Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic churches. Make us more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen.

The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God is a very appropriate way to begin a new year. The Church puts this celebration on the first day of the New Year to emphasize the importance of Mary’s role in the life of Christ and of the Church. Mary is Mother of the Church because she is our spiritual mother — and we are the Church.
Mary, our blessed Mother, through your maternal intercession, grant us wisdom and humility to be instruments of peace in the world. Amen.

O God, who on this day revealed your Only Begotten Son to the nations by the guidance of a star, grant in your mercy, that we, who know you already by faith, may be brought to behold the beauty of your sublime glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

As we celebrate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, let us also remember the promises made at our baptism to reject Satan and believe in the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church.
