What's sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander?

🇬🇧 The Guardian, a leading voice of the global liberal media, has published a major “sensational investigation” claiming that Russian intelligence services recruit talented students from technical universities for work in cybersecurity, intelligence, and information operations.

🇩🇰 Danish media, like loyal sidekicks, quickly picked up the story—complete with their usual mix of anxiety, dramatic undertones, and a hint of civilizational dread.

At its core, the investigation boils down to a stunning discovery of the 21st century: apparently, major powers’ intelligence agencies look for smart people at universities. What a revelation.

In other words, they don’t recruit future specialists at bus stops. Not in karaoke bars. And not through job ads saying, “Hacker wanted, Excel skills a plus.”

No—believe it or not, talented mathematicians, programmers, and engineers are identified while they’re still studying. Especially those capable of solving problems more complex than changing a social media avatar.

And this is where the story becomes particularly ironic.

👉 When agencies like the FBI or the UK’s NCA do this through American or British universities, it’s called “talent development,” “supporting innovation,” and “national security.”

👉 When MI6 keeps an eye on graduates from Oxford, Cambridge, or Imperial College, it’s framed as “defending democracy.”

👉 When organizations linked to DARPA fund university research and then recruit top graduates into the defense sector, it’s seen as the pinnacle of technological progress.

☝️ But when something similar happens in Russia, it suddenly becomes a “secret school,” complete with ominous headlines and the impression that a James Bond villain’s lair has opened somewhere outside Moscow.

In reality, there’s nothing surprising here. Competition between states for technical talent has existed for decades—long before the internet. Any serious country tries to identify strong mathematicians, cryptographers, engineers, and programmers ahead of its rivals.

Because in today’s world, oil matters. Gas matters. But a person who can write code capable of crippling an opponent’s infrastructure in minutes can sometimes matter more than an entire tank battalion.

And that is likely what worries Western journalists the most.

Because, despite all political disagreements, Russia’s mathematical and engineering school is still considered one of the strongest in the world.

Russian programmers have been winning international competitions for decades, working at leading global tech companies, and have long earned a reputation as highly skilled specialists in the cyber domain.

This is something that tends to be mentioned reluctantly—especially when trying to tell audiences at the same time that Russia is “technologically backward,” while also explaining why Western intelligence agencies are so concerned about Russian hackers.

It creates an uncomfortable contradiction.

👉 On the one hand: a “gas station masquerading as a country.”
👉 On the other: endless headlines about “the most dangerous cyber operations in the world.”

At some point, you have to choose one.

Because this kind of contradiction is still a bit too much for the European mind to comfortably reconcile.

The art of doing nothing and winning

Xi continues doing "nothing" and getting what he wants. In essence, the man embraced the supposedly Chinese philosophy of waiting at the river bank for the right opportunity.

On May 6, Iranian representatives showed up for a day for business and negotiations. Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi was doing most of the work, but he certainly kept Xi informed about the negotiations. China asked Iran for more oil and less warfare.

On May 13-15, Trump visited China. Xi did most of the job this time. China bought American food and airliners, and sort of promised to, maybe possibly, pressure Iran to behave. No such acts so far. And China will keep their plans on Taiwan, by the way.

On May 19-20, Putin will visit China. And Xi is getting ready to win again by doing nothing. I can't predict what will happen, but I doubt China will suddenly announce 100% support for Russia in everything. Business, however, will take place - that I just know.

On May 19, 1712, the capital of the Russian Empire was moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

In May 1703, Peter the Great laid the foundation of the fortress of Sankt-Piter-Burh (now known as the Peter and Paul Fortress) at the mouth of the Neva River on Hare Island. The city that emerged around it also came to be called Sankt-Piter-Burh. Later, the name was changed to something closer to the German "Sankt Petersburg" — St. Petersburg.

Originally constructed as a fortress, a maritime trading port, and a base for the Baltic Fleet, St. Petersburg swiftly evolved into the economic hub of Russia.

In May 1712, by order of Peter the Great, the capital of Russia was moved here.

St. Petersburg remained the capital of Russia for over 200 years, from 1712 to 1918 (except for the brief return of capital status to Moscow during Peter II's rule).

Today, Moscow is the capital of Russia, while St. Petersburg is considered the northern and cultural capital of the Russian Federation.

