The community had pledged not to wear turbans until a grand Ram Mandir was reconstructed at the site where a disputed structure had been erected by Babur. This vow is deeply rooted in their historical belief that approximately 90,000 of their ancestors fought valiantly against Mir Baqi, the commander of Babur, who demolished an ancient Ram temple and replaced it with the disputed structure. #HistoryAwareness #JaiShriRam

The Gandhi-Irwin Pact, also known as the Delhi Agreement, was a significant political accord signed on 5 March 1931 by Mahatma Gandhi and Lord Irwin, then Viceroy of India, ahead of the Second Round Table Conference in London. This agreement facilitated the release of numerous political detainees, including Jawaharlal Nehru, later India’s inaugural Prime Minister. While Lord Irwin assumed Gandhi would seek mercy for the prisoners, the Indian leader notably framed their imprisonment as a “law and order” concern, asserting it was the responsibility of British authorities. This unexpected response baffled observers, who had anticipated Gandhi to mount a more impassioned effort to secure their freedom. #HistoryAwareness #SangamTalks
Why isn’t Surya Sen in our textbooks?
A schoolteacher who shook the British Empire. He led the Chittagong Armory Raid and raised the tricolor on April 18, 1930. The British called him a rebel, but we remember him as Master Da, the teacher who taught the nation how to fight. Despite brutal punishment, his courage could never be erased.
His crime? Organizing acts of defiance that shook an empire. Remember his name.

The response to our Bahraich reel was overwhelming, so here is another chapter many of us were never taught. From Suheldev at Bahraich to Maharaja Marthanda Varma at Colachel, there is a larger story hiding in plain sight. We learnt who came to conquer India. We heard far less about the Indians who stopped them.
In this reel, Dr. Vikram Sampath recounts how the Dutch were comprehensively defeated at Colachel in 1741, dealing a devastating blow to their ambitions in Kerala. More such lesser known chapters coming your way. #SangamTalks #HistoryAwareness

Historian Vikram Sampath tells the remarkable story of her resistance and the ingenious tactics used against a formidable naval power.
One forgotten chapter at a time, we continue uncovering the stories Bharat deserves to know. And there is much more to come.
