The US House of Representatives passed a bill that would bar universities participating in boycotts of Israel from receiving certain federal funds. The measure, which also requires certifications on student access to programmes in Israel, passed by 237 votes to 169, and now moves to the Senate. For it to become law, the Senate would need to pass it, and the president would then need to sign it into law.

Activists and organisations have warned the pace of forced displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem is accelerating, with home demolitions, construction restrictions, illegal settlement expansion, land confiscation, and residency policies all affecting Palestinians living in occupied East Jerusalem. According to a UN OCHA Humanitarian Situation Report, since the beginning of 2026, nearly 700 Palestinians have been displaced in occupied East Jerusalem. The report also points to the advancement or approval by Israeli authorities of 36,973 housing units in settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.

“The vast amounts of money involved in US elections are truly horrific given the extreme level of need for money around the world”

Annelle Sheline, a former State Department official who resigned in protest of the Biden administration’s policy on Gaza, tells TRT World that Democrats should urgently call for campaign finance reform.

With an estimated $12 billion spent, the 2026 midterms have been described as the most expensive elections in US history.

“That being said, this massive amount of money we saw coming in from the Israel lobby, from Elon Musk, from other powerful special interest groups was largely unsuccessful,” Sheline added.

London police arrested at least 25 pro-Palestinian demonstrators on November 4 for supporting Palestine Action, a group banned by the British government as a terrorist organisation in 2025. The arrests occurred as the UK’s Supreme Court prepared to hear a challenge from Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori, who is seeking to overturn the organisation’s terrorism designation.

Amnesty International says more than 3,500 people have been arrested in the UK for alleged support of the group since the ban, many simply for holding placards.

Turkish parliament has ratified the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, a defence pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

Under the agreement, approved by the Turkish lawmakers early on Friday, an attack on one party constitutes an attack on all. The agreement was approved by 279 votes to 119 in the 600-seat parliament.

The agreement was signed in the Saudi holy city of Mecca by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Erdogan and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on August 7, pledging to strengthen collective security, deepen defence cooperation and promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.

According to the agreement, the grouping’s secretariat will be based in Saudi Arabia, and retired Pakistani General Nauman Mahmood has been selected as its first secretary-general. The pact binds the parties for 10 years, after which they would need to provide a three-month notice to leave.

Flavio Bolsonaro has made his first public appearance since travelling to the US on November 5 following his defeat to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brazil’s presidential election.

The 45-year-old appeared as a speaker at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held at US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to US officials, a White House official arranged the private jet that flew Bolsonaro to Miami, while Trump personally authorised his entry into the country on October 27, just two days after his election loss.

Bolsonaro is facing several investigations in Brazil, including over alleged money laundering and corruption. His departure came after Brazilian authorities ordered him to surrender his passport.
