M+ Market Update – 20Mar25
Fed Kept Interest Rates Unchanged
The local bourse closed lower following profit-taking activities across banking heavyweights. In the US, all three indices rebounded after the Fed held the interest rates unchanged and maintained its forecast for two rate cuts this year. The decision to hold rates came despite an anticipated rise in inflation this year, as weaker economic growth is expected to offset elevated inflationary pressures. Meanwhile, investors will closely watch the PBoC loan prime rate announcement. In the commodities market, Brent oil remained above USD70/barrel, while gold surged to all-time-high around USD3,050. Meanwhile, CPO traded flat below RM4,400/tonne.
Sector Focus: In view of NETR roadmap, renewable energy (RE) stocks remain on our radar, driven by the LSS5+ programme and Malaysia’s 31% RE capacity goal this year. Thus, we expect higher trading activities for SLVEST, given its recent RM401m EPCC contract win for TNB’s 500MW solar farm in Bukit Selembau, Kedah—the largest solar project awarded under the LSS programme. We favour the plantation company, JTIASA for its positive cash flow and attractive dividends. Besides, investors can refer to our latest IPO note on SumiSaujana (M+ Fair Value: RM0.30), which specializes in manufacturing O&G specialty chemicals, focusing on upstream drilling fluids and production/refinery chemicals.
Stocks to watch:

Bursa Malaysia Midday Recap: Uncertainty Lingers
The FBM KLCI opened in positive territory following the US Fed's decision to keep interest rates unchanged. However, closer to midday, the index lost momentum and slipped into the red. Despite the decline, market breadth improved slightly, with gainers outnumbering laggards. The technology and energy sectors extended their winning streak for the fifth day, while most defensive sectors remained in negative territory. Meanwhile, as geopolitical concerns persist, gold prices hit an all-time high, reflecting heightened investor caution.
Our analysts highlight GREATEC’s acquisition from a distressed seller as a long-term value driver, enhancing its automation exposure. Investors may consider GREATEC (Target Price: MYR 1.95) as a potential BUY. For the full report, stock ideas, and market flow updates, access the Discover Tab on the Maybank Trade MY app.

M+ Market Update – 21Mar25
Time For Consolidation
The local bourse closed lower for the second day, driven by selling pressure in selected hospital and banking heavyweights. In the US, all three indices snapped their one-day gains as the Fed kept its expectation of two rate cuts this year. The Fed revised its GDP growth downward from 2.1% to 1.7%, while raising its PCE inflation forecast to 2.8% from 2.5% for the year. Uncertainties over Trump’s tariffs also weighed on companies, interrupting their plans and capital spending. Meanwhile, Malaysia will release its February CPI data today. In the commodities market, Brent oil edged up toward USD72/barrel, while gold declined marginally below USD3,050/oz. Meanwhile, CPO rebounded above the RM4,400 level.
Sector Focus: Despite looming US tariff uncertainties, Malaysia’s exports remained resilient in February, growing 6.2% YoY, driven by the E&E and palm oil industries. We anticipate sustained interest in the semiconductor and E&E sectors, supported by Malaysia's 10-year partnership with Arm Holdings and also the ongoing global tech spending in AI. Meanwhile, the monsoon transition period (March–May) may also spur follow-through interest in certain flood mitigation, construction and building materials counters. Nevertheless, investors should remain cautious of the upcoming US reciprocal tariffs on April 2nd, which could reintroduce near-term market volatility.

Bursa Malaysia Midday Recap: Market Holds Firm Despite Headwinds
The FBM KLCI opened in positive territory today despite lingering concerns over US tariffs. Broad market sentiment remained bearish, with most risk-off sectors trading slightly up or flat. However, the construction sector rebounded after two consecutive days of losses, while financials continued their uptrend following a brief pause yesterday. On utilities, SALCON secured a RM167 million contract from Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd to build a new water treatment plant, raw water pipeline and related infrastructure in Melaka.
Investors seeking opportunities in the construction sector may consider GAMUDA (Target Price: MYR 5.25) as a potential trading pick. For the full report, stock ideas, and market flow updates, access the Discover Tab on the Maybank Trade MY app.

FBM KLCI: 1,505.45 pts (+1.29pts, +0.09%)
Despite the regional market sell-offs, the FBMKLCI (+0.09%) bucked the trend and closed higher at 1,505.45 pts, led by buying interest in key heavyweights like PETDAG (+174.0 sen) and IHH (+13.0 sen). The country also recorded a 1.5% YoY rise in inflation for February, lower than January’s 1.7% increase. The slower inflation growth was due to stabilized food prices and moderated housing and utilities costs. Meanwhile, the market breadth was negative, with 513 losers against 371 winners. In the broader market, the Consumer Products & Services (+0.89%) sector outperformed following the disbursement of ‘Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah’ (Phase 2) next Monday, while the Telecommunications & Media (-1.26%) sector saw the largest decline.

M+ Market Update – 24Mar25
Back To Fundamentals
The FBMKLCI posted slight gains as Consumer Products & Services heavyweights offset weaknesses in Telco & Media heavyweights. Similarly, Wall Street eked out marginal gains, while the Dollar strengthened despite the ongoing new US trade policies being introduced by President Trump. This week, traders will closely monitor (i) Flash Manufacturing PMI, (ii) Flash Services PMI, (iii) U.S. economic growth, (iv) Unemployment Claims, and (v) Core PCE Index. In the commodities market, both Brent oil traded along USD72 and gold above USD3,000 per ounce. CPO prices traded within a tight range around RM4,375.
Sector Focus: With the recent announcement from President Trump imposing "Maximum Pressure" to remove Iran's oil supply from the global oil market, combined with OPEC+'s decision to extend production cuts of 1.66m bpd until Dec-2025, global oil supply is expected to tighten further, providing additional support for crude oil prices; translating to potential trading interest within the O&G sector. Meanwhile, we see trading opportunities within Transportation & Logistics, particularly those linked to container and conventional cargo handling, after Westports' strong breakout last Friday, despite the proposed delay in the Port Tariff revision, as we expect its DRP-funded CapEx funding should provide further growth on a longer-term basis.
