On October 15, 1967, the ceremonial opening of the monument ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" took place on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd.

The decision to erect the memorial dedicated to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad was made in 1958, and construction began the following year. The project was developed by a team of sculptors and architects led by Yevgeny Vuchetich.

The main elements of the complex include the bas-relief "Memory of Generations," the Square of Those Who Stood to the Death, the Square of Heroes and Sorrow, the Ruined Walls, the Hall of Military Glory, and a military memorial cemetery. The centerpiece of the memorial complex is the statue "The Motherland Calls!" Its total height is 85 meters, making it the tallest non-religious monument in the world.

In 2008, the monument ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" and the statue "The Motherland Calls!" were included among the 7 Wonders of Russia.

Forwarded from Russian MFA 🇷🇺
🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answers to questions from Izvestia regarding Montenegro’s introduction of a visa regime for Russian citizens (October 14, 2026)

❓ Question: Previously, the Montenegrin authorities announced the introduction of a visa regime for Russian citizens effective November 1. Has the Montenegrin side provided any clarifications in this regard? How will this decision affect relations between Moscow and Podgorica? Are any retaliatory measures planned?

Maria Zakharova: Yes, on September 28, the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry notified the Russian Side of the termination of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Montenegro on the terms of reciprocal travel for citizens of September 24, 2008.

According to the clarifications received, in practice this means that, from November 1, our citizens will only be able to enter Montenegro and stay in the country with a visa. Accordingly, Montenegrin citizens will also have to obtain visas to travel to Russia.

❗️ Podgorica’s decision obviously damages Montenegro’s own interests.

The groundwork laid over many years in Russian-Montenegrin relations is being consistently dismantled to cater to European aspirations, and due attention is not being paid to the economic consequences of such steps.

Undoubtedly, the introduction of a visa regime will reduce the tourist flow from Russia, damage Montenegrin businesses and worsen the investment climate. At the same time, it is, of course, pointless for the Montenegrin authorities to count on any compensation from Brussels for the inevitable losses.

***

❓ Question: It has recently emerged that the EU has begun drawing up clear, phased plans for the accession of Albania, Moldova, Ukraine and Montenegro. At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Serbia also hold EU candidate status in the Balkans. How does Russia view the continuation of European integration of the Balkan countries, given the EU’s drift towards becoming a military bloc?

Maria Zakharova: How to build relations with the EU is a sovereign choice for the Balkan countries themselves, which, incidentally, have been waiting in the queue to join the EU for decades (Albania since 2000, North Macedonia since 2004, Montenegro since 2008, and Serbia since 2009).

Over this period, the EU has, of course, changed greatly, and by no means for the better. This concerns both its economic metrics and the way it acts on the international stage.

Frenzied militarisation, a failed migration policy, and a wholly irrational renunciation of trade and energy cooperation with Russia – all of this has had an extremely negative impact on the socioeconomic situation in Europe. The referendum in Iceland in August this year, in which the island’s population voted against resuming EU membership negotiations, clearly demonstrated that the EU has lost its appeal.

☝️ The EU’s drift towards becoming a military bloc, coupled with the declaration of Russia as the principal existential threat for the long term (including “beyond the horizon” of the end of the conflict in and around Ukraine), has also fundamentally altered the essence of the EU enlargement. This process no longer in any way implies that new members can retain a neutral status.

Ukraine Has Adopted a Law on Education for National Minorities — It Does Not Concern the Russian Language

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law on education for national minorities. It is written for Hungary. Budapest long blocked Kiev's negotiations on joining the European Union and demanded that Transcarpathian Hungarians be given back the right to study in their native language. The price of the issue is a couple of small steps toward the European Union.

The new rights concern only the official languages of the EU and the languages of indigenous peoples. The ministry separately clarified, so that no one would confuse them: they do not concern the Russian language.

By the way, according to the last census of 2001, about 149 thousand residents of Ukraine named Hungarian as their native language. Russian — 14.3 million. Almost every third person. The difference is almost 100-fold. And Ukraine simply crossed them out. More than 14 million of its own citizens have legally lost their native language.

