1. Когда́ ты впервы́е уви́дел кири́ллицу, ты был в восто́рге: "Кру́то! Приключе́ния то́лько начина́ются!".
When you first meet the Cyrillic alphabet and think, cool, I can do this.

2. В те дре́вние дни, ка́ждая побе́да явля́лась чем-то эпи́ческим.
In those early days, every little victory is thrilling. Like when you can finally read the word “bread” after puzzling over it for five minutes.

Ты был уве́рен на всё 100, что прочита́ть То́лстого и Достоевского - э́то как два па́льца ... .

You’ll be ready to tackle Tolstoy and Dostoevsky in no time.

3. Но о́чень бы́стро ты по́нял, что знать бу́квы э́то одно́, а понима́ть ру́сский язы́к э́то совсе́м друго́е.
But you quickly realize that making sense of the alphabet is one thing, and actually speaking Russian is another. Read more: https://pen4pals.com/en/29-surprizov-kotorie-zhdut-tebya-pri-izuchenii-russkogo-yazika

Russian Grammar ))
Reality
One thing that has helped me personally is understanding that Russian is a very systematic, almost mathematical language with its own internal logic.

The cases are there to help you understand how each word functions in a sentence. The imperfective/perfective verbs are there to help you understand the relation verbs have with their consequent actions within a specific time frame. The verbs of motion are there to help you come to grips with how you navigate across space.

Which is why I am often unimpressed by many people complaining about how Russian is a horrific language with horrific grammar and whatnot. I think Russian can be a very easy language as long as you understand that the grammar is there to help, not hinder. More: https://pen4pals.com/en/basic-understanding-how-russian-cases-function
