Tesla is dismantling its Model S and Model X production lines at the Fremont factory. The site is now being cleared to mass-produce the Optimus humanoid robot.

This shift highlights a major change in strategy for the company:
πŸ“ Assembly lines for luxury vehicles are being removed entirely.
πŸ“ The entire floor space is being converted for robot manufacturing.
πŸ“ The latest robot design includes hands with 25 degrees of freedom for 0.2mm precision.

It seems the future is no longer just electric cars, but mechanical assistants. As they say in the movies, it’s a whole new world. #Tesla #Optimus #Robotics
Tesla reaches hundreds of Optimus units per week

Tesla is now building several hundred Optimus robots each week at its factory in Fremont. This production volume is ten times higher than the output reported in the second quarter of this year.

The company repurposed production lines previously used for the Model S and Model X to accommodate the new builds. Engineers are currently addressing assembly bottlenecks caused by the extreme precision required for smaller components. These parts are significantly harder to align than standard vehicle components, which has led to consistent snags on the assembly line.

While production is scaling, the robots still cannot handle generalized tasks, limiting their ability to operate independently. Suppliers are also struggling to maintain the necessary quality standards at this volume, and early units have faced issues with fragile hand designs.

Despite these technical hurdles, Tesla maintains a target of reaching 1,000 units per week by the end of 2026.
