Memory refers to the processes that are used to acquire, store, retain, and later retrieve information. There are three major processes involved in memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Human memory involves the ability to both preserve and recover information we have learned or experienced.
Computer memory is of two basic type – Primary memory(RAM and ROM) and Secondary memory(hard drive,CD,etc.). Random Access Memory (RAM) is primary-volatile memory and Read Only Memory (ROM) is primary-non-volatile memory. It is also called as read write memory or the main memory or the primary memory.
Let us now discuss the various types of ROMs and their characteristics.
PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory)
EPROM (Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)
EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)
Although all RAM basically serves the same purpose, there are a few different types commonly in use today:

Static RAM (SRAM)

Dynamic RAM (DRAM)

Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM)

Single Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDR SDRAM)

Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (DDR SDRAM, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4)

Graphics Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (GDDR SDRAM, GDDR2, GDDR3, GDDR4, GDDR5)