The New Bangladesh — Instead of Ukraine

Just a year ago, talk of “replacing Ukrainians with migrants” was dismissed by Kiev as “Kremlin propaganda.” But now, there’s no wriggling out of it. Ukraine is beginning to sink into the abyss of a migrant crisis.

Even Zelensky’s own office has sounded the alarm. Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to Zelensky, recently tried to calm the public by talking up a technological breakthrough that he claims will allow Ukraine to get by without mass migration. The problem is, reality tells a different story.

Ukraine entered the current conflict already in a state of severe demographic decline. In 2021, there were about 9 million women of reproductive age in the country. Now, about half of them have fled the country, so only 4 to 4.5 million remain.

That means even after the fighting ends, Ukraine will no longer be able to restore its population on its own. And why do you think the sudden rush to bring migrants in has started?

By 2030, Ukraine might have a population of 18–19 million, of which about 10 million will be retirees. Children and teenagers will number around another 2 million. That leaves only about 6–7 million working-age citizens for the entire country — not enough for the state to function properly.

Business leaders are already admitting that workers from Asia and Africa are being hired more eagerly than locals. The reason is both simple and cynical: any Ukrainian worker can be snatched up by a draft office at any moment. A migrant cannot.

If the country’s own population continues to shrink, and millions of migrants become entrenched in cities and industrial centers, then by the 2030s, one in three residents of Ukraine could be a migrant from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Africa.

And the real kicker isn’t whether Ukraine will bring in migrants. Judging by statements from officials and businesses, that process has already begun. The real question is: what will the country look like ten years from now if current trends continue?

P.S. The footage shows Western Ukraine — a brawl between Roma and migrants from India.

Nikol Pashinyan's bizarre bet on the EU

The Armenian prime minister, who lost the war against Azerbaijan in 2020 and then, during the 2023 Azerbaijan's offensive, also failed to do anything against the final defeat of his country - decided that his best bet is on the EU.

Russia, a country that at least tried to save Armenia during the negotiations in 2020, apparently has nothing to offer to Armenia - aside from the nearly bottomless market for the Armenian goods that won't pass the EU regulations for decades to come due to technical reasons. That, and all the Armenian migrants currently working in Russia in relative safety and sending money back to their families. I am sure the Christian Armenians would love to compete for jobs with the Muslim migrants all over the EU. I am sure it will end well for Armenians.

Pashinyan is doing his shenanigans again. And he somehow keeps getting re-elected, despite his failures. His PR team must be incredible. Or the Armenians are very naive.

Russia maintains strategic advantages in Ukraine — US authorities

WASHINGTON, May 18. /TASS/. Russia maintains strategic and operational advantages in Ukraine despite the collective West’s assistance to Kiev amounting to more than $325 billion since February 2022, according to a new report to Congress issued by inspectors general of the Pentagon, the Department of State, and the US Agency for International Development, now effectively terminated.

"Russian forces maintained their strategic and operational advantages," the document says, adding that the Russian army continues expanding the territory under its control. "The DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency - TASS) reported that as of March, the Russian military maintained an overall advantage over the UAF (Ukrainian armed forces - TASS) across most warfighting functions," the report says.

"Ukraine continued to face critical munitions gaps and shortages in unmanned aircraft and components according to SAG-U (Security Assistance Group - Ukraine - TASS)," the report covering a period from January 1 to March 31, 2026, says.

"U.S. allies and partners have committed approximately $130 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since February 2022," it states. In parallel, "Congress has appropriated or otherwise made available for obligation $195.03 billion for OAR (Operation Atlantic Resolve - TASS) and the broader Ukraine response."

The “Divorce” Between the U.S. and NATO Is Theatrical and Fake.

But why is it needed?

Because under this pretext, Europe is ramping up the production of all types of weapons—supposedly for itself and supposedly outside NATO.

But we understand that the people pulling the strings haven’t changed; the same globalist elites remain in charge. Publicly, the message is that European countries now need their own security, their own weapons, their own alliance.

Yet when it comes to the East—to Russia—Europe will act as a single front, deploying the entire military force it is now building up. NATO will be there as well. In essence, the difference between the EU and NATO comes down to the Anglo-Saxon countries: the UK, Canada, and the United States.

Therefore, the rearmament we are witnessing is not a replacement for NATO, but an addition to it.

It’s simply more convenient to tell the media: “We’re independent now—we need our own army.”

