🔹 Marvell (-8.0%) - is the second-worst-performing stock in the Nasdaq 100, behind semiconductor equipment supplier LRCX. MRVL is currently trading around 216.50 and will therefore open sharply below our TP and overall clearly in profit. We SHORTed MRVL’s recent outperformance. While there had already been several sharply lower openings before, they were never enough to trigger our TP. Returning dip buying pushed our position back out of profit. The sharply lower opening now will result in a very profitable closing. Congrats!

► It is a painful day for chip investors, particularly retail traders who bought the recent sideways move after investment banks / investment firms urged them to buy. We did the opposite, expected short-term headwinds, and benefited significantly from selling spikes last week - for example in INTC or DELL.

► There are significant headwinds from concerns that rapid AI development could be deliberately slowed down by major US AI system developers. This could create a ripple effect across the highly important AI chip and infrastructure stocks that have been a key driver of Wall Street’s strong performance over the past ~3 years.

► The question, however, is how long these headwinds will last and how much pressure financial markets and politics will put on Anthropic and/or OpenAI not to slow development? Alphabet, with Gemini, has not yet commented on the issue, while SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk said: “Dario is right” - Dario Amodei is the CEO of Anthropic. META & PLTR are also opening higher.

► Even though investment banks are still urging investors to buy chipmakers today, and while that is fundamentally the right call over the longer term, I see room for significantly further losses in chip stocks in the short term - even despite the currently very (!) impressive revenue / earnings growth.

► We are selling DELL. Although DELL is opening around 4.5% lower, the stock closed 12% higher on Friday and therefore still has room for a correction. Investment banks remain MEGA-bullish here - we are selling for now while retail investors entered (too) late again unfortunately. We are also going SHORT in META, which is opening almost 2% higher and near Friday’s highs. We are trading META against the market.

► Energy was among the strongest sectors today but turned negative, while we saw some dip buying in chip stocks. The reason is the expectation that Anthropic and OpenAI can hardly slow development in any meaningful way as long as others do not follow - including Chinese AI developers, which can realistically be ruled out. As expected, US President Donald Trump sharply criticized the Anthropic CEO and called the whole thing a “SICK conspiracy”, as well as “WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so." The reality is: Earnings and revenue growth are there - the AI growth story remains intact. At the same time, the risk of further or renewed profit-taking waves remains very real.

► We also saw a sharp decline in oil prices after Saudi Arabia said it would increase oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz after attacks forced the country to shut down the East-West Pipeline. The kingdom had already increased shipments through the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks and is now trying to raise volumes further. Unofficial shipments are significantly above the official figures.

► However, I do not see the market seeing any signs of a real improvement ahead. The Saudi pipeline, which can transport up to 7 million barrels per day, did in fact play a key role, and supply will definitely be negatively affected for now. In an already tight market, Saudi oil exports will decline in the short term.

► Saudi Arabia has faced increasing attacks from Iran-aligned militant groups in recent days. The successes of the Houthi militias mean they will continue trying to disrupt oil flows.

► We are buying XOM here and expect renewed spikes higher as well as higher openings, which should provide good closing opportunities at the start of upcoming sessions. Despite the decline, oil prices are still around 1% higher today and roughly 20% higher month-on-month.

► We saw the DAX close 0.6% lower during regular trading in Frankfurt before recovering in after-hours trading and even moving back into positive territory. The rebound was supported by temporarily lower oil prices as well as dip buying in the US, with some tech stocks - particularly software - trading clearly higher and additional dip buying in the weakest performers, mostly AI infrastructure stocks.

► Europe also benefited from a weaker EUR - but for the wrong reasons. The USD edged higher after oil prices continued to rise sharply at the start of the week and expectations increased that pressure on Fed Chair Warsh to raise interest rates will continue to build following last week’s signs of a renewed acceleration in inflation.

► We do not see enough reasons for optimism here and continue to see a mix of different headwinds. We also expect oil prices to remain elevated, as there are few reasons to be optimistic about an improvement in the supply situation.

► We already closed our Europe SHORT in the FTSE_100 today - fundamentally, the DAX is actually the better SHORT here.

When you think it really cannot get any better - it gets even better ⤴️ I actually only know that saying the other way around.