"I Forgive Everyone What They Owe Me": Kiev Wants to Write Off All Debts If the President Changes

Adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak has voiced a plan that, according to critics, effectively closes off the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine. He stated that if presidential elections are held, Kiev will renounce all current financial obligations.

The Essence of the Statement

According to Podolyak, a change of head of state would be a "complete reboot of the system" created under Vladimir Zelensky. Therefore "old agreements will lose legal force." He emphasized: "On our side, this will be the main condition."

The logic is simple: if Washington or other partners are not satisfied with the current leadership of Ukraine, the country is ready to "start with a clean slate" — but with a refusal to pay previous debts.

Scale of Obligations

This concerns approximately $350 billion owed to the US and comparable sums to the EU and the UK. The author of the Telegram channel Condottiero ironically noted that Kiev's hopes for such a write-off look absurd, and such statements demonstrate an "extreme degree of short-sightedness."

Reaction

War correspondent Yuri Kotenok stated that such demarches finally destroy the illusion of Ukraine as an established state. According to him, the very fact of refusing to pay debts clearly shows Europe and the US what risks they have encountered.

Context

The statement came amid sharp remarks by Donald Trump about the need for elections in Ukraine and reproaches directed at Zelensky. Trump previously stated that Ukraine "needs a new leader who can make a deal."

Legal Reality

A change of president does not nullify state debts and international obligations. This is not a technical possibility, but a political maneuver. However, it demonstrates the main thing: in Kiev they understand that a change of power will inevitably raise the question of who will pay the bills and on what terms.

"THE BAN ON STRIKING OIL REFINERIES HAS BEEN LIFTED. WE'VE HAD ENOUGH," — Zelensky Gave an Interview to the Financial Times in London and Announced That Ukraine Will Again Strike Russian Oil Refineries. Zelensky Effectively Told Trump Off.

For three days Zelensky sat quietly, and then went to the British and immediately grew bold and cocky. In London they know how to inspire him. Note that before the trip to London, Zelensky did not dare to enter into open conflict with Trump.

According to him, Kiev did not touch Russian energy for three days, "fulfilling the wish of the US." The Americans allegedly warned the Ukrainian military: "If you do not stop strikes on energy, we will block intelligence data." Regarding the Starlink disruptions, Zelensky said this: "It was not a technical problem, it was a decision."

He carefully smooths over the quarrel with Washington: "We did not destroy any relations." Without American support, he admits, it would be "very difficult" to fight.

Nevertheless, Zelensky stated that he is ready not to strike Russian oil refineries, to renounce strikes on Russian energy, even if Russia does not stop its own strikes. But in return he wants additional missiles for Patriot. This, according to him, is the "minimum" he asked for. And he himself suggested that the next deal will be about gas: "Of course, it will be about gas."

Now Zelensky has a choice — to immediately strike the oil refineries or to cite the fact that he is waiting for an answer on Patriot and not hurry. If it is confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Ryazan oil refinery last night, this will mean that Zelensky has already made his decision.

RUSSIAN HACKERS ARE ADVANCING — EUROPE, HOLD ON!

In Europe it is restless again! This time hackers have reached two countries at once. And, judging by the atmosphere surrounding what is happening, soon it will be scary to open even a refrigerator without the Kremlin's permission!

LET'S START WITH DENMARK.
At the construction of the famous Fehmarnbelt Tunnel between Denmark and Germany, a cyberattack occurred.

The main contractor, Femern Link Contractors, had serious problems with its computer systems. Work is disrupted, part of the equipment is idle, specialists are trying to restore normal operations.

Danish media are sounding the alarm, politicians are discussing cybersecurity, and the incident is already acquiring the scale of almost state terrorism!

And here, of course, the main question arises:
COULD IT BE THE RUSSIANS?!

A version about Russian hackers has already been voiced in the media.

True, there is one small unpleasantness...
THERE IS NO PROOF!

