If you have automations that trigger on CarPlay Disconnect and receive phantom CarPlay Disconnect events when nowhere near your car, it's a bug, and here's why.

<!-- SC_OFF -->TL;DR: iPhone memory management kicks in and kills long idling processes that includes CarPlay. Carplay Background process comes back on and sets the state to disconnected. This kicks off the automation. Also there's a small step at the end that might help if it's bad that your automation runs randomly bc of this. --- Ok, so I recently created a shortcut that automatically locks my since it doesn't have that feature natively. I trigger it by logging gps location when carplay disconnects, waiting x time, and comparing that GPS location to my current one. If it's between certain values then it sends a lock command. This is to prevent me from accidentally locking my phone in the car with my keyfob accidentally, because the Hyundai app will let you remotely lock a car with the keyfob still in the car. My last car did it automatically for 2 years so it's tough getting back into the habit. Anyway, the shortcut works great and now if I forget to lock my car I'm covered, but I noticed my automation was running frequently throughout the day and night, but with no discernible pattern. So I logged everything at each step. I'd have multiple CarPlay Disconnected events without a Carplay Connected event, no bluetooth events, etc. I looked into it here and there for the last few days. So I finally caught it while monitoring the live console output of the phone when it triggered again. Here are the key lines with some truncation. memorystatus: System will begin reaping long-idle processes... ...swap_low: 1, swap_exhausted: 1... kernelmemorystatus: killing_idle_process pid 7059 [CarPlay] (long-idle-exit 0 398s rf:- type:app) 10273KB - memorystatus_available_pages: 96440 compressor_size:80269 CarPlay Writing connection event to biome. started=0, wireless=0 siriactionsd Enqueuing trigger of type: WFCarPlayConnectionTrigger BackgroundShortcutRunner-[WFBackgroundShortcutRunner runWorkflowWithDescriptor:request:inEnvironment:runningContext:completion:] Disabling privacy prompts because this is a personal automation. So basically Jetsam is reaping and relaunching the idle carplay process as part of a memory cleanup task likely caused by swap space being filled up (I can't confirm that part about swap though), and then restarting the background listening service for CarPlay afterwards. The most important message here is where it writes "started=0" when the CarPlay background service is restarted. Shortcuts is seeing that and processing it as the phone disconnecting. So this explains the randomness and honestly explains why I saw it more frequently while playing a game, vs other app use, vs idle time. I've sent a bug report to Apple, but it would help if others send it as well, and hopefully they'll help Shortcuts not trigger based on a service restart after memory management events. https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone/ and choose bug report. Because my shortcut uses a location change factor, this causes me no harm if I turn off the notifications, but a work that might help if your automation matters. Dynamic Charge Shortcut
https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/1wvob34/dynamic_charge_shortcut/
https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/1wvob34/dynamic_charge_shortcut/
<!-- SC_OFF -->This shortcut is designed for iPhone 15s and higher (or any device that supports iOS charge limits). What it does: asks you every time you plug in for your desired charge limit. Then changes it to that charge limit. Simple. For those who are wondering about the code: I found that asking for an input has a specific problem, where you get a dialog box in which you can type ANY number. So typing a number such as 83 would make the shortcut ask you again, but this time with multiple choice options, as iOS charge limit only goes up in 5% increments, and the lowest value possible is 80. Therefore, I made the shortcut automatically attempt to change the charge limit to 3 (0 leads to 85 and 95 being omitted), so this multiple choice list comes up immediately, for even simpler use. Very simple design, but I find it really useful for taking care of the battery, so I thought I’d share it. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/BlazeBladeRBLX (https://www.reddit.com/user/BlazeBladeRBLX)

An iOS Shortcut that logs every charging event to Google Sheet— including a selfie, location, battery, BSSID & AI analysis

<!-- SC_OFF -->Imagine someone steals your phone and for some reason, they don't switch it off & also they also don't have access to the Control Centre from the lock screen & whenever they put the phone on charge, you will get all this information that will be really helpful to you. Every time the phone is plugged in or removed from charge, it logs a bunch of stuff into Google Sheets: Battery % Date & time Device + iOS version Wi-Fi BSSID Location + Google Maps link A selfie A short AI description of the selfie The selfie gets uploaded to Google Drive, and the Drive link goes into the Sheet along with everything else. The whole thing is basically Shortcuts → Google Apps Script → Google Sheets + Google Drive. The AI part runs on the phone. Was tinkering with what others had built, but I feel this is something which feels complete. Don't know if something like this already exists or not. Steps: Create the Google Sheet Create a new Google Sheet and make a sheet called Logs. Add these headers in Row 1: Log ID | Timestamp | Device | iOS Version | Battery % | BSSID | Latitude | Longitude | Location Link | Selfie | AI Analysis Create the Drive folder In Google Drive, create a folder called: iPhone Charging Selfies Add the Apps Script In the Google Sheet: Extensions → Apps Script Delete the default code and paste the Apps Script below. const SHEET_NAME = "Logs";
const FOLDER_NAME = "iPhone Charging Selfies"; function doGet() {
return ContentService
.createTextOutput("Charging Logger API is running. Use POST.")

