🤓Russian Grammar🤓

Adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns. All Russian adjectives must agree with nouns in number, gender, and case.

Nominative case of Adjectives + spelling rules 👇👇👇

The majority of Russian adjectives have a stem ending in a hard consonant. In other words, their last letter before the ending is a hard consonant (ноВый, беЛый). In the nominative case, such adjectives have the ending
-ый (новый) if they are masculine singular,
-ое (новое) if they are neuter singular,
-ая (новая) if they are feminine singular
-ые (новые) if they are plural

The adjectives with a stem ending in the soft "н" sound acquire the endings
-ий (синий) in the masculine singular
-ее (синее) neuter singular
-яя (синяя) feminine singular
-ие (синие) plural
These adjectives are called soft adjectives and always have a stress on the stem, as in сИний.

The adjectives with a stem ending in letters к, г, х, ж, ш, ч, щ have the masculine singular ending -ий (маленький - small), the feminine singular ending in -ая (маленькая), and the plural ending -ие (маленькие). In the neuter singular such adjectives end in -oe after г, к, х (маленькое), and end in -ee after ж, ш, ч, щ if stress is on the stem (свéжее молоко - fresh milk) otherwise it has the ending -oe (большóе окно - big window).

There is a small group of adjectives called stressed adjectives. They have the ending -ой instead of -ый or -ий in the nominative masculine singular. This ending is always stressed on the letter o as in молодóй (young), большóй (big), другóй (another).

Russian Personal & Possessive Pronouns - личные и притяжательные местоимения

Personal Pronouns

I - я
You (singular, informal) - ты
He - он
She - она
It - оно
We - мы
You (plural or formal) - вы
They - они

Possessive Pronouns

A possessive pronoun is a part of speech that attributes ownership to someone or something, i.e. моя книга - my book.

Russian possessive pronouns agree in gender, number and case with the nouns that they refer to.

There are 4 ways of saying the English «my» in Russian:
мой, моя, моё, мои.

Which one you should use? First of all, you should define the gender of the following noun.

- for example, you want to say: "This is my cat".
You know that the word «кот» is masculine, that’s why you should use the pronoun «мой»

- for example, you want to say: "This is my family".
You know that the word «семья» is feminine. That’s why you should choose «моя».

- for example, you want to say: "This is my place".
The word «место» is neutral. That’s why you should choose «моё».

- and for the sentence with plural, for example: "These are my children" you should use «мои». Это мои дети.

⚠️ REMEMBER that "его" (his), "её" (her), and "их" (their) are used regardless of the case, number, and gender of the noun they modify. These Russian pronouns are indeclinable and invariable.

📌For example:
Это его/ её/их книга (This is his/her/their book)
Это его/ её/их дом (This is his/her/their house)
Это его/ её/их место (This is his/her/their place)
Это его/ её/их дети (This is his/her/their children)
