Kraken Launches L2 Solution "Ink" π
On December 18, Kraken developers officially launched the mainnet of their L2 solution, Ink, on the Ethereum blockchain. Initially, the release was planned for Q1 2025. π
"Ink was launched several months ahead of schedule due to significant interest from third-party developers, which accelerated infrastructure development and investment in testing," Kraken explained.
The launch partners include:
Curve β a decentralized exchange,
Frax β a stablecoin platform,
Gelato β an L2 infrastructure provider,
LayerZero β a cross-chain protocol.
"Ink will leverage Ethereum and L2 advancements to achieve a shared goal: making DeFi even more accessible while accelerating the migration of assets and activity to the blockchain," the developers stated. πβ¨
The Ink network is built on Optimismβs technology and will be compatible with all OP Stack-based networks.
Several Kraken competitors have already launched their own L2 solutions for DeFi apps based on OP Stack, including Base by Coinbase and Unichain by Uniswap.
π Note: On December 18, Deutsche Bank also announced plans to launch its L2 solution on Ethereum using the ZKsync stack.
