Life reveals me to myself.

The ego points the finger outward.

Awareness looks inward.

Instead of asking, “Why did they make me angry?” ask, “Why was anger so easy to bring out of me?”

Instead of “Why did they reject me?” ask, “Why does their approval have so much power over me?”

Instead of “Why does this keep happening to me?” ask, “What is this experience revealing about me?”

Life constantly shows us the parts of ourselves we still need to understand.

The world becomes a mirror when you stop blaming the reflection.

Your imagination is a microcosmic world where your awareness is free to exercise its own will.

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21

Nearly every action is the fulfilment of some emotion or desire within the heart.

A thought can exist in the mind, but when that thought becomes emotionally charged, it creates desire, and desire moves us towards action.

The heart is almost like the bridge between thought and action.

So when Jesus says, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” your treasure is what you’ve given value to internally.

And whatever the heart values, the mind and body naturally begin moving towards.

Your actions eventually reveal what your heart truly treasures.

“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts.” Proverbs 20:27

I think this verse is describing awareness itself.

The “candle” is that inner light that allows you to see what is happening inside your own psyche. Without awareness, thoughts, emotions and desires can operate in darkness. You act them out without even understanding what moved you.

But when that inner light is turned inward, you begin seeing the hidden motives behind your actions, the emotions behind your thoughts and the desires behind your decisions.

Maybe enlightenment is literally that. Bringing light into the parts of yourself that were previously unconscious.

The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder.”

A disordered mind doesn’t need to be punished from the outside. It punishes itself.

If you cannot govern your own thoughts, emotions and desires, they begin governing you. You become anxious because you cannot control where your attention goes. You become emotionally unstable because every thought can change your internal state. You make decisions from temporary urges and then have to live with their consequences.

Eventually what begins as disorder in the mind starts expressing itself through the rest of your life. Your relationships suffer. Your habits change. Your body carries the stress. Your decisions become less conscious.

This is why inner order matters so much. You experience life through your own mind. If there is chaos within the instrument you experience life through, eventually everything you experience becomes coloured by that chaos.

Push the boundaries of your thought. Only then you will discover how divine the mind truly is.

The mind is just a circulation of symbols.

There are two aspects of yourself that you are constantly developing, whether you realise it or not. The outer man and the inner man.

The outer man is everything you identify with in the physical world. Your body, possessions, money, status and reputation. All of these things are temporary and eventually decay, regardless of how much attention you give them.

The inner man, however, is something entirely different. It is developed through self-awareness, wisdom, discipline and the ability to govern your own mind, emotions and desires.

You can spend your entire life building the outer man while completely neglecting the one within.

And this is where many people go wrong. They measure their growth by what they have accumulated externally, without ever questioning what they have become internally.

Ask yourself every day, what have I done today to develop my inner man? Have I become more conscious, more disciplined, more understanding and more in control of myself? Or have I spent another day feeding the part of me that is slowly dying?

The more conscious you become of the internal processes of your psyche, the more control you gain over yourself and the direction of your reality.

Understanding how the different faculties of your mind generate thought, how thought produces chemical responses within the body, and how these unconscious processes influence your perception and actions is tremendously powerful. Most people live their entire lives without ever questioning these inner mechanisms.

For example, the three symbols above Jesus’s head represent one of the most powerful psychological teachings I’ve ever come across.

The greatest ignorance is not knowing the world around you, but remaining unconscious of the forces within your own mind that shape how you experience it.
