THURSDAY, 5 NOVEMBER
Greetings, my dear fellow travelers!
And so, our long adventure is finally drawing to a close. It has taken to the 20th century.
Europe in the summer of 1914 stands at the zenith of civilization. These are the final days of an age that would later be remembered nostalgically as the Belle Époque — the Beautiful Era. To Europeans, it seems that the golden age has already arrived, and that from here on, everything can only get better. The economy has become so globalized that elites sincerely believe a great war is impossible. Nobody would benefit from it!
Just a few months later, the people who lived through this elegant and optimistic age will be participating in horrific military affairs. And this catastrophe will begin with a driver in a Balkan city accidentally turning down the wrong street.