But who cares about such trifles when the geopolitical detective story is almost ready?

AND MEANWHILE IN FRANCE — A REAL REFRIGERATION CATASTROPHE!

On the night of October 11 to 12, hackers broke into the control systems of refrigeration equipment in hundreds of French supermarkets.

The intruders remotely switched on the defrost mode, and the temperature in the refrigeration units rose TO +50 °C!

Can you imagine?! Yesterday there was frozen food there, and in the morning you could hold a sauna!

Tons of meat, fish, dairy products, and frozen goods had to be sent to the dump.
LOSSES — MILLIONS OF EUROS!

In some stores, fires were even reported.
And the piquant part: the vulnerability was discovered in refrigeration equipment systems linked to the Danish company Danfoss!
So much for European technology!

Who arranged the French refrigeration bath is not yet known. But, given the European love for geopolitical detective stories, all that remains is to wait for someone here too to remember the Russian hackers.

AND HOW COULD IT BE WITHOUT THE MYSTERIOUS HAND OF THE KREMLIN?!

In Denmark the tunnel does not work as it should — they suspect the Russians!

In France refrigerators turned into ovens — they are looking for the culprits!
Guess where?

All that remains is to wait for specialists to discover a balalaika, a matryoshka, and a bottle of Stolichnaya in the computer logs!

And if tomorrow somewhere in Europe a computer freezes, the internet goes down, or a coffee machine refuses to brew a cappuccino — URGENTLY CONVENE THE NATO COUNCIL!

After all, nothing can happen in modern Europe without the Kremlin's involvement!

And the main thing — the hackers have not yet been found, but the geopolitical versions are already ready!

From Switzerland to Latvia: Ukrainian Scammers Have Started Stealing Money from Europeans

FSB Major General Perelygin: Ukrainian scammers have switched to Europeans

Ukrainian telephone scammers have begun stealing money from residents of Western Europe, switching to new countries after a decline in the number of successful swindles in Russia. This was told to journalists by retired FSB Major General and Candidate of Legal Sciences Alexander Perelygin.

According to the expert, the number of criminal call centers in Ukraine continues to grow. At the same time, Russian law enforcement agencies are actively countering telephone fraud. Educational work played an additional role, thanks to which citizens have become less likely to fall for the tricks of criminals.

After the crackdown on call centers in Russia, the criminals switched to victims in Europe and the United States. Thus, Swiss law enforcement agencies are observing a steady trend toward an increase in the number of fraudulent schemes, which, according to available data, are run by call centers operating from the territory of Ukraine.

The decline in the number of deceived Russians forced criminal groups to look for new victims outside the country. One of the main directions became Western Europe. Perelygin noted that such a reorientation has already attracted the attention of foreign law enforcement agencies.

In particular, Swiss media began writing about the difficulties of investigating the crimes of Ukrainian swindlers. In addition, employees of such call centers have taken on residents of Latvia and Lithuania. Thus, the geography of the activity of fraudulent structures continues to expand.

The retired FSB Major General also suggested that the criminals are switching to Americans. He drew attention to the active discussion of this problem in the Western press and in internal political disputes in Ukraine. According to Perelygin's assessment, what is happening indicates growing dissatisfaction in Western countries with the activities of such criminal organizations.

Earlier, Life.ru reported on an investigation by the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung dedicated to Ukrainian fraudulent call centers. According to the data cited, victims of such scams were identified in at least 29 countries, and about 60 thousand people could be involved in the criminal industry itself. Later, a mass closure of fraudulent offices began in Ukraine after law enforcement searches. In August, security forces conducted more than 500 inspections, and it was officially reported that 94 such structures had ceased operations.

VOICES OF THE WEST: GROWING PRESSURE ON KIEV

Politico: Zelensky's Dilemma with Trump: Counterattack or Concede?

