Take a look at our sunny Bike Ride snaps 😎

After the event, we caught up with our giveaway winner, Hamza Yüksel from Türkiye, a first-year Bachelor’s student in computer science. Here are his impressions:

It was an amazing experience — from getting my free bike rental to riding through the beautiful, green park with so many participants. I met new people and Lakhta Center, that modern skyscraper, was amazing. Everything was well organized, and I’m really grateful to have been part of such a memorable event.

Five hip cafes to visit over the long weekend ☕️

Some cafes in the city seem to always be in the spotlight, with customers lining up at the doors during peak hours. What’s all the hype about (no, it’s not just buns)? We invite you to find out for yourself this weekend❄️

Aster
📍Mayakovskogo St. 23/6

Seemingly the most shared eatery online: you just have to go there to form your own opinion. At first sight, it’s just like any other coffee shop in the city, but its secret is in the carefully-crafted menu, a wide variety of specialty coffee, and a dedicated pastry chef.

Zoe
📍Radishcheva St. 29

Various European-style breakfast options, freshly brewed coffee, and bread and buns that are baked right before your eyes.

Futura
📍Karpovka River Emb. 5 bldg. 36

Luxurious meals, cool drinks, and the real hit — a huge selection of baked goods, sour and sweet, all mouth-watering and all true stars on social media.

Smena
📍Baskov Ln. 20

Unique Russian syrniki, a must-try hot chocolate, and many filling breakfasts on the menu — that’s how we know Smena and that’s why we keep returning for more.

Kharakter
📍Fontanka River Emb. 108

A regular coffee shop during the week and a cinnamon roll paradise over the weekend! Come for the delicious, supple weekend special in two variations — regular and vegan — and grab a specialty coffee drink to go, as well.

Meet Wang Qin from Chengdu, China 🇨🇳

After completing his Master’s at ITMO, he’s back to his alma mater as a PhD student with a full scholarship! In this interview, he shares how interdisciplinary research, cultural adaptation, and learning from failure helped shape his academic path.

In my first year, I had to take an oral exam in Russian. I studied intensely for a week, but failed. It was heartbreaking because I had worked so hard. That failure pushed me to improve my Russian even more. I started volunteering as a translator at exhibitions and worked as a local tour guide. A semester later, I retook the exam and passed it confidently. That experience taught me the value of persistence and turning setbacks into motivation.
