Climate Change Performance Index

The Index measures renewable energy share, emissions and climate policies of 57 countries and the European Union.

India ranked 9th in the ranking provided. The ranking was to the “high category”, where the countries have ambitious 2030 targets. The report noted that India received medium rating in the renewable energy category. Also, the 2030 target set by India was rated high for its well-below 2-degree Celsius compatibility.

ఏపీ దిశ యాక్ట్‌

మహిళలపై అత్యాచారాలకు పాల్పడితే మరణశిక్ష విధించేలా ఏపీ క్రిమినల్‌ లా చట్టం (సవరణ) 2019కి కేబినెట్‌ అనుమతి తెలిపింది. ఏపీ దిశ యాక్ట్‌గా ఈ చట్టానికి నామకరణం చేశారు.

ఇందులో భాగంగా భారత శిక్షాస్మృతిలోని సెక్షన్ 354కు సవరణలు చేసి కొత్తగా 354-ఈ చేర్చింది. ఈ చట్టం ద్వారా అత్యాచారానికి పాల్పడిన ఆధారాలు ఉన్నప్పుడు 21 రోజుల్లో తీర్పు వెలువడనుంది.

వారం రోజుల్లోగా విచారణ పూర్తిచేసి ఫాస్ట్ ట్రాక్ కోర్టులను ఏర్పాటు చేసి రెండు వారాల్లోగా ట్రయల్ పూర్తి చేసి శిక్ష పడేలా చేయడం ఈ చట్టం ఉద్దేశం. రెడ్ హ్యాండెడ్‌గా ఆధారాలుంటే నిందితులకు మూడు వారాల్లోగా ఉరిశిక్ష విధించడానికి ఈ చట్టం దోహదం చేస్తుంది. ప్రస్తుతం ఉన్న నాలుగు నెలల విచారణ సమయాన్ని 21 రోజులకు కుదిస్తూ బిల్లు రూపొందింది. అత్యాచారం, సామూహిక అత్యాచారం, యాసిడ్‌ దాడులు, వేధింపులు, లైంగిక వేధింపులు తదితర నేరాలకు సత్వరమే విచారణ చేసేందుకు ప్రతి జిల్లాలోనూ ప్రత్యేక కోర్టును ఏర్పాటు చేయనుంది.

సోషల్‌ మీడియాలో మహిళలను కించపరిచేలా పోస్టింగ్‌లు పెడితే సెక్షన్‌ 354-ఈ కింద చర్యలు తీసుకునేలా ఈ బిల్లును ప్రతిపాదించారు.

మహిళలను కించపరుస్తూ మొదటిసారి పోస్టు చేస్తే రెండేళ్లు, రెండోసారికూడా అదేవిధంగా పోస్టులు చేస్తే నాలుగేళ్లు జైలుశిక్ష విధించనున్నారు. చిన్నారులను లైంగికంగా వేధిస్తే 14 ఏళ్ల వరకూ జైలుశిక్ష, అలాగే చిన్నారులపై లైంగిక వేధింపుల కేసుల్లో తీవ్రత ఉంటే జీవిత ఖైదు పడనుంది. ఇక​ పోక్సో చట్టం కింద ఇప్పటివరకూ ఉన్న కనీస శిక్షను అయిదేళ్లకు పెంచుతూ ఈ బిల్లులోని అంశాలకు ఏపీ కేబినెట్‌ ఆమోదం తెలిపింది.

Space debris

The earth is littered with plastics and waste material and the space too has about 21,000 pieces of at least 10 centimeters in size of debris, according to the US Defense Intelligence Agency. That is not all, there are some 3000 defunct satellites orbiting the Earth, posing grave danger to every space mission. Now, a Swiss startup, ClearSpace, has taken the task of clearing the debris. The startup was selected for the mission by the European Space Agency.

Jus sanguinis is a principle of nationality law by which citizenship is determined or acquired by the nationality or ethnicity of one or both parents.
-Children at birth may automatically be citizens of a particular state if either or both of their parents have citizenship of that state or national identities of ethnic, cultural, or other origins.

Citizenship Bill: Why is Assam protesting?

Except in Bengali speakers’ dominated Barak valley, people in other parts fear CAB will lead to lakhs of Hindus from Bangladesh swamping indigenous communities, burdening resources and threatening their language, culture and tradition. CAB has a 2014 cut-off date but protesters say Assam bore the brunt of immigrants from 1951 to 1971, while other states did not, and it is unfair to impose more on the state.

Nirmala Sitharaman ranked 34th in the world's most powerful women list : Forbes

Ms. Sitharaman, a newcomer on the Forbes most powerful women list, is ranked 34th. India’s first female finance minister, Ms. Sitharaman has also served as the country’s defence minister. She is the first female to hold the portfolio full time. Before her, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi briefly took additional charge of the ministry.
