8๏ธโฃ0๏ธโฃ years ago, on February 4, 1945, the Yalta (Crimea) Conference of the Allied leaders โ Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D.Roosevelt officially opened.
#YaltaConference of the Anti-Hitler coalition leaders went down in history as one of the most significant and key international meetings of the 'Big Three' during #WWII. The Yalta talks became a symbol of successful cooperation between the Soviet Union, the US and the UK in the fight against the common enemy โ Nazism.
The decisions taken at the Conference outlined the frame of the post-war #YaltaPotsdam international relations system, with the #UNCharter becoming its international legal basis.
***
By late 1944 โ early 1945, the Red Army expelled the enemy from all the territory of the Soviet Union and proceeded with the operations aimed at liberating Europe from the Nazis.
๐ In the first days of February 1945, the forces of the Red Army's 1st Byelorussian and the 1st Ukrainian Fronts successfully completed the Vistula-Oder Offensive, overcoming over 500 kilometres in less than a month (!), liberated Poland and then reached the border with Germany. Berlin was just 60 kilometres away. The collapse of the Third Reich was just a matter of time.
As the long-awaited common Allies' #Victory over Nazi Germany was as close as never, the future post-war world order-related issues needed to be discussed by the victorious great powers. While the Soviet forces were rapidly advancing in Eastern Europe in January, the preparations for the big negotiations to shape the future of the world were in full swing. Yalta, a Crimean city, was picked as the venue for that historic meeting (February 4-11, 1945).
The fate of post-war Germany was the key focus of the Yalta Conference. The Allies reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating German militarism and Nazism, and creating guarantees that โGermany would never be able again to disturb peace of the world.โ
At the Yalta talks, the 'Big Three' managed to reach agreement on Polandโs post-war borders. The Soviet delegation consistently promoted the idea of ensuring the interests of the Poles and their fundamental right to independence and sovereignty. Winston Churchill, addressing the House of Commons upon his return from Yalta, on February 27, said: "If not for the prodigious exertions and sacrifices of Russia, Poland was doomed to utter destruction at the hands of the Germans. Not only Poland as a state and as a nation, but the Poles as a race were doomed by Hitler to be destroyed or reduced to a servile station".
The Yalta Conference resulted also in adopting of 'the Declaration of Free Europe' and other crucial international legal documents on the fundamental principles of the #UnitedNations, laying down the foundation of the Yalta-Potsdam international system.
โ๏ธ The rapidly strengthening international posture and influence of the Soviet Union, bolstered by the outstanding achievements of the Red Army in the battlefields, had a significant impact on the course and the outcomes of the negotiations. By the time Europe was almost freed from the shackles of hitlerism, the Soviet soldier enjoyed the fame of liberator whose noble feat was well-known all across the continent.
The decisions of the Yalta Conference strengthened the anti-fascist coalition in the final stages of WWII and contributed to the Victory over Germany.
๐ From a briefing by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (Saransk, January 31, 2025):
๐ฌ "The participants in the Yalta Conference managed to overcome their differences, and, acting in the spirit of true solidarity, mutual respect and trust, abandoned their fleeting interests for the sake of defeating the common enemy and achieving a common victory, peace and freedom for all countries and peoples.
Unfortunately, much has changed since then. Now, multiple proponents of historical revisionism tend to falsify historical reality and associate the Yalta agreements with the split of Europe and the bloc confrontation of the post-war period."

