If it feels like things have been going… somewhat poorly lately, you’re at least not alone in history. This time, we’ll talk about a series of disasters that befell people in the 13th–14th centuries, at the turning point between what we call the High and Late Middle Ages.
While the East was drowning in the blood of Genghis Khan’s campaigns, Europe was anticipating the dawn of a new era—but to reach it, it had to pass through catastrophic hardships: the Great Famine and the deadly plague epidemic. And even that wasn’t the end of it—the culmination of this era was the Hundred Years’ War, which taught people a sense of national identity and shattered the foundations of the feudal army.
And yet, despite all these horrors, they helped usher in the beginning of new times full of hope—the Renaissance and the Age of Great Geographical Discoveries. How did this ray of light emerge from utter darkness? A very timely question.

Arco is a ten-year-old boy from the distant future who breaks the laws of time travel and flight in order to see dinosaurs. Instead of the prehistoric world, he ends up in the not-so-distant year 2075, where he is discovered by Iris, a girl his age.
She will try to help him return to his own time and world — setting in motion a chain of events that we will dive into together this Thursday.
