😳 Q1 2026 sets record: Miners sell more BTC than all last year

Public miners sold 32,000+ BTC in Q1 2026. This already exceeds total BTC sold across all of 2025.

Not long ago, the trend was the opposite. In 2024, miners added +17,593 BTC, pushing reserves above 100,000 BTC.

Economics compressed fast: hashprice is near $30/PH/s. Result: there are only 2 levers left — sell BTC or lower cost per BTC.

Right now, miners who stay profitable all do the same thing: cut production cost.

✅ Some achieve it through ultra-cheap power — below $0.02/kWh. At that level, even older hardware (~60 J/TH) stays profitable at ~$30/PH/s.

✅ Others optimize the fleet itself — pushing cost down to around $25/PH/s (~$55,000 per BTC).

📛 Everyone else compensates by selling — fast.

Even a +8–14% efficiency gain is enough to move from selling BTC → holding it

📌 How to check miner status and firmware in Vnish

We continue our System configuration series — this is the final part.

In this episode, we focus on the side panel — the section that gives you a real-time overview of your miner and firmware:

• Device and firmware information
• Installed version and updates
• Key system details at a glance

This is where you quickly check status, track versions, and stay aware of what’s running on your machines.

A small section — but critical for visibility and control. This concludes the System configuration series.

📊Miners are shutting down — here’s the data

Bitcoin mining difficulty fell −1.13% to 135.59T. At the same time, network hashrate dropped to ~1.063 ZH/s. This signals one thing: machines are going offline, and weaker operators are exiting.

Now look at who is under pressure. Even top miners are struggling with margins:
IREN +18.66%, BitFuFu +16.39%, HIVE +13.96% — still profitable.
But most of the sector is already negative: CleanSpark −31.72%, Bitfarms −41.05%, Bitdeer −53.01%, Core Scientific −71.78%, Riot −102.45%, MARA −145.50%.

This is not a small-miner problem. This is industry-wide stress

📉The economics explain everything: • Daily miner revenue: $28–35M • Production cost: >$88K per BTC • BTC price: ~$75K

At these levels, many miners are producing BTC at a loss — in recent weeks, losses reached up to ~$19K per coin.

💡The conclusion is clear: staying online now depends on lowering the cost per BTC — which comes down to higher efficiency from the same ASICs.

📭 Bitcoin mempool is nearly empty — What’s behind it?

Bitcoin’s mempool is thinning out, with fewer transactions waiting to be confirmed. Lower congestion means weaker competition for block space.

For miners, this is not just a network metric. It’s a shift in revenue structure. As fee pressure drops, a key component of mining income becomes less reliable.

🎥We’ve prepared a short video breaking down what’s behind this trend and how it reshapes mining economics.

• Why is transaction activity declining while Bitcoin demand remains strong?
• How does this affect miner revenue composition?
• What strategies matter when fee income fades?

🕹️Firmware differences don’t show up in specs — they show up in output

This comparison brings together the leading ASIC firmware solutions across the parameters that actually define mining performance: tuning depth, efficiency logic, and operational control.

What stands out is not just the range of features, but how differently each system approaches optimization. Some rely on presets. Others add layers of control.

💡Vnish operates at a different level — focusing on chip-level precision, stable load behavior, and scalable fleet management.

That difference compounds over time

🇺🇸The U.S. Navy now runs a Bitcoin node

It’s deployed within one of the largest operational commands in the world — spanning 36 countries, 14 time zones, and a massive share of global military activity.

The node is already being used in live testing: monitoring the network and exploring how the Bitcoin protocol can support secure, resilient systems.

The interest goes deeper than finance. Bitcoin is being examined as infrastructure — a peer-to-peer, zero-trust system where transactions are verified independently and data cannot be altered without consensus.

The direction is clear: Bitcoin is moving beyond markets and into critical systems. Attention is growing. So is competition.

