M+ Market Update – 10Mar25
Bargain Hunting Activities Could Emerge
The local bourse ended the week in the red, as Telco & Media heavyweights dragged sentiment. While job growth showed signs of fatigue, Wall Street traded positively after Jerome Powell's speech on a robust economic outlook, despite concerns that President Trump’s new trade policies could prove inflationary. This week, traders will keep an eye on: (i) U.S. JOLTS Job Openings, (ii) U.S. Inflation Data, (iii) U.S. Producer Price Index, (iv) U.S. Unemployment Claims, (v) Prelim UoM Consumer Sentiment, and (vi) Prelim UoM Inflation Expectations. On the commodities market, Brent Crude eased its downward pressure toward USD69 per barrel amid Ukraine-Russia peace talks and new U.S. trade policies. Gold traded within a tight range at USD2,911 an ounce, while CPO prices moved toward RM4,625, breaking above the SMA-20.
Sector Focus: Bargain hunting is expected to emerge in the Banking stocks after the recent sell-offs; supported by stable loan growth and attractive dividend, while REITs could gain traction due to a steady recovery in footfall. Meanwhile, we opine that the delay of the 30% tariff hike in port tariffs, could provide some upside for local logistics players, particularly those involved in container handling and storage. Lastly, we see trading opportunities in plantation stocks following the recent surge in CPO prices.
Stocks to watch:
Technology: ITMAX, *MCLEAN*
Financial: *OSK*
Property: *SUNWAY*
Telco: *TM*