In the end, we managed to generate a very large profit with MRVL after all - despite our off-profit TP. Today’s opening of more than 8% lower allowed us to close the position significantly in profit.

This part of the overview also looks excellent - with a perfect performance on Thursday and Friday, including the in-profit closing of our S&P 500 📸 during early Asian trading.

We had expected oil prices to continue rising and put additional pressure on market sentiment - and that is exactly what happened. Risk sentiment then deteriorated even further after several major players in the AI sector called for a slowdown in development.

We are tightening the TPs ✅ on all of our index positions slightly as markets are currently trading mixed.

We made a great trade with the FTSE 100 📸 today. With DELL 📸, we executed one of our strongest NYSE Opening Trades ever. META also moved deep into profit very quickly before the stock subsequently rebounded.

► We are back and with our first trade, we are immediately putting our long - likely world-record-long - Gold / Silver winning streak to the test.

► A stronger USD and a more hawkish stance from central banks, including the recent rate hikes from the Fed, ECB, and BoJ, have weighed on gold prices. USD strength has already gone quite far - I also see an increased risk of possible intervention measures to support the JPY after last week’s BoJ rate hike failed to provide any tailwinds for the weak Yen.

► The biggest headwind, however, has been the sharp rise in oil prices, which further increased inflation concerns and fueled fears that central banks will have to extend their battle against rising inflation with tighter monetary policy.

► However, we are now seeing oil prices decline for a fourth consecutive session. Brent initially rebounded above $102 today before reversing sharply and is now down more than 2% - WTI is even down more than 2.5%. Today’s main catalyst is a report that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US first eased military pressure. Trump has also expressed openness to meeting the Iranian president around the UN General Assembly. These are cautious signs of a return to diplomacy.

► Gold is finding buyers near the key 4300 level. We are seeing improved risk sentiment, although market breadth within equities remains very mixed.

For fiscal 2027, revenue and net income are expected to rise by 90% and 99%, respectively. However, there are concerns about NVDA’s profitability due to rising costs for key components such as memory chips - which I do not share. The latest data from the earnings report showed no such margin squeeze, as demand remains nearly unlimited and NVDA can sell at higher prices.

► NVDA is opening around 0.5% lower near 225.70. I already bought during pre-market (at 🔼 225.63). In the short term, there is still some additional correction potential following yesterday’s Muse-driven boost for AI stocks, but NVDA is very attractive at the current valuation and is also benefiting from Bernstein reiterating its “Outperform” rating.

► We saw exactly the dynamic we expected - including the rebound in the tech sector, which pushed the Nasdaq 100 higher and took our position into the TP. Gains in NVDA, but also in other chip stocks, which not only recovered from their pre-market losses but then moved into positive territory, helped the Nasdaq outperform. It is currently around 0.4% higher and trading near our already triggered TP ✅📸. NVDA also hit our TP very quickly after the opening.

► We are seeing a clear underperformance in the Dow Jones, with a rotation out of defensive stocks and financials and into tech - particularly chip stocks.

► The few tech stocks in the Dow Jones are actually trading mostly lower - including MSFT, AMZN, CRM, and CSCO. CAT, which is closely tied to the AI industry, is also trading lower.

► Sharp losses in financial stocks are weighing heavily, including JPM, which is down nearly 4%. Expectations are high that net interest income growth has reached a plateau, while deposit costs have also risen and the yield curve has shifted. Broader concerns about credit quality - including in credit cards / consumer lending - are adding further pressure.

► Trump’s speech at the United Nations in New York did not help increase hopes for a return to diplomacy between the US and Iran - certainly not before the midterms in November. Trump once again repeated his claim that a deal between the US and Iran would be reached quickly after the elections.

► Both Gold and our Dow Jones hit their TPs 📸. We closed the Dow near the highs after the NYSE opening and can get back in here again. The Dow triggered our TP at 52022.40 and then fell by more than 100 points again.

► Overall, we saw the Dow reduce its losses, but it is still currently trading around 0.35% lower for the day. Financial stocks in particular continue to weigh on the Dow. We are also still seeing underperformance in defensive stocks and in the few tech stocks within the Dow - now including GOOGL, which is down more than 1%.

► We can carry a LONG position into tomorrow’s session. The Dow has significant upside potential from here and should benefit if the gains that have so far been heavily concentrated in AI stocks broaden into other sectors later this week.