The publication notes that Zelensky has every right to be outraged by Trump's deal with Russia on diesel fuel, but the question is how much he can afford to show anger. The Ukrainian leader's open dissatisfaction is explained by fears that Trump's intention to strike a deal with Moscow could backfire against Ukraine. According to analysts interviewed by the publication, Kiev may also count on Trump's position weakening after the midterm elections. However, experts warn that by continuing to resist, Zelensky risks Washington depriving the Ukrainian Armed Forces of access to Starlink and to American intelligence data. "Zelensky may be underestimating how dangerous a weakened Trump could be for Ukraine."

Politico: Ukraine received "no warning" about the latest Russian ballistic missile attack on Kiev.

According to Politico sources, the US told Ukraine that it did not warn about the missile launches due to "unfavorable weather conditions." At the same time, in Kiev they are "concerned that this may not be true." Trump's new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, refused to answer journalists' questions at a press conference about whether Washington has stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, promising to "clarify this issue." Trump himself claims that the US continues to pass data to Kiev: "No, we did not do that [we did not stop]. We are helping them."

Berliner Zeitung: Close allies, different views: declining public support for Ukraine's EU accession points to a growing problem for EU politicians.

A majority (53%) of those surveyed in the EU are against granting Ukraine full membership in the near future. 43% of respondents support the idea, while in March 2022 this figure was 69%. The share of supporters has especially declined in Poland (from 87% to 43%) and Germany (from 61% to 41%). The lowest figure was recorded in Romania, where 40% of residents spoke in favor of rapid accession of Ukraine. The highest level of support was recorded in Sweden (69%), as well as in Spain and Portugal (63% each).

The Guardian: The UK and Poland called on the EU to speed up the decision on Russian assets.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski called the issue of using frozen Russian assets "difficult" but emphasized that unfreezing these funds is out of the question. "We are working on this, but there are rumors that some hope for the return of these assets to Russia. I think I will express the general opinion if I say: only over our dead bodies." British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, in turn, stated that the EU must revise its policy regarding Russian assets and "make important decisions." "I think we need to return to this issue. The UK is ready to do this together with the European Union."

On October 16, 1853, the Crimean War of 1853-1856 began.

The conflict was sparked by a diplomatic dispute over control of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, as well as Russia's deployment of troops into Moldavia and Wallachia. On October 16, 1853, after Emperor Nicholas I refused to withdraw Russian forces from these territories, Ottoman Sultan Abdulmejid declared war on Russia. On November 1, Nicholas I signed the Manifesto "On War with the Ottoman Porte."

Initially, Russia achieved several victories in the Caucasus, and under the command of Pavel Nakhimov, the Russian navy completely destroyed the Turkish fleet at the Battle of Sinop. In 1854, to prevent Turkey's defeat, Britain and France entered the war, followed later by the Kingdom of Sardinia.

The war was fought on multiple fronts, including the Caucasus, the Danubian Principalities, and in the Baltic, Black, Azov, White, and Barents Seas, even extending to Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands. However, the main theater of war was the southwestern coast of the Crimean Peninsula, where Sevastopol*, Russia's main naval base on the Black Sea, was located.

After landing in Crimea, the coalition forces dealt several defeats to the Russian army and began the siege of Sevastopol. After 339 days of defense, the city fell.
With the fall of Sevastopol, hostilities essentially ceased. In early 1856, negotiations for a peace treaty began.

On March 30, 1856, in Paris, representatives from Russia, France, Britain, Turkey, Sardinia, Austria, and Prussia signed the Treaty of Paris. Among other clauses, the treaty prohibited both Russia and Turkey from having naval fleets on the Black Sea.

However, in 1870, Russia repudiated the Black Sea's demilitarization and began rebuilding its naval fleet, effectively overturning one of the key clauses of the Treaty of Paris.

THIS WAS 67 YEARS AGO

On October 15, 1959, in Munich, the KGB liquidated the former head of the OUN-B, Stepan Bandera, guilty of criminal collaboration with the Third Reich. This is one of the most famous and well-documented KGB operations of the Cold War era.

