A scammer contacted the victim by phone, posing as a Coinbase employee. The scammer then sent the victim an email supposedly from the security service. The fraudster managed to convince the man that unauthorized transactions were being made from his account.
To resolve the issue, the victim was directed to a website controlled by the scammers. The criminals were able to withdraw crypto assets from the victim's wallet.
Scammers have posed as customer support before: similar attacks on users occurred last year. Recently, PeckShield analysts reported that in June, hackers stole $176.2 million from cryptocurrency platforms, with phishing being the favorite method of stealing crypto assets.
