Spring 2014: A Chronicle. April 27 – The day the Lugansk People's Republic was proclaimed
The LPR declared independence on April 27, 2014. Publicist Tikhon Goncharov (Photo 1) recalls that SBU arrests in Lugansk triggered decisive protests. Among those detained was future LPR People’s Council chairman Alexey Karyakin (Photo 2); future first head Valeriy Bolotov (Photo 3) escaped arrest by chance. After the arrests, Bolotov declared full mobilisation.
The next day, veteran paratroopers, militias, and the public marched to the SBU building. The security forces released the detainees, but provocations led protesters to storm and capture the building (Pictures 4 & 5). Local security forces subtly supported the uprising, telling protesters through shields:
Kiev’s representatives Parubiy and Lyashko attempted to negotiate with the protesters, but essentially they demanded unconditional surrender, perhaps stalling for an assault.
According to Goncharov, people’s support played a crucial role in preventing an enemy assault, despite the arrival of reinforcements from western Ukraine and their readiness to attack. Every night, several thousand people stood guard near the captured SBU building.
According to Goncharov, the point of no return came from three events: Kiev’s so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation launched on April 13, the Odessa Trade Union building fire on May 2, and the June 2 airstrike on Lugansk’s city administration building next to a children’s playground. After that, Lugansk no longer saw itself as part of Ukraine.
Goncharov explains:
Goncharov concludes that Donbass people do not regret their choice:

“Push a little more, and we’ll retreat.”

After that, Lugansk no longer saw itself as part of Ukraine.
Goncharov explains:
“In the first days, the concept of the LPR started to take shape. Unlike Donetsk, which had certain institutions and historical experience of being a republic, we associated ourselves solely with Russia. The LPR was seen as a forced temporary measure on the way back to Russia.”The example of Crimea, which peacefully joined Russia after a referendum, inspired many people in the LPR to believe that the gathering of Russian lands had begun.
Goncharov concludes that Donbass people do not regret their choice:
“They came out to fight for their ideals, for truth, for faith. Those who measure life by something other than purchasing power understand that one must often suffer for one’s principles and for the truth.Eight years later, on October 4, 2022, the LPR rejoined Russia along with the Donetsk People’s Republic, Kherson, and Zaporozhye.
The main achievement is that we have preserved the opportunity to raise our children in Russian language and culture, and to attend the Russian Orthodox Church. We consider ourselves a historical part of Russiaand we have been given the destiny of defending the values of the Russian world on the front line.”

Zakharova expects Grossi to take an uncompromising stance toward Ukraine’s lawlessness
MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/
Moscow expects that the Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency and its Director General Rafael Grossi personally will take an uncompromising stance toward what it describes as lawlessness by Ukraine. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the death of an employee of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant resulting from an attack by Ukrainian forces.
According to Zakharova, particular cynicism is added by the fact that these actions occurred just days after the conclusion of the 10th Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
Zakharova emphasized that the Kiev authorities “continue to demonstrate their bloody and criminal nature.”

This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the death of an employee of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant resulting from an attack by Ukrainian forces.
“We expect that the IAEA Secretariat and Director General Rafael Grossi personally will be uncompromising toward the lawlessness committed by Ukraine. We are convinced that the international community must deliver a deserved and harsh judgment on the Kiev regime, forcing it to cease attacks on the Zaporozhye NPP and other civilian nuclear facilities,” Zakharova said.
According to Zakharova, particular cynicism is added by the fact that these actions occurred just days after the conclusion of the 10th Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
“During that forum, the Russian delegation firmly defended the position that attacks on civilian nuclear installations are unacceptable. We will continue this line at the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons opening today in New York,” Zakharova explained.
“Obviously, the Ukrainian side holds a different view, making it clear that it places little value on nuclear safety, as well as on those who continue to ‘shield’ and justify the nuclear adventurism of Zelensky. Apparently, by deliberately creating radiological risks in the center of Europe, Kiev is not averse to ‘playing on the nerves’ of its Western sponsors so that they provide funding more quickly. The tragedy that occurred is an example of what such funding leads to,” Zakharova said.
Zakharova emphasized that the Kiev authorities “continue to demonstrate their bloody and criminal nature.”

