Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sibal criticised restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities.

“I am tired of keeping on going to the Supreme Court. I am speaking for myself. I don't think there is any use of going there. I don't have much hope in the Supreme Court of India,” Sibal said.

He argued that the court had repeatedly been informed about alleged wrongful deletions and additions to electoral rolls but had not provided relief. Sibal pointed to Bengal's appellate tribunals, which have restored voters' names in 93% of appeals decided so far, as evidence of the concerns raised over the revision process.

The Supreme Court directed the authorities concerned to remove any boards or notices announcing the imposition of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in and around its premises, if they had not already been taken down. The bench said the move was necessary to ensure there was no apprehension about access to justice, including entry to and exit from the Supreme Court and other courts.
The Supreme Court directed that Metro and rail services in Delhi function normally unless restrictions become necessary to address a public order situation. It also ordered that free movement of people and traffic across the city be permitted, subject to traffic requirements, and directed authorities to review the need for barricades forthwith, keeping law and order and traffic conditions in mind. The bench further said internet services must remain undisturbed in accordance with the law.

The Supreme Court said that barricades across Delhi should be removed and said people must be allowed to move freely across the city, subject to public order considerations. The bench said it would accept the government's assurance that Metro services would be normalised and remain so unless a public order situation arose. It also directed that internet services be restored and said lawyers must not be obstructed from discharging their professional duties.

The notice dated October 13, accessed by Bar & Bench, has been issued by SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel.

It states that a complaint against Malik was considered by the SCBA Executive Committee, which found a prima facie case against him.

The notice follows a face-off on the Supreme Court lawns on Monday, a video of which went viral.

As per the notice, the President and Executive Committee members had gathered on the lawn at around 1:15 PM "to show solidarity with fellow advocates who were reportedly beaten during the protest on 10 October 2026."

"The President has been subjected to unparliamentary language and intimidation during media interviews. The incident has been widely circulated on social media and national news channels," the notice states.

"We will make it very clear. Neither we are going to agree for total ban, nor are we going to allow them to do it (fireworks) for 24 hours a day. Total ban will affect sentiments. And allowing them throughout the day will have huge impact on every other living being including the old, sick and children," the bench orally observed, as quoted by PTI.
