Press Release
The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to inform the general public as well as members of national and international media outlets, as follows:
On Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 11:25 AM, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) in conducting an observation, verification, and reporting mission on the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border at the Chey Chomneas Border Checkpoint area, located in Thma Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province. The aforementioned area has been attacked, with barbed wire laid and 52 containers placed in Cambodian sovereign territory, illegally occupied by the Thai military, preventing many Cambodian families from returning home. The Thai military has further built two new flagpole structures, continued road construction, upgraded new bunkers, and deepened trenches in the area.
The observation conducted by the ASEAN Observer Team in the area within Cambodian sovereign territory that is currently under illegal occupation by the Thai military clearly demonstrated the urgent and absolute necessity of expeditiously commencing the border demarcation work by the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in accordance with existing agreements, as stipulated in Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), dated December 27, 2025. This step is essential to allow innocent Cambodian civilians to return home safely, without obstruction, and with dignity.
It is important to underscore that Cambodia maintains a firm stance on protecting the Cambodia–Thailand international boundary line as established by the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission, by respecting the principles of international law, including the principle of the intangibility of inherited borders (Uti Possidetis Juris), the Franco–Siamese conventions and treaties, maps, and the procès-verbaux of the Commission of the Abornement of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, as well as relevant agreements and documents that both parties have previously agreed upon. Cambodia absolutely does not recognize any border alterations resulting from the use of force.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.
