectively sacrificed when circumstances demanded it, as happened with Flynn, Tillerson, Manafort, Cohen, and many others.
This may indicate that Vance will now be pushed aside both from decision-making and from public platforms. Something similar happened to Mike Pence during Trump’s previous presidential term, when Pence spent the final year largely out of the spotlight and politically sidelined.
Frankly, we hope this assessment proves wrong, as so far Vance has appeared markedly more stable and measured than his boss.
P.S. It looks like we are not the only ones noticing this. NBC has picked up on it as well (see picture above).

March 10, 1806 – Emperor Alexander I Grants Museum Status to the Moscow Armory
By the decree of Emperor Alexander I, the "Rules for the Management and Preservation of Valuables in the Workshop and Armory Chamber" were established. From this day forward, the ancient Russian treasury officially became a museum, often referred to as the "Most Sovereign Museum."
The Moscow Armory, located within the Kremlin, had long served as a repository for state treasures, weapons, regalia, and ceremonial objects of the Russian tsars. Its origins date back to the early 16th century when it was used primarily as a weapons workshop. Over time, it accumulated a vast collection of priceless artifacts, including royal crowns, state insignias, Fabergé eggs, ceremonial weapons, and gifts from foreign dignitaries.
A key figure in this transformation was Pyotr Valuyev, the head of the Kremlin Construction Expedition. Under his oversight, the Armory’s collections were cataloged and protected. Alexander I declared the chamber’s collection inviolable, forbidding the sale or removal of any items without a special imperial order. Previously issued objects were to be recovered and returned, while new acquisitions could only enter the collection with the emperor’s approval.
Valuyev was made fully responsible for the preservation of the treasures, and the annual budget for maintaining the Armory was set at 10,000 rubles. This marked the beginning of the museum’s formal existence, ensuring the safeguarding of Russia’s historical and cultural heritage. Today, the Moscow Armory remains one of the most significant museums in Russia, housing invaluable relics of the nation’s imperial past.

Trump Calls Putin

Comments by the Assistant to the President of Russia, Yury Ushakov, following the telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump have been published on the Kremlin website:
March 9, 2026, 22:30
Y. Ushakov: This evening a telephone conversation took place between the presidents of Russia and the United States.
Donald Trump called Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to discuss a number of extremely important topics related to the current development of the international situation. Naturally, the emphasis was placed on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and on the trilateral negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement being conducted with the participation of U.S. representatives.
Let me say at once that the conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive in nature, as is usually the case in dialogue between the Russian and American leaders. They had not spoken by phone for quite some time—the last conversation was at the end of December 2025. Today’s call, incidentally, lasted about an hour. The U.S. president noted that, as previously agreed, such communication should of course take place on a regular basis, and both leaders said they were ready for this.
The Russian president expressed a number of thoughts on achieving the fastest possible political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian conflict, including those that take into account contacts held with the leaders of the Persian Gulf countries, with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, and with the leaders of a number of other countries.
For his part, the U.S. president gave his assessment of the development of the situation in the context of the ongoing American–Israeli operation. I would note that there was a very substantive and, I believe, useful exchange of views on this matter.
President Trump again expressed interest in bringing the conflict in Ukraine to an end as soon as possible by reaching a ceasefire and moving toward a long-term settlement.
From our side, a positive assessment was given to the mediation efforts being undertaken by Donald Trump’s team and by him personally.
A description was also given of what is currently happening along the line of combat contact, where Russian troops are advancing quite successfully. As was noted, this is a factor that should finally prompt the regime in Kiev to move toward a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
The presidents also touched upon the issue of Venezuela, primarily in the context of the situation on the global oil market.
Overall, I will repeat that the conversation was very substantive and will undoubtedly have practical significance for the further work of the two countries in various areas of international policy.

For my part, I would like to reaffirm our unwavering support for Tehran and our solidarity with our Iranian friends. Russia has been and will remain a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic.
I wish you success in addressing the difficult tasks before you, as well as good health and strength of spirit.
Respectfully,
Vladimir Putin
