We closed SKHY, one of our older open positions right at opening - unfortunately too early, as the stock surged around 8% (!) following earnings.

We see further short-term upside, with an even stronger longer-term outlook. Our overall 🔽 success rate edged lower as a 5/6 session (SA/SR = 83.3%) rolled out of our five-week calculation and was replaced by last Tuesday's 3/5 session (SA/SR = 60%).

Our open positions benefited significantly from today's moves. GOOG/L also closed 1.2% higher and extended its gains in after-hours trading. Gold and silver continued their rebound - we are keeping our current silver TP.

We can raise the TP on our remaining Nasdaq 100 position, as we expect further gains in tomorrow's session, particularly following the very strong earnings report and guidance from Korean chip giant SKHY.

The sharp rebound we expected this week continued on Tuesday and has now received another boost after Korean memory giant SKHY crushed expectations. The stock rebounded strongly following heavy overselling in previous sessions - another reminder of how wrong the market can be and how far prices can diverge from fundamentals.

Unfortunately, we closed our small SKHY 📸 position "prematurely" after a positive start to today's session (real opening was at 146.44) having held it for three long weeks. We were caught in the panic selling that hit Korean chipmakers particularly hard. Our re-entries are well in profit overall, and we could have traded the mispricing more aggressively. In hindsight, our position management was not ideal: we should have exited earlier or held now even longer, given the very small position size. SKHY still has substantial rebound potential, but it is not more attractive than MU over the medium-term.

Overall, however, it was a great session for our portfolio, with another excellent NYSE opening trade in AAPL 📸 and very strong intraday trading decisions on Tuesday. We also made a strong oil (WTI 📸) trade although we were a bit too cautious with our TP. We also closed BTC 📸 (I updated my position a bit - although we could have also let the position overall ran a bit higher here.

► Yesterday’s price action once again showed how quickly the geopolitical risk premium in oil can unwind, as Iran and other regional powers discussed a path toward peace in the region, bringing some optimism - although I remain skeptical, and ultimately it depends entirely on the US.

► Oil prices are now up around 1.5% today, after an attack on a refinery in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest crude exporter, renewed concerns about supply risks from the conflicts in the Middle East. The Iran-backed Houthis claimed they had hit Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery with a missile, intensifying their attacks on the world’s second-largest crude producer. Additionally, the Houthis called on people to evacuate Aden’s international airport immediately. Aden is the seat of Yemen’s internationally recognized, Saudi-backed government. Amid concerns about further escalation, the market is therefore increasing the risk premium again.

We are tightening our TP and looking for an exit, as the market will be somewhat more cautious ahead of today’s Fed rate decision, with waves of profit-taking likely. After the bell, tech giants GOOGL and MSFT report - likely with very strong cloud revenue and growth.

🔹 Dow Jones (+0.1%) - is now opening slightly higher, but initially saw some overnight losses from sector rotation as SKHY’s outstanding earnings report drew more capital back into the AI trade. Additional headwinds came from growing concerns about an escalation in the Middle East following further attacks on Saudi oil facilities. We expect somewhat more interest in defensive stocks later today and ahead of the Fed rate decision and key earnings reports. We prefer to work with a tighter TP and potentially look for better new entries.

🔹 Alphabet (+1.1%) - opens strongly and rises well above yesterday’s resistance. In premarket trading, we saw GOOGL climb to 326.00. We are raising our TP back into profitable territory for now. We expect very strong cloud revenue growth. The key will be how much Alphabet has increased its AI infrastructure spending. GOOGL is benefiting from OpenAI’s plans to purchase Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).

🔹 Nvidia (+0.9%) - remains in recovery mode, attempting to move back above 220. SKHY’s outstanding earnings are boosting the chip sector, particularly memory stocks. We remain LONG here and are keeping our current TP (✅ @: 228.53) unchanged for now. Yorkville Ives expects NVDA to outperform and gives it a $300 price target.

🔹 Intel (+1.3%) - continues its very strong performance of the past few days and could trigger our TP at the open. If not, we can widen it to ✅ @: 96.39.

► We see chip stocks extending their recent gains. MU in particular is opening significantly higher, while SKHY is up more than 8% in US premarket trading. MU has further upside potential despite already opening around 3.6% higher - it is currently trading around 960 - 963 in premarket. However, MU was not sold off as heavily as SKHY in October, so it is unlikely to match gains of around 8% or more today. We are looking to enter MU right at the open. The stock is opening around 963.