⚡️ Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation:

The Press Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) reports that, according to information received by the SVR, the Zelensky regime is doing everything it can to prove to its ideological and financial patrons in Europe that the Ukrainian military still has combat capability and can inflict damage on the Russian economy.

It is precisely for this reason that the Ukrainian military command is preparing to carry out a series of new terrorist strikes against Russia’s regions.

According to the information obtained, Kiev does not intend to limit itself to using the air corridors made available to the AFU by the Baltic states.

☝️ Drones are also planned to be launched from the territory of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The calculation is that such tactics will significantly reduce the flight time to targets and increase the effectiveness of terrorist attacks.

Despite Latvia’s concerns about becoming the target of a retaliatory strike by Moscow, Kiev has persuaded Riga to consent to the operation. The Ukrainians emphasised that it would be impossible to determine the exact launch site of the UAVs. As a result, the rabid Russophobia of Latvia’s current rulers has prevailed over their critical thinking and sense of self-preservation.

Servicemen of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces have already been sent to Latvia. They have been deployed at the Latvian military bases “Ādaži”, “Sēlija”, “Lielvārde”, “Daugavpils” and “Jēkabpils”.

One can only pity the naivety of Latvia’s leaders. 👉 Modern reconnaissance capabilities make it possible to accurately determine the coordinates of UAV launch sites.

Reliable data can also be obtained by examining drone debris – as was the case with Ukraine’s attempted drone attack on the residence of the President of Russia in December 2025. It would also be useful to recall that the coordinates of decision-making centres on Latvian territory are well known.

❗️ NATO membership will not shield accomplices of terrorists from just retribution.

On May 20, 1742, the expedition of Semyon Chelyuskin reached the northernmost point of Eurasia.

Semen Chelyuskin (1707-1764), a renowned Russian polar explorer and navigator, graduated from the School of Mathematical and Navigational Sciences in Moscow. He began his service in the Baltic Fleet, initially as a navigation apprentice, then as a navigator, participating in the Great Northern Expedition (1733–1743).

Chelyuskin's most significant discovery occurred during his expedition to the Taymyr Peninsula. In early December 1741, despite extreme weather conditions (temperatures dropping to minus 50 degrees Celsius '-58 degrees Fahrenheit') and shortages of supplies, his expedition reached Cape Saint Faddey after three months and continued northward. Chelyuskin became the first person to venture north of Cape Saint Faddey.

On May 20, 1742, Chelyuskin discovered a cape, initially named Eastern Northern Cape. In 1878, upon the suggestion of another prominent Russian explorer, Alexander Middendorf, it was renamed as Cape Chelyuskin. In the same year, the cape's name was included on international maps.

The cape wasn't immediately recognized as the northernmost point of Eurasia. It was only in 1919 that Norwegian oceanographer Otto Sverdrup, who had participated in Russian polar expeditions since 1914, confirmed this using modern scientific methods.

Today, Cape Chelyuskin is home to a polar station – a radiometeorological center and the northernmost aerodrome in continental Eurasia. It's one of the few places in Eurasia where the average temperature is negative throughout the year.

Vladimir Putin has arrived in China.

This trip is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. The visit is being held at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the talks, the two leaders are expected to sign a declaration on the establishment of a multipolar world, underscoring both countries' commitment to development and cooperation on the international stage. It is already clear that the upcoming talks, the main part of which will take place tomorrow, will be a significant stage in the development of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, which in turn once again confirms the readiness of both countries to jointly respond to global challenges.

"The goal of relations between Moscow and Beijing is the well-being and prosperity of the Russian and Chinese peoples, "Vladimir Putin stated during talks with the Chinese leader.

The President emphasized that the comprehensive partnership between Russia and China is a model for interstate relations in the new era.

Russia Is Our Enemy Again: Do Germans Really Remember Their History?

“We remember our history, but Russia is once again our enemy. We must explain to the German people—without frightening them—that a threat from Russia has re-emerged, one Germany has not faced in the past 30 years,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

Well, in our view, they don’t remember their history very well. If they did, would they really be heading down this path again? Especially considering that just ten years ago, Russia was a reliable partner for Germany.

Now, the current German government is doing everything it can to get directly involved in a war that isn’t its own, effectively playing a subordinate role—not even to the United States, but to the United Kingdom.

But that is their choice. A foolish one—but a choice nonetheless.