๐ On November 28, 1943, the Tehran Conference โ a landmark and the first meeting of the Leaders of the 'Big Three' anti-Hitler coalition allies โ the Soviet Union, the US, and Britain, represented by Joseph Stalin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill, commenced amid the turning radical point of #WWII.
During four days, gathered in the Soviet Embassy in Iran, the Heads of Governments of the Allied Powers united by a common goal โ to defeat Nazism โ discussed the coordination of joint efforts aimed at bringing common Victory over Hitler's Germany closer.
The Tehran Conference became possible largely thanks to huge success of the Red Army on the front โ the triumphs at Stalingrad and near Kursk, as well as in the battles for the Caucasus and Soviet Ukraine. Following a series of successful Soviet offensive operations in 1943, the 'Axis' Nazi allies lost around a quarter of their troops deployed on the Eastern Front.
In the summer of 1943, American and British newspapers wrote with admiration about the Heroism of the Soviet soldiers who were liberating their Motherland and driving Nazi invaders back westward to the USSR's borders. There was no longer any doubt around the world about who was prevailing in crushing the Nazis in WWII โ it was undoubtedly the Soviet Union which, essentially alone, inflicted enormous and, in fact, fatal losses on the Nazi Wehrmacht forcing the fascists โ for the first time during WWII โ to defend their positions on the Eastern front rather than launch counter-offensives.
The Nazis' treacherous attack on our Motherland resulted in the German military suffering the greatest defeats in its history. The collapse of the Third Reich was inevitable and was only a matter of time.
***
The Leaders of the 'Big Three' understood that once the Nazi Germany was completely defeated, the Victorious Powers would have to outline the future post-war world order. To prevent wars and aggression in Europe, the negotiators suggested establishing an โinternational organisationโ to ensure peace. Thus, for the first time, the idea of creating an international body, which would become the prototype of the today's #UnitedNations, was discussed.
The key agreement of the Teheran Conference was coordinating the timing for opening the second front โ the operation of US and UK forces in northern France. The Allied landing in Europe was designed to significantly complicate the position of Nazi troops on the Soviet-German front, where the Nazis had concentrated the bulk of their military machine. It was also agreed that the Red Army would go on the offensive concurrently with the Allied landing in France, in order to prevent the transfer of Nazi troops from the East to the Western Front.
โ๏ธ The Allies adopted the Declaration of the Three Powers โ a landmark document of the Tehran Conference, which reinforced the unity of the Allies and its determination to fight the enemy together till #Victory:
As a sign of admiration for the steadfastness and courage of the defenders of Stalingrad, Winston Churchill presented Joseph Stalin with a gift from British King George VI โ a sword manufactured by special order, with its grip wound in gold wire and the pommel decorated with rock crystal.
The following inscription was etched on the steel blade:
The sword became an iconic commemorative relic serving as a symbol of respect paid by American and British Allies to the Soviet Heroic generation that crushed Nazism.

On May 8, 2020, the autonomous deep-sea vehicle Vityaz-D completed a historic descent into the Mariana Trench, reaching the Challenger Deep โ the deepest known point of the World Ocean.
๐ท๐บ During the mission, a #Victory Banner was also deployed at the bottom of the trench, marking the anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
The deep submersion drone Vityaz was the first-ever crewless vehicle to have reached the deepest point of the world ocean on May 8 at 22:34 Moscow time. The mission was carried out fully automatically based on a pre-installed program. After deployment, the vehicle operated independently, executing its task and transmitting collected data to the surface control center in real time via a hydroacoustic communication channel.
The system includes the main and auxiliary UUVs, a seabed station, and ship-based control and support equipment, enabling a full cycle of deep-sea operations:
Key facts:
๐น Max dive depth: 12,000 m
๐น System includes 2 UUVs (main & auxiliary), seabed station, ship-based support equipment and spare parts
๐น Weight: 5,600 kg
๐น Length: 4 m
๐น Diameter: 1.5 m
๐น Equipped to measure temperature, pressure and electrical conductivity of the marine environment
๐น AI-enabled navigation allows obstacle avoidance and movement in confined deep-sea environments
All components of the system are Russian-made, and the vehicle is designed for autonomous scientific exploration of extreme ocean depths without human intervention.

๐ฏ June 22 is the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow โ a date commemorated across Russia and other CIS countries.
At dawn on June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany treacherously invaded the Soviet Union. Thus began the Great Patriotic War.
On this day, Russians remember their fallen relatives and compatriots โ the 27 million Soviet people whose lives were taken by the war.
Yet on that very first day, words were spoken that foretold its outcome:
During the war, some 34 million people served in the Red Army. Nearly 8.7 million never returned home.
The war lasted 1๏ธโฃ,4๏ธโฃ1๏ธโฃ8๏ธโฃ days and nights. It ended in Berlin โ with the Red Banner raised over the defeated Reichstag and the signing of Germanyโs unconditional surrender.