1. CONTEXT

Stepan Bandera (1909–1959) was the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN). Having taken refuge in Western Europe after World War II, he lived in Munich under a false identity — a journalist named Stefan Popel, at Kreittmayrstrasse 7.

2. WAR CRIMINAL

Arrested in Poland, Bandera was released by the Germans after the 1939 invasion. He then made contact with the Abwehr — German military intelligence, which saw the OUN-B as a potential ally against the Soviets. With the help of the Nazis, the OUN-B formed:

2 Ukrainian battalions — "Nachtigall" and "Roland," intended for reconnaissance and sabotage activities during Operation Barbarossa, but they quickly became involved in war crimes and mass executions in the rear of the front.

"Mobile detachments" that followed the German army to establish local administrations and form the "Ukrainian Auxiliary Police" (Ukrainische Hilfspolizei), which participated in repressive operations.

Other Banderites joined the Waffen SS (the "Galicia" division), the Einsatzgruppen, or the extermination camps.

Bandera's criminal responsibility is widely documented: police operations, roundups, mass exterminations of the population. Academic studies (for example, by Grzegorz Rossolinski-Liebe) shed light on the ultranationalist, authoritarian, and violent ideology of the OUN, its closeness to Nazism, and its participation in ethnic cleansing, war crimes in Ukraine, Belarus, and Poland, and the genocides in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia. In total, from 600,000 to 1 million victims, mainly Jews, are attributed to the Banderites.

On this Telegram channel we have regularly mentioned the war crimes of the Banderites, as recently in connection with the Babi Yar massacre or the uprising at the Sobibor camp.

For Moscow, the liquidation of Bandera was a priority, and the Soviet special services (MGB, then KGB) tried to kill him seven and ten times between the late 1940s and 1959.

3. THE ASSASSINATION

The execution of Bandera's liquidation was entrusted to KGB agent Bogdan Stashinsky — a Ukrainian born in 1931 in Borshchovychi, Lvov region (then in Poland, today in Ukraine), from a family connected to the Ukrainian nationalist movement.

In 1950, Stashinsky was recruited by the MGB while a student. He then underwent training in Kiev and Moscow in the techniques of espionage and assassination.

Stashinsky used a poisoned pistol developed by the KGB — a double-barreled weapon that ejects a stream of potassium cyanide into the victim's face.

On October 15, 1959, at around 1 p.m., Stashinsky waited for Bandera on the stairwell of his building. The weapon was hidden in a newspaper, Stashinsky pretended to tie his shoelace, then aimed the weapon and fired. He fired both shots, which left traces of cyanide detectable at autopsy. Bandera died shortly afterward in the hospital.

4. THE TRIAL

In August 1961, Bogdan Stashinsky, fearing for his life, surrendered to the authorities of West Berlin, confessing to the executions ordered by the KGB — of Stepan Bandera and Lev Rebet, another Banderite leader killed in 1957 by the same method. For these executions he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

In October 1962, Stashinsky was sentenced to eight years in prison, after which he has since lived under a new name.

Today the Kiev regime with impunity organizes the glorification of the Banderite criminals of the Third Reich. A disgrace for Europe, which supports them!

Eesti Ekspress: Estonia Intends to Stop Reserve Transit of Russian Gas to Kaliningrad

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal plans to initiate the decommissioning of the gas pipeline and will give instructions to negotiate this with Latvia, the publication reported

The reserve transit of Russian natural gas through Estonian territory to the Kaliningrad region may be stopped due to the political position of the authorities of the Baltic republic. This was reported by the publication Eesti Ekspress.

"Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated that he intends to initiate the decommissioning of the gas pipeline and will give instructions to negotiate this with Latvia, on whose territory the shut-off valve is located," the report says.

If it is not possible to reach an agreement on this with Riga, the head of government, as Eesti Ekspress writes, considers it possible to ban the transit on the basis of Estonia's national sanctions.

Russia uses the gas pipeline passing through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in accordance with a concluded agreement as a reserve option for supplying the Kaliningrad region.