🔥Bitcoin will keep going up — the main takeaway from Bitcoin Conference

That’s one of the clearest messages from Michael Saylor at Bitcoin Conference — a straightforward view that Bitcoin’s long-term direction remains up.

Against that backdrop, the mood on the ground is practical. Volatility hasn’t disappeared, and many miners have already adjusted — from shutting down less efficient hardware to exploring AI.

💡But those staying in mining are focused on one thing: efficiency

The Vnish team is here, speaking with operators who are looking for ways to lower cost per BTC and get more out of their current fleets. In this market, firmware is becoming a key lever for staying competitive.

📣 Tomorrow, our Head of Sales, Bradley Peak, will speak on exactly this topic:

🔥Missed Bradley Peak at Bitcoin Conference? Here’s the key part

If you didn’t make it to Bitcoin Conference — or couldn’t catch the session live — here’s one of the most important moments from Bradley Peak, our Global Head of Sales.

In this clip, Bradley breaks down two of the most common myths holding miners back from using custom firmware⚡️

Myth 1:
“Custom firmware reduces machine lifespan” — in reality, it doesn’t. Avoiding it often costs more in lost revenue than any perceived risk.

Myth 2:
“It’s not worth it because of warranty loss” — but with the right approach, higher hashrate and lower cost per BTC can more than offset that, especially when combined with aftermarket coverage.

The takeaway is simple: efficiency gains are no longer optional. With up to +24% hashrate improvement, firmware becomes one of the most direct ways to increase margins in today’s market.

🎥 Watch the clip — this is the part many miners overlook.

📉AI demand is driving power up — Mining profits down

The U.S. now has ~4,000 data centers. But the real story is energy: 442 GW already waiting for grid connection. AI is scaling fast — and it’s putting massive pressure on power infrastructure.

→ Electricity prices are rising because of this

U.S. rates are up 30% since 2010, and demand keeps growing (+1.2% in 2026, +3.3% in 2027). For miners, this means one thing: power costs keep going up.

→ Now the key point

At ~$30–35/PH/s/day, miners with S19-class hardware are already unprofitable at ~$0.05/kWh. To stay in profit, you need cheaper power — which is getting harder to find.

So what’s the move?

→ Lower your cost per BTC. Use less power per hash.

🚀 Bitcoin $100K? 3 signals the move isn’t over

Bitcoin is back at ~$78K after dropping to $60K in February. It hasn’t seen $100K since November. What pushes it higher next? Three clear signals:

⓵ US regulation
The US is moving toward clearer crypto rules, defining SEC vs CFTC roles. More assets classified as commodities = lower risk for institutional capital.

⓶ ETFs
April inflows reached ~$1.97B vs $1.37B in March. 2026 net inflows: ~$1.47B. Total since launch: $58B+. Demand is steady and institutional.

⓷ Price structure
+12% in April — strongest monthly gain in a year. Real inflows + tightening supply = upward pressure.

💡For miners, it means one thing — as competition scales, weaker operators get pushed out.

🔥Case Study: Turning Curtailments into +$1M/year with Vnish

Summer 2026 is coming. Heat → grid stress → more curtailments⚡️

Last season, a 20+ MW S19 fleet in a constrained grid zone came to Vnish:
~20 shutdowns/month, ~30 min to full power on stock firmware → consistent hashrate loss.

The bottleneck:
Shutdowns are not the issue.
Slow ramp-up is. Every extra minute below target power = lost BTC.

After Vnish

Recovery:
• 90% power: 8–10 min
• Full power: 10–12 min
→ ~20 min recovered per event

Per event:
• ~6–7 MWh recovered
• ~$500+ (~$40/PH/day)

Monthly (~20 events):
→ $10K+ from ramp speed alone

Why Vnish

Other custom firmware: ~5–6% gains
Vnish on S19: → up to +24% hashrate

• Faster recovery
• Higher steady output
• Stable fleet-wide power

Result:
• ~$120K/year (ramp)
• $1M+ total uplift
Same hardware. Same power.

☝️Curtailments are inevitable. Losses aren’t
