we've seen this tug of war play out in the other VC subsidized spaces (delivery, taxis, marketplaces). its still the same for the ones in AI.
ROI for users vs ROI for model providers, but now also add in a new ROI for infra players.
it seems that while it was both >ROI for users and >ROI for model providers, the growth of open-source cheaper models has impacted the closed-source model providers.
and.. this has led them to start to try and create an uneven playing field (regulation, forced slowdown, pushing timelines to raise capital, lowering valuations and im sure they're also giving a lot of concessions to investors, going with "dumb money" big capital like... ME capital).