► Our second MU position hit our very well-placed TP ✅📸. MU then failed to revisit the highs reached shortly after the NYSE open and fell again.

► However, we see rising support with higher lows.

► More importantly, SKHY not only held all its gains but also reached higher highs and is now up around 12% - unfortunately, another reminder of yesterday’s exit at our TP. We missed out on huge gains here.

► We can remain LONG in MU. Overall, trading remains cautious, with oil prices still weighing and the Fed’s rate decision coming later today. The BoC raised rates by 25 basis points to 2.5%, as expected. Rates therefore remain well below the current Fed policy rate of 4%.

► The rally in the memory chip giants has stronger fundamental support than many previous AI-sector rebounds. SK Hynix’s capacity commitments and, above all, its record earnings, which far exceeded already high expectations, provide very concrete evidence of extremely strong demand - rather than speculative enthusiasm.

► After a week of huge gains in the chip sector, we are seeing some profit-taking. Strong earnings / forecasts from key companies and Anthropic’s upcoming IPO boosted related stocks such as AMZN, GOOGL, NVDA, and particularly AVGO. Defensive stocks are now benefiting, and the Dow is also outperforming the Nasdaq 100.

► AAPL is still trading around 0.5% lower today, underperforming the Nasdaq 100 / Wall Street.

► As is often the case, AAPL failed to benefit from unveiling several product updates. These include the announcement of its first touchscreen laptop, which Apple calls the “MacBook Pro with ProLED XDR Display.” Apple also introduced new iMac and MacBook Pro models with M6 chips. On Monday, Apple unveiled an iPad Mini starting at $699 - $100 more than its predecessor. Investors see upside from higher pricing, following MacBook price increases back in June and, of course, higher iPhone prices with the new generation.

► Investment banks remain broadly bullish. AAPL received an “Outperform” rating from Evercore ISI today. We expect AAPL to benefit as gains broaden beyond AI stocks and overall sentiment becomes more cautious. AAPL is unlikely to be particularly volatile. We can build a LONG position below 345.00. A stronger USD following the Fed’s rate decision could weigh somewhat on AAPL.

► The Fed votes 10 to 2 to keep its policy rate unchanged in the 3.75%-4% range (=4%). We see a mixed reaction. Overall, however, the market is reacting to the two dissents in favor of a rate hike, which give this pause a somewhat more restrictive (= hawkish) tone. Lisa Cook joined Hammack.

► The reaction is muted but reflects the hawkish signals. We see higher yields and a stronger USD following an initial slight decline. The rise in yields is now showing signs of cooling.

► The statement is short, consistent with Fed Chair Warsh’s new approach. It acknowledges elevated inflation and inflation risks while expressing optimism about the US economy.

► USD/JPY is now trading at session highs (= a seven-day high). We can open a SHORT position here. Given high US inflation, the decision is not really more hawkish than could have been expected. Warsh is also unlikely to provide a particularly detailed outlook at the press conference - consistent with how he has handled his role so far.

► We see a slight risk-off move, indicating that the market is treating this as a hawkish signal for now.

We are now seeing the reaction we expected and an overall risk-on move following statements from Fed Chair Warsh that revealed little. We can widen the TP on our Nasdaq 100 position again. USD/JPY has already hit our TP ✅📸 (I closed marginally lower; we found the perfect entry range against the market).

Gold, silver, and other USD-denominated assets are also rebounding for now - though that could still change heading into the US close.

The Fed under Warsh is clearly signaling that it has time to make a decision and that ongoing geopolitical tensions are the main driver of inflationary pressures. If those tensions ease, inflation would also decline. The Fed’s generally more “silent” approach under Warsh is also providing no support for the USD.

► USD/JPY is hovering slightly below the key level of 158.000. In particular, Warsh’s statement that there is broad agreement within the FOMC that the monetary medicine is starting to work is being interpreted as a clear signal that he wants to maintain a wait-and-see approach. This is especially true given his remark that the coming period will be “information-rich.”

► Warsh is clearly reluctant to send a more hawkish signal to the market.

► Warsh also added that he does not see the US economy running “too hot” and would prefer not to push people into unemployment - a signal that he is concerned higher rates could raise the unemployment rate, but in any case another of the new Fed chair’s many vague statements. He also said that economic growth, while strong, is not causing additional inflation. None of these statements are hawkish.

