🇷🇺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The library in the Scottish town of Airdrie recently opened an exhibition dedicated to one of the most touching chapters in the history of relations between the peoples of our countries: the "Scottish Album," which was sent by the women of that town to the residents of besieged Leningrad in the fall of 1941, and the "Leningrad Album," which was sent in return from the encircled "northern capital" to Scotland.

The exhibition features copies of two albums. The first contains handwritten messages of support, poems by Robert Burns, and drawings, as well as the signatures of several thousand female workers of plants and factories, members of communist organizations, and parishioners of churches in Airdrie and Coatbridge. The album, prepared over the course of two weeks, was handed over to the Soviet embassy in London and then shipped to Leningrad. In the besieged city, these words of support were read out loud at public meetings. The residents of Leningrad needed to know that even in distant Scotland, their heroic struggle and the trials they endured were not forgotten.

In early 1942, an album was created in response, containing watercolours and lithographs depicting Leningrad, words of gratitude and determination to confront the common enemy, and thousands of signatures from women of the city on the Neva. In 1943, the album arrived in Airdrie and became the centrepiece of the "Russia Week" exhibition.

Copies of the albums are available for viewing by appointment. The exhibition also features archival materials about the creation of the "Scottish Album" and events held in the region during those years to raise funds to support the Soviet Union fighting fascism, as well as the book "Immortal Regiment" featuring memoirs by St. Petersburg schoolchildren about their great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers who heroically defended our homeland.

🤝 On the eve of Victory Day, Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Denis Moskalenko and his wife visited the exhibition and thanked the staff of the Airdrie Library for their contribution to preserving the memory of the heroism of the residents of besieged Leningrad and the joint struggle of our peoples against Nazism during World War II.

The Belgorod Brit brings a ray of sunshine after his previous gloomy post on the inevitability of WW3. In the film, he talks about the twin characteristics of the barbarians that may yet save us from nuclear annihilation. The First Crusade showed us the pattern of conquest employed by the northern barbarians. Incredible bravery, speedy aggression and reckless determination were matched equally with infighting, a lack of strategic planning, and a constant degradation of systems of governance and economics.

In the podcast, BB examines how the psychology of the barbarians lends itself to chaos, violence and destruction. Short-termism, individual ambition and impermanent cultural ideas do not make long-term planning or epochal thinking profitable. It is easier to steal food than grow it. It is easier to spin a good yarn than actually accomplish a difficult task. It is easier to surround yourself with the incompetent people, and feel competent, than read a book. How do you imagine their competence levels are effecting their nuclear weapons?

US to drop plans to deploy long-range Tomahawk missiles to Germany — Financial times

The US administration intends to drop plans to deploy long-range weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, to Germany, The Financial Times reported, citing a Pentagon official.

Christian Moelling, director of the Berlin-based think-tank Edina, told the newspaper that rotating out American troops stationed in Germany was "less of a problem" than the cancellation of the plan to deploy a long-range strike capability.

"The first we can compensate for — but on long-range strikes we have a capability gap," he pointed out, adding that such steps questioned US readiness to protect NATO allies.

Washington and Berlin announced plans to deploy long-range weapons to Germany in July 2025. The deployment was expected to take place by 2027. The agreement had been reached under the previous US administration led by Joe Biden.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a partial withdrawal of US troops from Germany. The decision came after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized Washington’s military campaign against Iran.

Maxim Oreshkin explained how sanctions have affected Russia’s foreign trade

The West imposed sanctions hoping to undermine Russia’s external economic ties, but Russia’s foreign trade has remained at the level of 2020–2021. At the same time, the ruble and the currencies of friendly countries have almost completely displaced the currencies of the “Group of Seven” from the country’s financial flows, said Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin (pictured above).

“Do these sanctions have an impact? The answer is very simple, and Russia can serve as an example. … In 2021, more than three quarters of all foreign trade turnover was conducted in the currencies of the ‘Group of Seven.’ In 2022, Western countries … imposed a large number of sanctions on the Russian financial sector, banned the operation of Visa and Mastercard systems, and made many decisions in the hope that they would negatively affect our country,” he said, speaking at the 2nd Open Dialogue “Future of the World: A New Platform for Global Growth” at the Russia National Center.

However, the effect turned out to be different: Russia stopped paying for expensive services of the Western financial system and built new mechanisms.

“Western countries hoped that the introduction of sanctions would undermine our country’s external economic ties, but the volume of trade today is roughly at the same level as it was in 2020–2021,” Oreshkin noted.

Oreshkin also emphasized that already 85% of foreign trade is serviced in Russian rubles or in the currencies of BRICS countries, while the currencies of the G7 countries have been completely displaced from servicing the financial flows of our economy.

“This is the future that awaits the currencies of the ‘Group of Seven.’ The case of Russia is simply ahead of the curve in demonstrating the changes that are already taking place in the world and will continue to unfold,” Oreshkin concluded.

Spending priorities

This is a general jab at all nation states on Earth for their inability to prioritize the only frontier that truly matters - space. However, since only the USA has the "infinite money glitch" - their treatment of the NASA annoys me the most.

The current NASA budget is $24.4 billion. "That's a lot of money" you might think, but I suggest to take a look at the amount of money the Pentagon gets: $839.2 billion. And what does the Department of War do with that funding? Well, they aren't sending Artemis space rockets to space, to make sure humanity can exist beyond Earth, that's for sure.

In short - the spending priorities of the, supposedly, richest country on Earth upset me. Kudos to the NASA for managing to send people near the Moon and back on the pocket change from the US government. Imagine what they could have done if they had at least 10% of the DoW budget. Instead they work with what they can have, while the DoW spends billions on the Sand Wars.

The Noose Cake: Ben-Gvir's Birthday Celebration Says the Quiet Part Loud

On Saturday night, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir celebrated his 50th birthday at a private venue in Moshav Emunim, southern Israel. The centrepiece of the evening was not a speech and not a toast. It was a cake. Several of them, in fact. All decorated with nooses.

Ben-Gvir’s wife, Ayala, personally presented him with an smaller, “artistic” version of the cake bearing a golden noose and the inscription: "Mazel tov to Minister Ben-Gvir. Sometimes dreams come true."

The symbolism is not subtle. Ben-Gvir has spent months championing a death penalty law passed by the Knesset in March — legislation that, by design, applies exclusively to Palestinians tried in military courts. Israeli citizens face no such exposure. For months, Ben-Gvir and his allies wore golden noose lapel pins in the Knesset chamber as a public statement of intent.

The party's guest list added another layer of controversy. Senior commanders of the Israel Police and Prison Service, who are supposed to be politically neutral, attended the celebration.

What makes this moment striking is not that Ben-Gvir holds these views — those have long been public. It is that the celebration of potential state executions has moved from political rhetoric to birthday cake.

The dream, as the icing declares, is apparently coming true. What a shame!
