IELTS SPEAKING Sample

๐Ÿ“• Question:
How can schools prepare students for work?

โœ… Sample Answer:
There are several ways that schools can do this. To start with, they can include examples of work and careers in their lessons, so if the subject is chemistry, they could study the career of a successful chemist, for example. Schools can also send pupils on visits to workplaces, to offices or factories so that the young people can see workers doing their jobs. Another thing they could do, for older pupils, is to organise work experience so that students actually try doing a real job for a few hours or days. I think all these things together would certainly help to prepare young people for work.

Culture shock

Culture shock is an experience a person may have when one moves to a cultural environment which is different from one's own; it is also the personal disorientation a person may feel when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life due to immigration or a visit to a new country, a move between social environments, or simply to another type of life.

One of the most common causes of culture shock involves individuals in a foreign environment. Culture shock can be described as consisting of at least one of four distinct phases: honeymoon, negotiation, adjustment, and adaptation.

Common problems include: information overload, language barrier, generation gap, technology gap, skill interdependence, formulation dependency, homesickness (cultural), boredom (job dependency), response ability (cultural skill set).

There is no true way to entirely prevent culture shock, as individuals in any society are personally affected by cultural contrasts differently.

๐Ÿ’ฎ IELTS Physical Appearance Vocabulary

โ˜๏ธ During the IELTS Speaking exam you may want to talk about what people look like. This might involve describing their physical appearance or the type of clothes they like to wear. Read the following IELTS-style questions and answers

โ‡๏ธ Part 3-style questions

๐Ÿ—ฃExaminer:
Is it important to dress well whenever we go out?
Mark: It depends where youโ€™re going โ€ฆ I know some people get done up just to go to the shops โ€ฆ but I donโ€™t see the point โ€ฆ you shouldnโ€™t go out looking scruffy with disheveled hair but I really donโ€™t see the point in getting dressed up to the nines unless youโ€™re going somewhere special โ€ฆ

๐Ÿ—ฃExaminer: Do people worry too much about their appearance as they get older?
Mira: Iโ€™m sure they do โ€ฆ yes โ€ฆ but it happens to all of us doesnโ€™t it โ€ฆ we all go grey eventually and get hard of hearing โ€ฆ we start to lose our figure โ€ฆ thatโ€™s why plastic surgery is so popular โ€ฆ personally I think we just need to grow old gracefully and not worry too much about how we look โ€ฆ

๐Ÿ—ฃExaminer: Is attractiveness a quality worthwhile aiming for?
Phoebe: Iโ€™d like to say no โ€ฆ it shouldnโ€™t matter what we look like in terms of our physical appearance โ€ฆ but unfortunately it seems women especially are taken more seriously if they are good looking with a slender figure with perfect make up and so on โ€ฆ

Did you hear the song "Six feet under" by Billie Eilish.

๐Ÿ˜ฑSix feet under

Means:
Dead and buried, as in

No, you can't read my diaryโ€”not until I'm six feet under.

Although this expression alludes to what has long been the traditional depth of a grave, that is, approximately the same as the length of the coffin, it dates only from the mid-1900s.
