Intensive:
Title: Flying into landing
There are certain aspects of CI, which helps us feel this form as more pleasurable and less as a challenge. These are breathing, fluidity of movement and falling.
Breathing is natural for us and we do not think about it very often. Through series of exercises I will invite you to breathe consciously to combine it with movement in the state of awareness.
Fluidity is a natural state for our bodies. So we will investigate this way of movement and try to play with it on all levels, from the floor level to standing position. This fluid state of guarantees our safety and allows for more fun at the same time.
Falling is the third aspect that we will work on. In my opinion falling is the most important and at the same time most neglected amongst CI practitioners. Yet exercised with care, it will allow us to push borders of CI experience further and will teach us, how to dance safely.
All three aspects are mutually strengthening each other and helping each other and we will dive into this relationship.
Fall does not exist!
It’s simply an automatic body reaction to a fear dictated by an unknown and untested pattern of movement, that took us by surprise.
This time our meeting will be devoted to development of our falling and flying skills.
Through spiraling, rolling, spreading the momentum we will befriend dynamical meetings with a floor, which are known as falling. Through series of processes we will try to transform those into landings.
Main emphasis is to change and rewrite our instinctual movement habits in order to open ourselves into shared kinesphere where two centers are intertwined in dynamical interchange.
Throughout the workshop we will introduce and develop fair share of dynamic partnering with strong pressure however towards the technics of helping yourselves into landing. Main goal of the workshop is to start the process of erasing the idea of a fall, from our mind and body.
No animal walks on their knees. Nevertheless, knee pads are advised! You know just to on the safe side.

Dance training and contact improvisation as experiential research practices
In this intensive I would like to combine two approaches that have strongly influenced and inspired me as a dance artist, CI dancer and movement researcher for many years. There is Axis Syllabus initiated by Frey Faust, a collective and living archive of knowledge about the body in motion with a strong focus on anatomical, biomechanical and physical relationships used to analyze and improve movement processes. And there is movement alchemy, a training approach for performers by Sara Shelton Mann (american choreographer), a field of research that deals with touch as a transformative tool, energetic alignments in the body as well as clarity in intention and attention, among other things. We will move in both systems, which are characterized by very different languages and logic. You can expect hands-on work, improvisation, contact, practice-theory dialogue and looping movement patterns to immerse deeply into our phenomenal bodies.

Weight communicates to us a give and take relationship with gravity. Each part of the body has a different weight. Weight can be a subjective experience. Weight is not only a matter of weighing, but also of thinking. Drop the weight. Hold the weight. Share the weight. The weight draws us into an inevitable dialogue with the earth and living beings. ¿How much does the presence of a dancing body weigh?

Jumping | Falling – Up and down
During the intensive we will explore how the different practices that influce me while I dance Contact improvisation can lead to new possibilities of movement.
My aim is to awake and integrate them into the dance: determination and letting go, toning up and going with the flow, jumping up and down. We will explore the relationship between falling towards the floor and towards yours partners, how to open yourself to this idea, continuing with falling down and up to get to flying and traveling from one support to the other.
We will experience Contact Improvisation as a game of giving and receiving, at times through the eyes and the curiosity of children - who are welcome to share the experience with us - but also as a training to investigate gravity, softness, dropping in, elasticity, pushing up, density, tone, tensegrity, reaching.
There will be time to dance, and we will use some technical elements without losing the state of presence, relaxation and dynamicity in the dance.
We will use the possibilities that the place offers us to bring our research on movement not only into the studio but also in nature. Dance as a place of origin, where we can make contact with plants, insects, birds, trees and other living beings, to give the possibilities to ourselves to be crossed by the awareness of being framed with nature.
Free to lose "memory" and knowledge of all the things learned, we will look for new forms of communication and of sharing, leaving room for creativity.

You are probably familiar with the state when you are somewhere in the center of peace of yourself and nowhere at the same time, and the world around you unfolds with its own rhythms, sounds and colors. Everything happens effortlessly, in a timely manner and everything is in its place.
The most dynamic, fast dance with many supports at different levels can happen around the epicenter of silence inside. And despite, perhaps, the most extremly observing from the outside, in its essence such a dance will be the safest.
We are always interested in finding and exploring ways to get into such states in and through Contact Improvisation.
Through concrete and practical-technical exercises, and sometimes very abstractly subtle and contemplative ones, we will look together for the keys of KI that open the doors of such states.

Sometimes in Contact Improvisation we focus so much on following the point of contact that we forget about dancing, or we dance our solo schemes forgetting about including proximity and contact possibilities in our composition.
We propose a class on how not to loose yourself in the sensory experience of CI and bring more of yourself into the dance, or even sometimes challenge the flow and the predictability that appears in the CI learned patterns by changing and playing with muscle tone, inertia and direction. But also to see how from the solo dancing and improvisation you can find solutions of entering in contact that make sense both technically and compositionally. How not to get lost in the ‘duet bubble’ and include others around and the space. To keep the specific zoom-in quality of CI and at the same time be able to keep an open eye on zoom out perspective, the ansamble vision of real time composition practices.

Olga Labovkina is a choreographer, dancer and director originally from Belarus. In 2017, she received the award for the best choreographer at the Context Diana Vishneva festival, and her works were presented on the stages of Berlin, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In 2022, she comes to the Republic of Moldova for the first time to present a solo piece and also her production as a choreographer.

What would we like more - for others to know something about us or not to know something about us? Sometimes it's important that someone simply listens to us... To hear us. Telling about ourselves, on the one hand, makes us more vulnerable; on the other hand, we open a space for dialogue, for sincerity and pure human affection, in which we know each other and allow ourselves to be heard. The performance is built on a predetermined structure of "small stories", within which the improvisation will happen.

Close, far, new or well-known people. They carry within them hidden mirrors that reflect the mystery of this life. Somewhere new inspirations and expirations are reflected, somewhere losses and gains, and somewhere - the passage of time itself. Our eyes are bottomless lakes, in the depths of which dances the echo of the Universe. Let's look there and not take our eyes off anything we find there. Let's melt the silver in our heart and make it a mirror. And tonight, let nothing remain that is not reflected in it.

"City of Our Children", choreography by Olga Labovkina, 32 min
2. BOOM dance theater, Bender
"Little woman", choreography by Olga Yakimchenco, 20 min
3. Medea Dance Company, Chisinau
Concert, choreography by Irina Slobodeniuc, 20 min
This event is presenting dance schools from Moldova and Transnistrian region, which have already begun to work in the direction of modern dance and create forms such as performances and one-act shows.
Also we present the combined work of 2 schools: Moldova - Transnistrian region, a performance staged especially for this festival by Olga Labovkina - a sparkling and powerful choreographer.
We see this event as a support for young artists, for contemporary art and culture in general, as well as for the development of open-mindedness among young artists and as an example of it.

"Shakima Trio" (Ukraine/Latvia) will perform a concert at the closing evening of the 14th CONTACT+ contemporary dance festival.
The musicians of the "Shakima Trio" group united as a result of a fleeing soloist - after leaving Ukraine, Shakima settled in Riga. The result of the interaction of the three musicians was a unique concert program, in which the Ukrainian ethno-cultural heritage is conveyed by modern musical language. The concert program includes ambient compositions rooted in ancient magic folklore, as well as dynamic, rhythmic and life-affirming songs, enriched with bright stage charm.
