Mozilla will add a built-in VPN to Firefox 149, scheduled for release on March 24, 2026. The service, named Firefox VPN, will route traffic through proxy servers in multiple countries, hiding usersβ IP addresses. Firefox will offer 50 gigabytes of free traffic per month for the new VPN. During the initial rollout, users in the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will receive access. Don't be confused with Mozilla VPN, which is a different service.
It will also enable Split View by default, allowing users to view two tabs side by side within one window. Additional changes include a new mascot, Kit, visible in dialogs and notifications, Tab Notes for attaching notes to tabs, the renamed Smart Window chatbot, a session history section in developer tools, dark mode in the profiler, and testing of a redesigned settings interface in nightly builds in April.
