Arrived at TPAC in Kobe, Japan. Very confused by everything around (first time in Asia, come on) and still jet-lagged, but started exploring the city.

Finally set up Firefox profiles to separate different sides of my everyday work. Custom icons make it much easier to navigate 😎

Yay! Safari TP recently joined Firefox and Chrome in removing legacy styling for nested h1s. Though I haven’t noticed it in the release notes πŸ€”

Demo, details on MDN.

Finally published my Stylelint config as a separate npm package so I can conveniently reuse it between projects. Including a list of 499 properties sorted in a way that makes sense to me (never-ending work in progress). The update.js script will help me to keep it up to date using MDN’s BCD.

One second-hand Apple Magic Keyboard is dead. But another Touch ID box in a 3D-printed case is born! πŸ€“

For almost 10 years we've been publishing daily web platform news for the Russian-speaking community. I always wanted to do the same in English, and five months ago I finally started. Yesterday I published the 100th news on Web Standards. Here’s a little story behind the project. Of course, built with Eleventy 😎

I can finally quickly test adaptive layouts in Firefox’s new Split View mode. For more advanced testing, there’s Polypane, of course. But there are many other simpler side-by-side use cases. Yay!

Hello CSS Day, or more like CSS week? I’ve only arrived in Amsterdam, but I’ve already been amazed by what CSS can do. Just one example: resize the window on the desktop to save the octopus from drying out!

Yes, that’s exactly what you need to do when a client-side exception has occurred: fill the page black and guide users to the console. Well done πŸ‘

Why bother with time zones when you can just offload this problem on your user’s shoulders? Lazy Vattenfall bastards πŸ™„

Now that most of the browsers are moving to a 2-week release cycle, expect:

Firefox 200 in 2028 ✨
Firefox 300 in 2032 ✨

…and if I live long enough, I might see Firefox 1000 in 2059 😬

I’m cursed to see faux bold rendering when font-weight is cranked higher than the included font actually supports. I wish browser DevTools would flag it in the console. Makes me wonder if this could be caught by a linter πŸ€”

An SVG inside <img> has always been a styling dead end: you can place it, but you can’t paint it. CSS Linked Parameters fix that, and Firefox Nightly is the only browser that has them so far.

So I traced Warhol’s Marilyn into four flat plates and repainted it nine times from a single 50 KB file. One network request πŸ’…

Yay, with the 27.0.1 update, macOS is almost usable now! Well, apart from the β€œwhich one of the black boxes is the space you’re looking for?” game. It’s still there 🫠