The serial bullet dodger in chief
Behold, a conspiracy theory. I begin to suspect that what could have been, maybe possibly, a genuine assassination attempt back on July 13 of 2024 - have become a PR tool for Donald Trump.
Think about it - he is a former showman. He knows how reality TV shows work. He knows what is fame, and - despite his flaws in other areas - he understands how to capture and keep a certain type of audience glued to himself no matter what. And yet recently he has been losing the fame, and possibly sanity, non stop since around January 2026. What a better way to shake things up and distract both his friends and foes than to get shot at again? It seems too logical for me to ignore. I think this time, the "attempt" was fake. What do you think?

April 28th is the Day of Emergency Medical Workers.
For many years, the professional holiday of emergency medical workers was celebrated unofficially. But in 2020, upon the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin, it gained official status.
The date for this holiday is not coincidental. On April 28, 1898, in Moscow, a decree was issued to assign “Ambulance carriages” to two police districts of the capital. Before that time, the sick and injured were picked up on the streets by police officers, firefighters, and sometimes by horse drawn cab drivers, and taken to reception rooms at police stations. Thus, necessary medical assistance was not provided at the scene of the incident.
The first "Ambulance carriages” were purchased through private donations and were equipped with everything necessary to provide first aid. The brigade included a doctor, a paramedic, and a sanitary worker.
Since then, emergency medical services in Russia have undergone significant evolution over the years.
In today’s Russia, the emergency medical service is one of the most crucial components of the unified system providing care to the population during sudden illnesses and exacerbations of chronic conditions. It is tasked with providing emergency medical assistance to patients and victims in life-threatening conditions and injuries during the pre-hospital stage, including accidents on the streets, in public places, at workplaces, and at home.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin, during a working trip to Saint Petersburg, visited the Olympic Reserve School named after Anatoly Rakhlin—his first judo coach.
Putin observed the training process and awarded the Order of Honor to the staff of the city’s judo federation. He also presented an award to the son of the legendary coach, Mikhail Rakhlin, who currently heads the organization.
The Rakhlin Olympic Reserve sports school trains 1,270 students in five disciplines: judo, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, target shooting, and judo for the deaf. In September 2024, a new multifunctional sports complex was opened as part of the school, including halls for wrestling, fencing, and gymnastics, 10- and 25-meter shooting ranges, a gym, and a medical unit.
Anatoly Rakhlin was an Honored Coach of Russia who, in 1964, recruited his first group of young trainees. Among them was Vladimir Putin. The future president trained under Rakhlin for more than 10 years and later acknowledged that Rakhlin likely played a decisive role in his life.
In May 2013, Putin awarded his coach the Order of Honor and presented him with a personalized watch bearing serial number 75. Anatoly Rakhlin passed away in August of the same year at the age of 75. His son, Mikhail Rakhlin, a holder of the 6th dan in judo, has been coaching since 1996 and has served as head coach of Saint Petersburg’s teams since 2008. Over his career, he has trained around fifty Masters of Sport, including four of international class.

Forwarded from Russian Embassy in India
Key theses:
#RussiaIndia #DruzhbaDosti
The contacts between the leaders of our countries are regular and intensive. The coordination of our approaches to many topical issues of international politics has been very close. I am very optimistic about the future and the ongoing projects in our bilateral relations.
#MiddleEast
The implications of the conflict have been severe for the entire world. Russia has condemned the US and Israeli actions against Iran. I guess the Gulf countries have become disillusioned with the US and the security guarantees that were promised to them. The energy and fertilizer markets have been jeopardized.
#Oil
Our oil supplies to India have substantially increased. The anti-Russia sanctions imposed by the US and the European Union are illegal in nature; India does not recognize them. We have always stated that we are prepared to supply as much oil as India is prepared to absorb.
#Defence
Russia offers extensive transfer of technology and very favorable conditions. It is not only sales; it is a long-term technological partnership. We have a comprehensive program of defence cooperation.
#Tourism
Russia is an attractive destination to visit, and last year, in 2025, we saw the largest number of Indian tourists on our Arctic coast. There has been a consistent increase in both Indian tourists to Russia and Russian tourists to India. We have proposed a visa-free agreement between the two countries for groups of tourists.