iOS 27 Shortcuts acts strange. I'm trying the new Siri AI to generate Shortcuts

<!-- SC_OFF -->I was trying to create a shortcut where when I activate it it will ask me how long I want to stay in silent mode (I do want my phone to vibrate for calls and notifications) and I only want this to be activated for however much time I select. Instead of using a focus, I was trying to have mine just turn on silent mode for a user selected period of time. This is handy for when I don't want the phone to sound, but still want to be notified when a message or call comes through via vibrate, and after a selected period of time silent mode will such off after the selected time ends so I have to remember to turn off silent mode. It doesn't seem to work properly at all. I used the new Siri AI to help create it, here's the screenshots, any idea of what Siri has done wrong here? also, when it's running all of my other shortcuts are grayed out. I have attached screenshots. Thanks! <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/Sunstar823 (https://www.reddit.com/user/Sunstar823)

<!-- SC_OFF -->I’m trying to use Shortcuts more for basic tracking/logging where I need it to ask me a couple simple questions throughout the day. My issue is figuring out when to trigger the prompt. Time-based automations feel too rigid because I could be in a meeting, at dinner, commuting, etc. Triggering it when I open an app or unlock/use my phone also feels annoying and random. Ideally, I want something more intelligent — basically: “I need to ask me these 2–3 questions today, but wait until it seems like a convenient time when he’s actually using his phone.” Has anyone figured out a good system for this?
Maybe something like:
Wait until I’m actively using my phone
Avoid certain times / Focus modes
If I dismiss it, try again later
Stop asking once I’ve answered for the day Basically looking for a way to make Shortcuts prompts feel context-aware instead of scheduled or intrusive. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/Fickle-Effort1131 (https://www.reddit.com/user/Fickle-Effort1131)

Stop asking once I’ve answered for the day Basically looking for a way to make Shortcuts prompts feel context-aware instead of scheduled or intrusive. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/Fickle-Effort1131 (https://www.reddit.com/user/Fickle-Effort1131)

<!-- SC_OFF -->Hey there! I just figured I’d share this shortcut I made (https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/c236a5ee1c894cfd97996e9d913e847c) for selectively turning on/off my work focus. In short, it takes into account how far away I am from my wife, how far away I am from my home, and what time of day it is. So if I am with my wife during regular work hours (for instance, if we are on vacation), it keeps my work focus turned off. And if I am close to my home (for instance, if I have the day off even if my wife is still working), it keeps my work focus turned off. To begin with, my work focus is scheduled within the iOS settings to run from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays (as seen in the first screenshot). Then we get into the shortcut itself: When my work focus turns on, the shortcut gets my wife’s current location from my Home Assistant server. Then it calculates the distance between my wife and me. If she and I are less than one mile apart, the shortcut turns my work focus back off. If we are one mile or more apart, it carries on to the next step. If my wife and I are one mile or more apart when my work focus turns on, then the shortcut calculates the distance between my home address and my current location. If I am twenty miles or more away from home and it is currently earlier than 5:00 PM, then it turns my work focus on until 6:00 PM. If I am twenty miles or more away from home and it is currently later than 5:00 PM when I turn on the work focus, then it turns my work focus on until 11:00 PM. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/peonyattache (https://www.reddit.com/user/peonyattache)

iOS27 removed the location radius for a location based automation...
https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/1ww03na/ios27_removed_the_location_radius_for_a_location/
<!-- SC_OFF -->EDIT: Solved -- thanks everyone! Per the title... I have an automation that simply opens the MYQ app when get close to our house. Prior to iOS27.xx; I could adjust the location radius in or out by clicking on the down arrow next to my location. That is no longer there. What I get now when I click that down arrow is three options: time range, automation on/off, and confirm before run. Is there another place to adjust the location radius? <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/l_dean (https://www.reddit.com/user/l_dean)
