India secured its highest-ever rank of 94th out of 167 countries in the UN Sustainable Development Goals Index 2026, climbing up 5 positions from last year with a score of 68.3.
🏆 3. SDG INDEX TOPPERS & BOTTLENECK
While Finland clinched the 1st rank globally, the report highlighted that SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) remains India's most critical bottleneck due to persistent child malnutrition indicators.
💼 4. END OF AN ERA: EPF SCHEME 1952 REPLACED
The Central Government has officially notified the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, 2026, completely repealing and replacing the historic 74-year-old EPF Scheme of 1952.
⚖️ 5. NEW LABOR CODES IN ACTION
The rollout of the new EPF Scheme, 2026 is part of the operationalization of the landmark Code on Social Security, 2020—one of the 4 new consolidated labor codes.
🛡️ 6. UAPA AMENDMENT: INDIVIDUAL TERRORISTS LISTED
The Ministry of Home Affairs designated 23 Pakistan-based operatives as individual terrorists using powers granted under Section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
📋 7. FOURTH SCHEDULE OF UAPA
Under the UAPA Act, terrorist organizations are listed under the First Schedule, whereas individual terrorists are added specifically to the Fourth Schedule.
🎖️ 8. NEW CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS)**
General Dhiraj Seth has officially taken charge as the 31st Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi. He is the 7th COAS from the Armoured Corps.
