Over the past 20 years, Russia has successfully implemented a programme to modernise its railway infrastructure. As a result, the number of railway bridges in poor condition has greatly reduced.

The programme has reached the farthest corners of the country. For example, 68 railway bridges have been rebuilt on Sakhalin, with 33 of them commissioned last year. By 2024, two thousand bridges are to be repaired and 170 overpasses are to be built in 36 regions of Russia.