► Warsh is more cautious about providing guidance or making statements that could later be used against him. The market would generally prefer a Fed chair who shares more insight into the thinking within the FOMC.

► We expect a further modest weakening of the USD and can enter SHORT again slightly below the key level of 158.00.

► The Nasdaq 100 hit our widened TP ✅ following a jump at the NYSE close. However, mixed earnings reports pushed the Nasdaq 100 significantly lower again in after-hours trading. Concerns about extremely high AI infrastructure spending are weighing on GOOGL, its earnings, and free cash flow. Palo Alto also fell sharply following a preliminary earnings outlook. MSFT, meanwhile, surged after beating both earnings and revenue expectations. NVDA and CRWD are also weighing on the Nasdaq. We expect GOOGL to recover some of its after-hours losses.

► The broader decline in tech stocks after the close gives us an opportunity to re-enter the Nasdaq 100 - almost 400 points below our triggered TP. We are also seeing some profit-taking in other risk-sensitive assets, including cryptocurrencies, following initial gains.

► Silver also hit our TP, allowing us to close the position at an overall profit.

► We can slightly widen the TP on our gold position. Our USD/JPY position moved well into profit in after-hours trading.

Good Morning!

Yesterday was a very busy session for markets and for us, with numerous trading decisions and position closures, including our Nasdaq 100 & INTC positions, which we had held for some time. Most of you have likely closed much earlier - please make sure that you not have an exposure that is too large for your account balance. Never lose more than 3% absolute max 5% of your balance in a position (incl. potential re-entries!).

We also closed our silver position at an overall profit after the Fed left rates unchanged again and Warsh avoided to send a particularly hawkish message.

We have raised the TP on our gold positions, but tighten a bit 👉 TP ✅ @: 4093.53. 🔄

Overall, it was a good session, with one major exception: GOOGL fell around 9% in after-hours trading following an EPS miss, concerns over Alphabet's massive AI investments and a negative free cash flow of $9.07 billion in Q3. GOOGL is now very attractive over the long term, and these investments will likely help establish Google as a leading AI company for years to come. However, concerns about the scale of AI spending will persist for a while and result in a weak performance in upcoming sessions / weeks. We expect a bit of a recovery but will work with a tight TP / close soon.

The overview looks somewhat weaker in the screenshot than the session actually was, as we we reduced our exposure very significantly today. Overall, it was actually a very good session. Our whole week has been exceptional so far, with many strong trading decisions yesterday and numerous good exits, including three MU 📸 LONGs that benefited particularly from SKHY's outstanding earnings report. I kept a INTC LONG and still see upside in early November.

Our tight WTI SL 📸 was triggered. However, in a market characterized by sharp swings, I prefer a lower success rate to accumulating excessive exposure, as we did earlier in October. Being “right” on fundamentals helps little when sentiment and sector rotation dominate price action.

We also extended our FX winning streak to 14 consecutive trades, with two successful USD/JPY SHORTs 📸.

Ideally, we would have closed our Nasdaq 100 position much earlier, but we ultimately secured a solid exit just before the index fell again. We bought that sharp dip and are now tightening our TP ✅ slightly following the mixed earnings reports.

► We closed silver yesterday at 54.50 - near the high at the NYSE close, following the Fed’s rate decision and press conference and ahead of big tech earnings, which then initially reversed sentiment.

► Following the Fed’s rate decision and Warsh’s remarks, investors are no wiser than before. He again provided little insight into what the Fed is likely to do in the coming weeks / months. Instead, he said there was more time to monitor economic data and that the current “medicine” was showing signs of working.

► The still outdated PCE data, although already affected by the sharp rise in oil prices, showed no inflation warning signs.

► Quarter-over-quarter GDP growth even exceeded expectations.

► The combination of a still-uncertain Fed outlook, with investors continuing to expect further rate hikes in the coming months, and the reversal following yesterday’s mixed earnings, which halted the strong tech rally for now, sparked some concerns about economic growth. Silver, as an industrial metal, is particularly affected.

► Sentiment toward silver is very bearish, leading to further selling in a cautious market environment.

► Nevertheless, we are buying this sharp dip with a small position, re-entering more than $2 per ounce below our triggered TP - almost 4% lower. The dip in BTC is also interesting.

► We see no warning signs from yields and are buying silver’s significant underperformance here. Further short-term selling is certainly possible, so we see this as building a position.
