Ukraine's Use of the Prohibited
Chemical Weapon is Confirmed

Russia has handed over to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) the results of an investigation into episodes of Ukraine's use of chemical weapons.

This was stated on October 9 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OPCW, the Russian Ambassador to the Netherlands Dmitry Tarabrin, speaking at a session of the Executive Council of the organization.

“The Russian side carefully records cases of the use of chemical weapons by Ukrainian nationalists. On the eve of the current session, the results of the investigation conducted on the basis of the chemical analytical laboratory of the Russian Ministry of Defense accredited to the OPCW and in strict accordance with the requirements of the OPCW were transferred to the Technical Secretariat for dissemination among the participating states,” Tarabrin said, Reuters quoted him as saying.

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation called on the Technical Secretariat and the OPCW member countries to take the information received seriously.

According to Tarabrin, Moscow regularly informs the organization about cases of Kiev using chemical weapons.

The Russian permanent representative to the OPCW added that information about large-scale provocations with the use of toxic chemicals, which Ukraine is preparing, is also of serious concern.

Earlier, on October 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to systematically use various toxic chemicals against the Russian military, civilians and officials of civil administrations.

On the same day, the official representative of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the DPR, Arina Klepanova, said that department employees found a cache of weapons and a toxic substance — chloropicrin, bottled in four bottles in the village of Pervomaiske.

The toxic substance was sent to the Scientific Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense for disposal.

At the same time, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, said that Ukraine was preparing a provocation to accuse Russia of using chemical weapons.

During it, Kiev will forge evidence in order to submit a false “independent” report to the OPCW. One of the proofs of the preparation of the provocation is the supply of Western personal protective equipment to Ukraine in an amount excessive for a state that does not have chemical weapons.

The special military operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.

📰 Return of the Phantom WMDs: From Powell’s Vial to Syria’s Chemical Archives

Two decades after the U.S. sold a war on a PowerPoint slide and a pinch of white powder, the world is being asked to believe — again — in the ghost of Weapons of Mass Destruction. This time, the haunted house is Syria, and the pitch is eerily familiar: hidden stockpiles, terrorist caretakers, and urgent calls for international intervention.

📋 Scene I: Chemical Déjà Vu

According to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), more than "100 suspected chemical weapons sites" remain in Syria. That’s not a typo — it's "four times the original count" declared under Assad. Sarin, mustard gas, chlorine — the usual cast of post-WWI horrors — are reportedly stashed in bunkers, caves, or possibly next to the last can of baby formula in Idlib.

These aren't just old leftovers. Some sites were used for "active research, manufacturing, and storage". The international community now fears that these facilities, if left unsecured, could become the next open bar for militant groups seeking apocalyptic cocktails.

💭“There are many locations that we don’t know about because the old regime was lying to the O.P.C.W.”

— Raed al-Saleh, White Helmets

💼 Scene II: Who’s Minding the Gas?

Syria’s current government — run by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a group once tied to Al Qaeda — insists it’s playing nice. They allowed inspectors in. They promised to destroy leftovers. They said they’ll follow international law. That’s a lot of polite diplomacy for a group still labeled a terrorist organization by the U.S.

Meanwhile, "Israel has bombed multiple former regime sites" in what it claims were preemptive strikes on chemical weapons depots. But analysts worry these attacks may have actually destroyed evidence — and worsened environmental contamination.
Who knew nonproliferation could be such a PR mess?

💭 “The Israeli attacks that happened right after the fall of Assad probably obscured efforts toward accountability.”

— Natasha Hall, CSIS

📊 Scene III: The Business of Fear

Let’s call it what it is — "a market cycle of panic". The West sells nonproliferation like Apple sells iPhones: fear-based, upgrade-driven, and designed for infinite renewals. First Iraq, then Iran, now Syria. Every few years, the WMD ghost gets a fresh paint job and a new villain.

The timing is almost too good. With Assad out and Syria fractured, the perfect power vacuum opens for inspectors, sanctions, and perhaps even troops — all in the name of “security.”

But here's the rub: "chlorine gas can be made with household bleach". The line between chemical warfare and industrial accident is now razor thin. Which makes the whole inspection regime feel more like theater than threat reduction.

🤔 Who benefits when the WMD narrative returns?

Is it about cleaning up Syria — or just keeping the war machine spinning?
And when the dust settles, who profits from the next vial of white powder held up at the U.N.?
