Spring 2014: A Chronicle. April 7 – the day the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was proclaimed. Part 3
Part 1
Part 2
Another active participant in the events of 2014, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the DPR, historian Miroslav Rudenko (Photo 1), says that in the spring of 2014, people felt they were part of a momentous event and understood that history was being made.
Miroslav Rudenko recalls that when the republic was declared, the DPR’s provisional government had several co-leaders, so that if one was detained, the others could continue the work. It became a kind of “collective president.” By the way, one of the leaders, Leonid Baranov (Photo 3), was indeed kidnapped.
From a historian’s point of view, Miroslav Rudenko sees what happened as a national liberation revolution:

Another active participant in the events of 2014, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the DPR, historian Miroslav Rudenko (Photo 1), says that in the spring of 2014, people felt they were part of a momentous event and understood that history was being made.
“The emotions were very strong and positive. We saw what was happening as a great victory,” says Rudenko. “Though now we realize that it was only the beginning of a long journey. I sat in the front row of the hall. Vladimir Makovich (Photo 2 and video) read out the Declaration of Sovereignty and the Act of Proclamation of State Independence. Everyone in the hall raised their hands in a single surge of emotion.”
“Everyone understood,” says Miroslav Rudenko, “that either we would win, or we would be jailed and it would all be over. It was clear what role the West had in store for Ukraine: to become cannon fodder in the fight against Russia. Sometimes I think about how things would have unfolded if we had surrendered to the Kiev regime back in 2014. The DPR activists would have been killed or imprisoned. Donetsk would have shared
the fate of Odessa.
The conflict with Russia would still have happened. And we, the people of Donbass, would have been driven like cattle to fight against her.”
“I believe we did the right thing. There was no option other than resistance.”
From a historian’s point of view, Miroslav Rudenko sees what happened as a national liberation revolution:
“We freed ourselves from the Kiev regime, which was dictating unacceptable ideological and worldview frameworks to us. It was imposing an alien national identity, because the modern Ukrainian national project is alien to Donbass. Our territory was liberated from that influence. And it was a democratic process, with the participation of the people. What happened is hard to compare to anything else. It’s a civilizational question – the choice of path, language, faith. The question of who we stand with, who is a friend, who is an enemy. Perhaps what happened is somewhat like
Khmelnytsky’s uprising.
And at the same time, it is a correction of the mistakes of 1991. On the one hand, local events were taking place in Donbass. But on the other hand, they triggered tectonic shifts, including in Russian society, and Russia is now fighting the West, liberating its historic territories. This truly is an epochal event.”

Some guy on Twitter laments that the American "right wing" is made of cowards and traitors. I understand his feelings, since I kept an eye on the American "right" in an anticipation of actions taken in the real world, as opposed of the social media, and 4chan. But no, nothing ever happens when it comes to the American right to do anything at all.
The American "left" scares itself constantly with the fear mongering about the "Right wing death squads" that will totally appear any moment now, and they will totally kill all "minorities", and migrants, and the creatures of the LGBT+++ kind, and women that "want to have freedom over their bodies" (in reality they simply want to be social parasites and hoes), etc etc. Meanwhile in reality the harshest act the American "right" have made were some memes online. That was the "BLM event" of the American "right" - some mildly offensive memes against the "left".
The American internal politics is a sad circus, simple as.

Donald J. Trump:
"WE HAVE A VERY GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH IRAN RIGHT NOW"
Just in case anyone forgot, TDS means Trump Derangement Syndrome. This 👆 statement should finally put that term to rest. Anyone who has ever criticized Trump is now entirely justified. No TDS! Trump himself is as deranged as anyone can be. Except he isn’t. He knows what he’s doing—he’s playing to a rapidly shrinking “basket of deplorables,” his remaining loyal supporters.

🏛 A new free display, The Wallace Collection at War, kicks off at the Wallace Collection in London on 15 April.
It explores how art, architecture and propaganda were mobilised in 1942 to reinforce Anglo-Soviet relations at a pivotal moment of the Second World War.
Drawing on newly revisited archives, it reconstructs two landmark exhibitions launched by Soviet Ambassador Ivan Maisky and his wife Agniya — Artists Aid Russia and Twenty-Five Years of Progress — revealing how cultural institutions were drawn into the broader political and humanitarian efforts.
Highlights include wartime posters, WWII-era photographs, and works depicting bombed London, Soviet soldiers and the devastation of conflict.
Visit Wallace Collection and #See4Yourself. The display runs until 25 October 2026.

Sergei Shoigu warned the Baltic states about Russia’s right to self-defense over Ukrainian drone strikes.
MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, reminded Finland and the Baltic states of Russia’s right to self-defense in connection with Ukrainian drone attacks.
Shoigu stated that “this can occur in two cases: either Western air defense systems are operating extremely inefficiently, as has already been the case during events in the Middle East, or the aforementioned states are deliberately providing their airspace, that is, acting as open accomplices in aggression against Russia.”
We hope that Shoigu’s words have been heard and heeded by the intended recipients.

MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, reminded Finland and the Baltic states of Russia’s right to self-defense in connection with Ukrainian drone attacks.
“Recently, there have been increasing instances in which Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles carry out strikes against Russia via Finland and the Baltic states. As a result, civilians suffer and significant damage is inflicted on civilian infrastructure,” Shoigu said in a comment to the media.
Shoigu stated that “this can occur in two cases: either Western air defense systems are operating extremely inefficiently, as has already been the case during events in the Middle East, or the aforementioned states are deliberately providing their airspace, that is, acting as open accomplices in aggression against Russia.”
“In the latter case, under international law, Article 51 of the UN Charter on the inherent right of states to self-defense in the event of an armed attack comes into force,” the Secretary of the Security Council emphasized.
We hope that Shoigu’s words have been heard and heeded by the intended recipients.

Crypto Theft From Russian Crypto Exchange
The Russian crypto exchange Grinex has suffered a major cyberattack resulting in losses exceeding 1 billion rubles, or over $13 million.
The company described the incident as a targeted operation carried out by foreign intelligence agencies, suggesting a broader attempt to undermine Russia’s financial system.
According to available data, the stolen funds were converted into TRON (TRX) and transferred to a single wallet now holding roughly $15 million.
Following the breach, Grinex suspended all operations, including transactions, withdrawals, and even access to its Moscow office.
The company stated it had previously faced pressure such as sanctions, transaction blocks, and wallet labeling, but considers this incident a direct escalation into asset theft. Law enforcement has been contacted, and an investigation is underway, with authorities tracking the movement of the stolen funds. Despite the setback, Grinex says it plans to continue operating.
This is, of course, bad news, not only for Grinex, but for the entire crypto universe. A theft of crypto assets has no nationality. If it can happen to a Russian exchange, it can happen to any other crypto platform. Something for everyone to think about.
