The "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP), a satirical movement started by student Abhijeet Dipke, gained over 20 million social media followers in six days, outpacing major political parties. Sparked by a controversial "cockroach" remark from CJI Surya Kant regarding unemployed youth, the parody became a viral sensation among Gen Z.
However, its explosive growth triggered severe backlash. After revealing his Dalit identity, Dipke faced casteist attacks and death threats, and the CJPβs X account was legally withheld in India. Ultimately, the phenomenon highlights a stark generational divide, demonstrating how Indian youth are using internet absurdity to protest political dismissal and reclaim their voice.

A new India has taken to the streets. And more are coming to take on the establishment. The older generation is worriedβand more so because Gen Alpha has caught on and is following the lead of Gen Z. Raised with a smartphone in one hand and a world of information in the other, Gen Z has little patience for what they perceive are obsolete rituals of deference to elders who donβt get them.
This generation celebrates solidarity and speaks its own visual language. Spiderman and Superman mingle with Pride activists dressed in bright colours at protest sites, turning dissent into something that is as much about community and expression as it is about politics.