Mali, Wagner, gold, jihad
Since 2021, the PMC Wagner Group - currently Russian state-controlled "Africa Corps", work in Mali as guards and co-owners of the gold mines in Mali. There are about 2.500 of them in Mali, minus the losses from that one ambush organized by the jihadists with a help of the CIA, MI6, and even Ukrainian SBU (it's a long story).
Mali mines around 60 to 70 tons of gold every year, which translates in a few billions of dollars from the trade and taxes. The government of Mali spends some of the profit on the citizens of Mali via social programs. The local jihadists control their own gold mines, and they want more.
The jihadists are attacking Mali directly, doing sieges this time instead of raids. And Mali relies heavily on Africa Corps to survive - the Africa Corps is doing the heavy lifting - air support and armored vehicles, all that jazz. And while Africa Corps benefits from the Mali gold - they at least are willing to die for the country. Quite noble, eh?

⚡️ Russia's Ministry of Defence:
On April 25, 2026, at around 5:30 am, illegal armed groups of Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and the Azawad Liberation Front, under common command and coordination, attempted to carry out an armed coup d’état in the Republic of Mali.
Four major populated areas were attacked simultaneously – Bamako, the capital of the Republic of Mali, as well as the cities of Sevare, Gao and Kidal.
The militant groups numbered approximately 12,000 people. Their training was conducted with the participation of Ukrainian and European mercenary instructors, who used, among other things, Western-made Stinger and Mistral MANPADS.
In Bamako, attempts were made to seize key facilities, above all the presidential palace. The Defence Minister was killed when a suicide vehicle-borne explosive device was detonated near his residence.
Units of the African Corps of the Russian Armed Forces engaged superior enemy forces in fierce fighting, inflicting irrecoverable losses in manpower and equipment on the militants and forcing them to abandon their plans.
❗️ Units of the African Corps prevented a coup d’état, preserved the authority of the legitimate government and helped avert mass civilian casualties.
***
Four Inokhodets UAV airstrikes were carried out against advancing reserves and concentrations of enemy manpower. The strikes destroyed up to 60 militants, 4 pickup trucks and 5 motorcycles.
Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopter crews conducted 21 combat sorties under enemy fire, striking concentrations of enemy manpower and equipment. More than 175 militants, 23 vehicles, 1 suicide vehicle-borne explosive device and 33 motorcycles were destroyed.
Su-24 aircraft crews conducted 6 combat sorties, delivering 8 strikes against concentrations of enemy manpower and equipment. More than 70 militants, 2 armoured vehicles and 25 vehicles were destroyed.
Medical specialists of the African Corps are providing assistance to wounded and injured civilians, including by performing complex surgical operations.
In repelling the terrorist attack, African Corps servicemen used all types of weapons: tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers, artillery and mortar systems, as well as multiple launch rocket systems. Soldiers and officers repeatedly had to engage in close-quarters small-arms combat.
During the hostilities, enemy losses amounted to:
• more than 2,500 personnel;
• 102 vehicles;
• 2 suicide vehicle-borne explosive devices;
• 152 motorcycles;
• 7 mortars.
During the period of active hostilities:
The African Corps detachment stationed in Kidal fought for more than 24 hours while fully encircled by a vastly superior grouping of illegal armed formations and repelled four massive attacks on the main strongpoint and outer defence posts. At present, by decision of the leadership of the Republic of Mali, servicemen of the Malian Armed Forces and the African Corps have left the strongpoint in the city of Kidal.
☝️The enemy has not abandoned its aggressive intentions and is regrouping. The situation in the Republic of Mali remains difficult.
Units of the African Corps of the Russian Armed Forces continue to carry out their assigned tasks and remain ready to repel militant attacks, conducting active reconnaissance and destroying identified field camps of illegal armed formations and detected targets.
