Solar overtakes coal in the United States as of May 2026
In May 2026, the United States hit a major turning point: solar power produced more electricity than coal for the first time in history. ☀️
This shift marks a massive change in the national energy landscape. For decades, coal served as a primary backbone of power generation. Now, the rapid construction of solar farms has turned the tables. This decentralized setup creates new headaches, though. Unlike a central, guarded coal plant, solar parks are spread across vast distances and are much harder to protect from theft or vandalism. 🚧
This is a sharp reversal from just a few years ago, when coal provided a significantly larger portion of the grid's power compared to the then-developing solar sector. ⚡
Protecting these widespread assets is becoming a critical priority for the industry. You might notice more security patrols or camera systems if you happen to pass by these energy sites in the coming months.
